Vergard Forren; do the club need to explain to the fans

Not really but it's a bit odd. At the time of the announcement I was sure our CB pairing was Fonte and Forren with Yoshida on the bench.

I'm glad Jos has found a bit of form and consistency though - he is a top bloke - very eloquent and humble with lot of time for everyone - a model footballer.

I read somewhere about 6 weeks ago that Forren said he was so unfit when he joined that he had practically given up on playing this season,he was aiming for a decent pre-seaon and breaking into the team next season

Tried to find the article but I can't remember where I saw it

Can't see that this is actually true, if it is it says a lot about a professional footballer who does not try to stay fit during the off season (Norwegian football finishes in November, new season starts in March or something). Considering how fit our squad is he doesn't really seem to fit in with our ethos.

why we invested so much in a player who is a Norweigan International and does not even get on the bench !!

No, no the club do not need to explain this to the fans.

They wouldn't need to do this even if Forren hadn't just been quoted as saying he's not getting a game this season.

Oh, and I'm still waiting on a letter from Pardew about what on earth he thinks he's doing putting 3 new players into the back line in one match, with Fonte, Seaborne and Otsemobor at Millwall in 2010, tch.

I prefer Jose to Jos and I demand an explanation from the club as to why the Manager thinks differently. It's all rather strange.

Don't say that, you must feel sorry for the new, big Cannavaro who was the fall guy when in fact it were the other 10 players that were to blame for his **** poor level.

P.D. I obviously agree with you, I think it's just tactics as MP seems to like playing differently-footed CBs and given Forren is a no-go this season and Hooiveld just drags Fonte into the mud if they play together, then it's got to be him and Yoshida.

Jos is outstanding, I mean 3 own-goals in a season, top defender IMO.

I think that there should be a section in the OS where the manager explains his thinking on every player who is left out on a week by week basis !

Perhaps even the chairman could do the same regarding the running of the business (loans from the Virgin Islands etc..) ?

Should this total transparency come about, then all supporters would be fully informed, never have a reason to question any decisions and probably the Saintsweb forum would have to close down !

TBF, this is how it's going to be at the Skate Community Stadium so we will have a perfect model to base it on ....

To be fair the whole U21 team had a nightmare yesterday. 3-0 up with 15 minutes to go and they draw 3-3!! Hunter not happy and singled out the centre back as very poor in the last 15 minutes. A misjudgment by Jack Stephens led to the equaliser.

I have not changed my view on Forren. He came with a good reputation but a combination of needing to get up to speed and the injustice of replacing a centre back who has performed well in a brilliant unbeaten run, has meant he has to wait a while.

Maybe, just maybe, the extra CB signing has helped to improve / motivate Jos further, i.e. he was in danger of becoming 4th choice and thus hardly making the squad, never mind the pitch. Ok as its turned out this was a threat more for next season, but hey, what do we care if having 4 potential first team CBs has helped raise the standard overall?

What sense would there be in unsettling a defence at this stage of the season?!

Because it doesn't make the blindest bit of difference what the results are in the last few matches and we want to see players getting experience in what should be a competitive game ?

If Forren wore the no.6 shirt in yesterday's u21s 3-3 vs WBA then his sloppy defending was to blame for 2 of the goals (from what I could see on the Saints Player footage earlier). Saints were cruising at 0-3 with 15 mins to go.

For Forren it must be a cultural shock, gone from Champion's League and international football to scrappy kids matches on what looks like a public rec. Looks right porky as well, expect him to be gone in the summer, just doesn't look interested.

But for the original question, no they don't need to explain, the Transfer Committee bought a dud that's all, we'll get a tenner back and write the rest off. From now on we need to let Mauricio do the buying of players.
