Lambert joins Liverpool

Fit in?

He is technically excellent

And England international

1 of 15 players in Europe that scored more than 10 league goals at the same time assisting a further 10

They have loads more games to play

They are building a squad

What better 3rd striker to have for a couple of years

Also a crowd pleaser, esp being a Scouser. And helps English quotient cause.

Just said on BBC south that saints have said they will not stand in RL way if the bid is acceptable! So RK statement that no player will be sold before new manager is now incorrect. Of course we may have a manager today, not likely though

I don't believe that, he maybe saying some things and they may be true but I doubt he is sending out transfer gossip

Maybe not sending out transfer gossip, but feeding stories and propaganda to the Fail, no doubt playing a part in Poch's departure and drip feeding disquiet amongst players.

So cortese is liver pools go to man

Did cortese tell the club to say they won't stand in anyone's way if they want out?

RK has the power to stop the rumours by crushing any rumour as they come out, but they say nothing and let it breed

That statement was last night. And emphasised bid must be acceptable, which would include to the new manager.

Despite all the hype, this won't happen in a hurry. Yes it probably will happen, but no way this weekend.

Just a few days ago this forum was in meltdown because a BBC Journo Ben Smith spent a fortune of public money flying to Milan for an "Exclusive Interview" with NC.

The same forum was in meltdown because NC was using his media links (especially the Mail) to undermine the Board at Saints.

Yesterday Jim White, another contact of NC comes up with a story that is then "confirmed" by Ben Smith.

The Board re-iterate their position yet nobody believes THEM.

Next up SMS is being sold to a chain of Casinos who will redevelop the entire Waterfront and lease the Stadium back to us, the Academy is being sold to Emirates Airlines who are transferring the Technology into a global set of Academies in every City they fly to around the world in order to feed their main clubs, PSG, Arsenal and Real.

Bids will come in for every one of our players this year, (except Gazza). As we will likely bid for many players ourselves.

The fundamental difference at the moment is that there are now people out there who truly mean us harm.

Who knows. Koeman has come in from 4/1 yesterday to odds on. Maybe this is because Yakin is going elsewhere, maybe not.

I can't see where RL fits in with the Liverpool team. Who would he replace ? Unless Suarez is likely to go

Nick surely you can't be that naïve. He's being bought purely as back up, everyone knows Liverpool's lack of a big squad cost them dear, RL is an ideal squad player for them

Yep, I noticed Ben Smith and Jim White very quickly on the scene. Doesn't mean it isn't true, but I'm sure a few calls went in from certain people.

Have to say I find all this Cortese pulling the strings stuff a little far fetched. He's gone. The Board are making the decisions, Cortese is powerless.

If you want a conspiracy theory imagine how much relief there will be in the top 6 teams that Southampton are ripping apart a potentially top 6 team by feeding them their finest. Adding to their overall quality and removing a permanent threat to them for a European place. We were so close. Hell, WE ARE SO CLOSE, if this Board wakes up and STOPS SELLING NOW.

I hate seeing Rickie go. It's like watching the team be ripped apart starting with the heart and joy.

Lallana will be next, the head and drive and leadership, Shaw a speeding leg, Rodrigez the punching arm... And so on ...

Never saw Rickie leaving, especially not now as I couldn't see a better club coming in for him. This is going to be a painful one to take. Will be odd seeing him in another teams kit and even worse seeing him play against us. To lose Lambert will affect not only our play but also our dressing room. He's a legend at the club and other players respect that. He will leave a huge hole.

Good luck to him. I hope it works out. He deserves it.

We have to let him go. It hurts, but he wants Liverpool, and after alle he's done for us we should give him the oppurtunity.

At least it's not West Ham...

I certainly won't begrudge the bloke, but I don't quite get that attitude. We've done as much for him as he's done for us (bloody loads).

Fortunately LFC have the same kit so that softens the blow, NOT!!!

The problem is this comes hours after losing a manager, and just adds to the sense of exodus amongst the players. Surely the board can see the damage this is doing? We can't spend the next few weeks flogging players with no manager.

Rickie has been an immense servant for this club. I'd hoped he'd finish his career with us, but let's be honest - this might be best for all around. One of the lads I go to SMS with jokingly shouts "use your pace, Rickie!" at him quite a bit. Though pace has never really been what his game is all about, he is getting older and the day will come where he won't make the first team, and no-one will call for it.

Not sure about the 4m. On paper, it's a good fee - but we're unlikely to be able to get too much with the cash afterward.

Gotta let him go if the dosh is right though, if only to complete the full circle Rickie Lambert saga.

(get the fkn movie rights, tho' Saints :D)

The board will be well aware. They have made a statement that you, and many others choose not to believe because of the strength of the carefully-orchestrated media campaign being waged against us.

So far, the board are right. We have not sold any players and I doubt that any sales will be concluded before the new manager arrives. If they are, then enjoy telling me how deluded I was, but not until then.

If the board sell ANY players before appointing a new manager then it will make them appear very week.

I would hope the line would be, "you carry on offering away but until we know the priorities of our new manager nobody is for sale."

Even £9 Million for Rickie is peanuts if we get relegated next season.

I have just been sent this story . This is worrying

They say it must be something in the water is an oft used phrase but allegedly some of the biggest clubs in the country think its something in the Tea.

Saints are bracing themselves for major bids coming in for key employees in the canteen at Staplewood as the top six clubs in England scramble to get the services of the real play makers at SFC, the Tea Department.

Previously football nutrition has been focused on the belief that various protein diets are the key to fitness and well being, but Saints youth academy's success has prompted a study by the University of Typhoo in India to conclude that Saints recent success has been fueled by Tea.

Worth bearing in mind...

Saints have already turned down one offer for Lallana and have also rejected Manchester United's bid for left-back Luke Shaw.

The south coast club are under no financial pressure to sell and are determined not to be pressurised into sanctioning deals by suitors keen to make signings before the World Cup.

Absolutely. And yet the media are still working hard to reinforce the impression that there are "done deals" and there are plenty on this forum all too happy to swallow that without question. agents are at work all the time to put players in a position where they feel they have to move.

I'm not saying we won't lose players, but we haven't yet, despite the dozens of posts accepting unsubstantiated media reports.

There is still plenty of water to go under the bridge. Sure, our board have some tough battles to fight and time will tell where they really stand.

Naive perhaps, but RL is not their type of player in the way they play. Mobile front men, unless he sees that AL and Rl play so well together that he needs the pair to knit in. May as well have lept Andy Carroll, not that i believe RL is just a target man but he just doesnt seem to me to be their type at present.

Blackmore just said that talks resuming today with utd for Luke shaw.

Blackmore just restating that Man U are approaching Saints with a new offer for Luke Shaw.

That can equally mean that our answer will be no, we will not discuss this matter at this time.

It does not bode well for the new manager if they have sold half the squad before he is even appointed.

Interviewee - what players do I have at my disposal ?

Interviewer - well we have a very strong academy and yoshida, davis plus we will give you 10 million to reinforce the squad.

It will also be difficuilt to attract any quality replacement players even if we do splash some cash as real quality will not want to come here.

Meantime Liverpool have also bid for Clyne, Cork, Rodriguez and Lovren. Fonte, Schneiderlin and JWP off to Arsenal. Boruc, Shaw and Lallana going to Spurs with MoPo and Chambers, Davis (S), Wanyama and Reed going to Man U.

Stoke are coming in for Davis (K) and Yoshida. Ramirez and Osvaldo off to Luton Town, with Mayuka going to Eastleigh despite strong interest from Salisbury.

Les Reed has been sold off for spare parts, Jos has been melted down for glue and the stadium has been sold off to Veho to use as a giant test centre. No news yet on Staplewood but Pompey are interested in turning it into a Tescos or something.

No bids yet for Gazzaniga.

Well, as Bill Shankly said, you build a great team starting with the GK. That's probably our plan. Hoddle for Manager.

Let's be honest it's a done deal. Still in shock, genuinely thought it was a wind up. We've had a lot of our players linked to clubs, but Rickie was one I wasn't worried about. You can't begrudge him a move, but we won't be able to replace him. And now have to watch him at the World Cup being talked about as a Liverpool player

This!

Extremely naive - don't even bring Carroll into it.

Did you see BR's press conference from the first game? Spoke gushingly about Lambert and the technical side of his game. Remember he would be a 4th choice to replace replace the ineffectual Aspas. Would be a decent option when teams come to park the bus and drop deeper. He can hold the ball up in dangerous areas and will have time to play others in as well as provide an aerial threat relative to Sturridge and Suarez. They don't have an option like that. Away from home, it's a different matter. He doesn't fit their counterattacking style. But as I say, he's going to fill the squad, not be an every game starter.

SSN reporting fee is £8 Million

So 9 then 8 and now 4, they'd best wait on then, it will be 50p come tomorrow.

Still circumspect, although I am extremely sceptic on the new board in general and Krueger in particular i just don't believe that he'd shoot himself in the ass so quickly, even though I do actually believe that he says what he thinks you all want to hear with little consideration of ensuing effects.

Still cant get my head around this apart from the fact that it seems that Cortese was apparenntly in the process of selling him to West Ham before he left. Pleased for Ricky but really hoped he would end his career with us. A true legend and it will be very hard to replace him. I was looking forward to watching the World Cup with three Saints in the England set up - it looks less and less likely now. I was prepared to give Freddy Krueger the benefit of the doubt after his press release but if players are sold before the new manager comes in where does that leave his credibility? Gutted.

says who? he has been out on loan all season and could well be off again

Most Liverpool fans I know. They have high hopes for him. If they get the £12m they're asking for, wouldn't be surprised if they then bring someone else in.
