Nexstar Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 Good news, Saga has been crap for me on FIFA today and rasiak, well.....i won't go there. Probably means we'll be getting other strikers in.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 On Solent they confirmed that Stern's been offered a new contract. No news there on Saga or Rasiak though. If what Nick says is correct, well that just reaffirms my belief. We are NOW BEING RUN BY THE RIGHT PEOPLE...WAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! They really can see what we see. In SJ we've got someone who bangs in the goals, holds the ball up and has the necessary physical presence. Leroy Lita alongside him (or perhaps James Hayter?) -mark my words.... We're gonna walk this league.... (This season or next ;-) )
Wes Tender Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 Good. Poles apart, eh? Neither Rasiak nor Saga has set the world on fire recently, whereas John could be good in this division with a strong, young, fast striker alongside him.
Clifford Nelson Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 Great news. But how do you know this? Surely this means we will need another striker though? We need a lot of things, a striker is only one of them. Since Nick tend to offer well sourced info I take this as another sign of intent from AP. The man clearly knows what he is doing. I'd be surprised if there won't be another one or two players in before the weekend.

derry Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 The big problem moving them on is the salary we pay them. They certainly aren't going to be paid that in this country. They may well be looking to see out their contracts. Probably loans again would work or player exchanges.

derry Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 Pardew on SSN. Surgery needed, we've missed a lot of Bosman frees, Have to bring in some new players but it will be ongoing work in progress. No player has to leave if he wants to play for the club, but he thinks he has a couple who don't and they will be replaced if that's what they decide. He doesn't want any player who doesn't want to play for the club. No budget has been laid down but if he identifies players he wants, the club will look at it when he does. aintforever Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 Good move IMO. I definitely would have got rid of Saga, his lack of motivation is just taking the ****. Out of John and Rasiak I think if fit John would be better suited to League 1. Get someone with pace to work off him and we will be in business. I hope that doesn't mean he has to go Oilver Twist-style to ML with his begging bowl. Seriously, though, you would expect that Pards discussed budgets when he joined and he was assured that there would be funds; that must have been one of the attractions to offset the drop in division. Channon's Sideburns Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 I reckon the whole budget issue is just clever wordplay to be honest. TBH if you were Pards, would you want to let your competitors and the owners of the players that you may be after of how much you have to spend? Of course not. It's just running a football club professionally - see how alien it's become to us over the last 10 years????
S-Clarke Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 Stern would be great in this league tbh, we saw the benifit of a fit and confident stern a season ago - 20 goals in all comps. Getting rid of Saga + Rasiak was always going to happen. You cannot keep all 3....and players of that 'level' will not want to be playing 2nd' fiddle in league 1. Basically this opens the door for us to buy a fresh pacey/tricky striker to partner stern. A striker who actually plays on the shoulder of defenders..running onto sterns flicks. Pace in any league is essential IMO. The forward line up will be....Stern/Pacey Striker/Patterson/Lallana. I know Lita is possibly out of our league but someone like him would be absolutely perfect. I saw Tyson mentioned on another thread....good shout imo.
beatlesaint Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 AP would not have been attracted here without being told there will be money to spend as and when he wants it, within a sensible bracket of course. You arent going to go on TV/radio and say "Markus has told me he has 3 billion Euros in his back pocket and I can spend as much as I like" As someone has already mentioned its easy to forget how a club should be run properly after the Keystone Cops we have had for the last few years. Sensible is the key word. If we want a player i cannot see us paying over the odds for them. We'll offer what they're worth and that's it. Sounds as if AP is going about this steadily and carefully. I would also suspect that his fitness levels are not what they once were. As a family club, do we really want to tranish our image with this kind of appointment? It all sounds a little Perugia to me. Let's play it safe this year, with people we know can perform and save the theatrics for Notts County or Portsmouth!
Ewell Posted 22 July, 2009 Share Posted 22 July, 2009 Excellent display of footballing judgment from Alan Pardew - 10/10 . I have to fully agree with that. I think it is the best decision for all concerned. For me you can only play one of Rasiak or John and I would say Stern edges it for many reasons. Rasiak would score goals in this division but there is little doubt that he is not interested in playing for a league 1 club so it is time for him to move on.
