I think Gonzalez played for Uruguay at right back during the world cup. If it was him, I have memories of him causing a few issues for Leighton Baines in the group game.

Possibly because their regular right back Pereira decided to get sent off in the first game.

There's two Alvaro Gonzalez.

A spanish central defender at Espanyol, and

A Uruguayan winger at Lazio.

I'm assuming we are meaning the winger?

Wtf! He was a fantastic player, yes he didn't have many "great" games for England but many solid performances. If you're right then thats a stain on his career, but he has been brilliant for Liverpool over the years.

All the more impressive given the rumours around at the time he wanted to move to chelski. We should have learned from that approach, we'd still have the players we've lost.

Yes, but according to an Italian Journo I asked he is more of a gritty, energetic, defensive player who plays right midfield.

Not the type we need.

Looking at our current defensive options I would take Micah Richards on the proviso that he played CB predominantly, he'd also be a very good RB to have if Clyne got injured. Obviously wages would be the problem there, as well as his patchy injury record but he is still a very good player and one that would've been established in the England team by now if he hadn't suffered so many injuries imo.

Hardly surprising to see Richard Wright wasn't being paid.

The wages he's on at WBA are still massive, circa £75k.

That's crazy. Can they really afford that? Surely that must disrupt the dressing room wage scale somewhat? Though I suppose they wouldn't have got him if they couldn't afford that. He's hardly going to drop from 90+ pw to 30 pw is he now.

Those City wages are obscene. Football is horrendously greedy but we all convince ourselves its just how it is. But there's nothing we can do about it really, even if we stopped going the amount we pay in ticket prices compared to the PL income is nothing.

I think we over play that "disrupt the dressing room" when it comes to wages.... When talking Prem football anyway

That in itself is madness. I assume there are all kinds of clauses should WBA go down, otherwise their parachute payments will be spent on paying Lescotts salary...

I think we should stump up for Aguero - I am sure they will let him go - I met him before the Man City away game when he was playing golf and said how much I admired him and asked him to come to Saints. He politely declined - nice guy and with good English.

How do you know that? Just because the club aren't giving you (or the press) a minute by minute update doesn't mean they aren't doing anything on the transfer front.

Yes it does! I mean in Football Manager I just press a few buttons and I've made a bid all within a few seconds, how hard can it be ffs? Les out.

I had a little look at some of the wingers we've been linked with since the start of the summer... Wonder if we'll see one of them join?

- Scott Sinclair

- Rafa Silva

- Marko Marin

- Victor Moses

- Nabil Bahoui

- Nathan Redmond

- Ezequiel Schelotto

- Younes Belhanda

- Jonathan Biabiany

- Serge Gnabry

- Solly March

- Andros Townsend

- Agim Ibraimi

City want a full transfer for Sinclair and all his wages paid, that's why he's still there and why his career is going down the pan. You'd hope that is a wake up call to any other young player leaving for a big club!

Victor/Marin have gone elsewhere I think.

I'd love to see March here, I think he's class and he adds back to the English core we lost.

Damn, I knew someone would pick me up on that! - But I would've expected MLG to have done it :)

Do you think the Redmond trail has gone cold?

Not sure what's happened with that. There were a few clubs interested, including Stoke. Maybe it's all happening in the background.

If I'm honest though, I have a feeling we've moved away from him and we are after Top flight experience for our wide option. Will be interesting to see who we get anyway, as we will certainly get a wide player I'm sure of it.

Hope we get a couple of deadline day deals, always makes it more exciting!

I'm not as worried about a winger, think Isgrove has something to offer and McQueen, plus Rodriguez to come back and long playing wide.

Still think more important is another striker. Trouble is, they'd be competing with Pelle for one spot. Just think we need better than Gallagher as back up there.

And a CB but we seem determined to maintain that madness. I don't want it to become the Yoshida knocking season, he's not actually that bad, he's just a level lower than everyone else in the side and it shows.

I think we're well stocked up front, more so than last year. Take into account Jay who will be returning soon, he's not months away as some are suggesting. So you've got Jay, Long, Pelle, Gallagher - that's more options than we had last year!

I see Jay/Long competing for the same spot, and same goes for Pelle/Gallagher. I think we need a winger for balance, we looked a little lop sided on Sunday I felt. The partnership down the left was excellent, but it was only really Clyne offering anything on the right - so if we get another Tadic like wide option to go on the right, then we will be a pretty solid outfit.

In an ideal world you'd want another CB and RB, but the reality is that we still have options within the squad for those if worst comes to worst. Reckon we'll see a wide man come in and that'll be that.

More options , but worryingly that does not necessarily mean more of a 'goal threat', unless Pelle reproduces his Feyenoord scoing record for us.
