Alfie House at the Echo might as well get a job at the club, he’s so far up their bottle.

The media around the club is a total disaster overseen by someone that should have long been moved on.

Trying to work out if that's better or worse than every post coming across as supercilious... ;)

It's stage two of the grieving process.

There's a few games Left in the Turkish top division. But Göztepe have just won their final game of the season and confirmed they'll finish in eighth.

A pretty even season in the end

Played 36. Won 13. Drew 11. Lost 12. Scored 59. Conceded 50. Finished on 50 PTS.

Only 5 PTS away from a European spot.

Are you a time traveller from the 1970s?

How has Ben Chorley been promoted from Valenciennes to us then? Sure his time there hasn't really been a success.

Isn't going from Sporting Director of a club to Head of UK Scouting a demotion?

Well, VAFC is just SFC's farm team, so it is a promotion I say.

Chorley was Head of Scouting at Swindon Town, before becoming Director of football at Swindon Town.

Its putting a square peg in a square hole. but definitely with a lot less power than he had at VaFC.

He's a complete weapon. I'd be very worried if he started sniffing around the club..

I think Ben will have more success here, because he was born in your country, played in your country and got his first taste of scouting here too.

Here in France, he has never managed to adapt to football and the way it works.

A SR problem, and not just a Chorley one. 🙂

Above all, I think that SR wants to do well in football, but unfortunately, they're making one bad choice after another and disappointing people.

Not exactly a lot of pedigree in this new-look recruitment team, but I suppose we'll have to give SR (another) chance to nut up or shut up.

Was looking the article posted this morning or last night and am left wondering.

Spors comes with a decent reputation, Lederer was involved at Hoffenheim who I thought had a reasonable record for unearthing decent players to stay afloat in the Bundesliga. So far, so good.

Then Spors has brought in some of his former cronies from Genoa, including  a bloke who looks about 16. What's their track record there ? No idea about Steve Stanton or  Chorley, his time at Swindon and Valenciennes doesn't make a ringing endorsement., but then very few of us had heard of Paul Mitchell when he arrived.

The Mariella 'Doris'  has a bit more credit in the bank from her time at Norwich, if as suggested she brought a couple of decent players from South America.

Then there's a bloke who was a software engineer at Barclays...

Possibly. I'm just swaying to it being another example of SR not quite being as ruthless as they need to be. Chorley, you haven't done great at Valenciennes, so we're going to give you a new role at Southampton now. Rather than, Chorley, you haven't done a good job, we're going to have to part ways now as you haven't shown to be at the level we're looking for.

True to a point. Two different roles of course, and not being suited to one doesn't mean he can't be successful at the other.

Can’t quite fully iterate it yet, but I’m starting to get a nasty feeling that SR have not really learnt lessons and this season will be another shitshow because Still will not get the backing he needs. There’s a long way to go yet, but there’s a huge gap in confidence these chancers have to make up.

I'm very much fed up of SR recycling crap staff around the group instead of just cutting them loose. If they screw up this season, they need to go.

Fed up based on which staff moves around the group?

I'm sure @dazstevnson1953 is right across the multi million pound dealings in the world of football. Of course he is.

I’m more surprised that he’s got £150m to stump up in the first place.

Depends I guess. If they’re just needed to do a bit of low risk player trading for Goztepe or VAFC then they’ll probably do OK. Try and get a relatively decent striker for Saints and I’m not so sure. No need to panic yet, but there’s not much to rejoice about at the moment. I’m wondering if the extent of joy we’ll experience might be reserved for the end of the window with the retention of Fernandes and Charles.

Early days this summer but so far our only signing is a 19 year old with potential.

The appointment of Still in itself will either prove to be an inspired stroke of genius, or another in a long line of SR brain fart gambles.

Can’t complain about their intentions, and Dragan putting £ in. So far it’s the people around him who have let him down. Just hope Spors bucks that trend. Review it at close of transfer window.

But be careful in hoping for change. We certainly don’t need a ‘Fake Sheikh’ at the helm. His record at Almeira is nothing to suggest he’d improve things here.

Happy with Spors so far. He's clearly been given the remit to direct significant change within the recruitment of the club (which was badly needed) - and since he's been in he's ticked every milestone i'd have set him (scouting setup rebuilt and structured seemingly quite well, took his time on what looks a good manager hire, and made what looks a decent young signing).

In summary - finally looks like SR (Solak now lets be honest), have put power in the hands of proper footballing people.

Still a long way to go, I'm not going to be singing from the rooftops just yet - but the first moves and changes have been logical and sensible, which is more than we had before.

I'll be interested to see where we are at the end of August and how he's navigated the window, that for me is the first big milestone test of everything he's put in place.

If we head into September with Smallbone in CM and Bazunu our first choice in Goal, then I'm sorry, it's going to be no different.
