sandwichsaint Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Shame - he looked the real deal in the 5-0 v Hudds last year - guess he doesn't do it often enough? Onwards and upwards, a decent wage off the books and I'm sure NA will have a loan lined up or a pretty clear target for Jan?

buctootim Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Nah. Im not slating him, but hes been the boo boy of a section of fans for a while and clearly wanted out imo. Good move for him and club imo. Dunno what people will do now he and wooton have gone.

St Chalet Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 This is bad news IMHO. Puncheon gave us options and AOC is nowhere near ready to play week in week out. For what ever reason, it needs to be sorted out if he returns or a decent replacement sourced.
doubleonothing Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Trying to think of a positive spin on this. According to http://www.millwallfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10367~2222486,00.html They have had 4 injuries to attacking players. Maybe this is only a 1 month deal (though as many suspect I can see it being permanent in January) and if is only a 1 month emergency deal maybe he will come back firing on all cylinders following a month in the Championship. Worth a try wasn't it?

Saint_Jonny Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 I find it totally ridiculous that the club would let him go. But I wouldnt want to play in front of "supporters" that boo me either.
S-Clarke Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 A player that wanted out, very clear. Very sad, loved watching him last year - he hasn't been at his best this year, but watch him be very effective in the league above. Another one correctly forecast by leftback

hypochondriac Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 I personally think people should be showing leftback a hell of a lot more respect. Puncheon has been gash for ages though and to be honest if he did have a big argument maybe he is too much of a bad influence to have around. S-Clarke Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 tbf we still have time to sign a replacement ourselves on an emergency loan, just seems like quite a lot of pressure to be heaped on Chambo's shoulders all of a sudden. I hope he's not injured, as he was subbed at HT in the international tonight. If he is, we've just made one heck of a cock up.
Nexstar Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 Seems strange as we now don't have back up for AOC. Puncheon wants out, I think that's fairly obvious, but I just hope Adkins has someone lined up as a loan who could be a potential signing (like chaplow)
Matthew Le God Posted 16 November, 2010 Share Posted 16 November, 2010 I hope he's not injured, as he was subbed at HT in the international tonight. Or Saints requested that he only play one half. After all, no other player in the England under 18 squad is in his team's first XI.

AussieDog Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 I only saw him play live twice and on tv a few times and my opinion of him was that he didn't really add anything to the team as he was too unpredictable and erratic, and didn't work hard enough when we needed to defend (might be a harsh assessment, but I can only go on what I saw). Unless we get hit with a bunch of injuries ourself, then I don't think he will be missed.
Hedgehog Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Released by Plymouth, MK Dons, and apart from a few good games for us, in my opinion has been very poor. Flatters to decieve.
once_bitterne Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 To the uninitiated it could appear we are trying to cut costs as much as is possible. I think our squad is now down to what Harry would call the bare bones. On another note, another player off on loan to a club in the league above us. Liquidshokk Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Adkins has to have someone lined up to replace him surely?! As much as I've never really liked punch I know full well that we will miss him and need someone there as an alternative to the Ox. Loan announcement to come tomorrow??? boxosponge Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 I hardly think we could get in an "emergency" loan having ourselves just loaned out JP. The emergency would be covered by us recalling him. No, this is the squad we have until January

The emergency would be covered by us recalling him. No, this is the squad we have until January All loans between 1st September and the November loan deadline are classed as "emergency loans". Chaplow, Bignall, Puncheon, Pulis, Saville, Wotton etc etc are all emergency loans.

Matthew Le God Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 None of us know what Saints are planning, for all we know they may have replacement(s) lined up already, may be using a change of system etc etc so to comment on this is a little premature. Puncheon hasn't been anywhere near as effective as Chamberlain, he is on a large wage and would not be happy sitting on the bench. He hasn't played much part in a Saints team for the last 4 games. Even without Puncheon - Lallana, Holmes, Guly Do Prado, Dickson, Chamberlain and even some of the development and under 18 team wingers should be adequate until January and if not, the emergency loan window is still open! dubai_phil Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 You gotta love opinions, they can be so polarised. Half the forum wanted Puncheon out, he's gone and half are slitting their wrists at the news. Chill, we have cover, Lallana can play on the right as well as the left which leaves Richardson & Holmes as cover on the left for a few weeks. brmbrm Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Well its possible he's off for a month so he will get lots of games in a new environment and come back refreshed. Best I can do I'm afraid.
NickG Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 very good player, slated because he was the one who would try to beat the last defender or open defence with a cleaver ball through - which inevitably doesn't always work. Excellent ball control. Admitedly form not great but ridiculously poor support from "fans"
georgeweahscousin Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Like I said in the other thread "meh". Good player, but only ever shows it in glimpses. When we signed him, both Plymouth and MK Dons fans said the same thing "Good player. Poor attitude."
Professor Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Maybe the replacement is lined up, but Alex does create a problem in how you bring in someone to act as bit part. AOC will be first choice, but unlikley to play 90 mins, so there if there is no space for a real first choice wide MF. If that means just another squad player, thats unlikely to be any improvement on Punch. Have to wait and see, but risk is the side will be weaker not stronger. Badger Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 If Puncheon has been causing trouble with his attitude towards Adkins, then he is not needed at the club. We need players who play for the shirt. I doubt Puncheon ever did- and thus he is not needed. No point having him if he doesn't care about us. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Panic ye not Saints fans ! I'm pretty sure the team will be able to continue somehow without the dubious talents of Jason Puncheon. Indeed, if this means we get to see more of young Alex Chamberlain it might even be a blessing in disguise.
trousers Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Lefback seems to spot on with his posts - now with what he revealed about Lambert I am concerned His level of accuracy suggests he's getting his information directly from the 'inner circle' at the club. Worst case is that there is a disgruntled player at the club leaking this information. If it's not a player (or coaching/medical staff) who else can it be? It must be someone who hears team news directly from Nigel Adkins, surely? Who else does Adkins reveal team news to in advance other than this close knit group of people? niceandfriendly Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 We do have cover, so it's not the end of the world. But it is pretty **** news, he's a good player and when he performs, very often the team seems to respond. If he's off form (which, admitedly, he has been a fair few times this season) then the team can struggle.

Smirking_Saint Posted 17 November, 2010 Share Posted 17 November, 2010 Terrible, absolutely terrible. I am pretty f*cked off this week, i just can't see AOC turning in the same performances week after week if he starts, he looks much more effective coming on from the bench for me. (baring the other night when he scored twice admitidly). I really don't get how so many people think Puncheon was crap, he gives so much balance to the team, works hard, tracks back, puts in a good tackle and has outstanding ball control. He often to me looks the only one that can make things happen, he certainly did when Lallana was out of the team. Unfortunately his runs and passes were not being picked up by his team mates and this made him look bad, but things don't happen unless you try !! If it is an internal matter however and there has been a bust up then i can accept that it is best if he is away, if not, and he is off i certainly hope we have a replacement lined up.
