This is why I always hate the common get out clubs make in transfer windows.

''If they're not better than what we've got, then we will not panic''

If the scouts aren't finding better than the likes of Adam Armstrong, Smallbone, Fraser, Edozie etc then the problem is with them, not that there's no one better out there. It's a common get out clubs use, such as us, and it basically equates to them saying ''we are absolutley shit at scouting, we've picked a couple of good players, if we can't get them we have no where else to turn''.

Indeed. I could even forgive us having weaknesses last year if lots of people did turn us down but the lack of strengthening over almost the entire team is utterly damming. The only places we actually strengthened were attacking midfield (even that's arguable without Stuart Armstrong) and goalkeeper. The fact we've had Bree, Smallbone, Onuachu and Manning playing a reasonable amount of games for us this year it's actually not surprising we've done as bad as we have done. Not a single team in Premier league history would have done that. Even Luton and Blackpool strengthened more when they got promoted.

Shankland is not good enough, like Kris Boyd he has scored plenty of goals in Scotland  and that is his limit. If he was any good Rangers or Celtic would have signed him. In the championship in England Boyd scored 1 every 3 games and was loaned out by Boro. If we sign Shankland it would more than likely be a total disaster, assuming the rumours are true,of course.

after two good seasons, he only scored 8 goals this season.

Michael Mandron scores goals in the scottish premier league Chez, the same player who was at Eastleigh and Hartlepool. If we cannot do better than Shankland we are in for a really poor season. [ Which we will any way, unless we get rid of the great piles of deadwood and get in some decent players who really want to be at the club. ]

Heard in the week that we’ve been having a close look at Patterson the Sunderland keeper as a possible replacement for Ramsdale. On today’s showing in the play off final, assuming Sunderland get beat, I hope that is the case.

Think we can forget that now.

This what Blades fans think of BBD…….not that I thought they’d take him off our hands but he’ll be a difficult sell:

BBD -1 - Jesus. One of the most laughable performances I've seen from the bench. Came on. Lost the ball. Got booked because he can't be arsed to run backwards. Lost the ball. Got injured. If he got the nod ahead of JRS then Wilder needs to look long and hard in a mirror.

A spot on assessment of his day.

And to think it only took Saints a few months to coach that into him. Imagine what we could have achieved if he'd been here the whole season.

Might that depend on whether Sunderland see him as a Premier League level keeper or not? In theory, them going up could make it more likely we'll sign him, rather than less... (McCarthy is a decent championship keeper, but not really good enough for the PL, for example)

(Caveat: I've no idea how good he is so I could be talking bollocks, just for a change :) )

Loan swap Ramsdale for Patterson for a season. Everyones a winner.

Was hoping we might have had an exchange  involving Cooper at Sheff Utd had they gone up ( with some £ coming out way as well, and not on a loan). Not to be.

If we are thinking of keepers,  then Owen Goodman may be worth a shout (??) Whether Palace want to sell is one thing, but they will at least want to loan him out to a team in the Championship

Werder are interested in Kotchap....apparently.

Borussia Mönchengladbach too.

Bella-Kotchap is going to be linked with every German club going. It’s agent talk, but also probably the most likely.

I imagine he’s on the “get rid at all costs” list 🤣

You are probably right. Both parties will want a move, again, but finding a home will be tough. Perhaps the reduction of wage on relegation (assuming he has one) will help facilitate it.

I was thinking he might be sent to Turkey

Does anyone remember from years back that penalty shooting game that we played trying to get saints to the top of the league and the biggest rivals on there were monchengladbach?

We probably managed to put in a really low bid, ahead of haggling, and missed out getting a player from our own group. 🙂

He’s being linked to Champs league teams and we have 117 forwards

Its dissapointing but unsurprising we havn’t got involved

117 forwards who can't score a goal between them

Why haven't we signed anyone yet FFS.

I'm more interested in who we're shipping out. So many players who apparently "train well" and don't show up at the weekend that keep getting picked week by week.

I'm sorry. We are signing players and beefing up Goztepe... What is the point if we don't get to sign their best? Seems a lopsided relationship.

Juan and Matsuki are still our players. Them gaining experience in European football helps them develop and that benefits Saints.

Romulo is seemingly interesting Champions League clubs, it is a hard sell for the player to prefer Saints in the Championship over that. Had we still been in the Premier League it may have been possible as we could compete on wages.

Yes, It will be interesting to see what happens now. I cannot help think not much will be spent, relying on WS nous as manager to get the best out of a collection of u21 graduates (like Robinson), those that remain from the large squad and a few unknowns and PL loans.

Üzgünüm. Oyuncular transfer ediyoruz ve Göztepe'yi güçlendiriyoruz... En iyilerini transfer edemezsek bunun ne anlamı var? Tek taraflı bir ilişki gibi görünüyor.

Your players have gained experience, if you were to sell Juan today, you would have transferred him for at least 3.5 million euros, 800 thousand euros, not a bad profit at all. He is an extremely hard-working striker.

'Congratulations on an amazing season Romulo'
'Thanks boss - will I get my big move now?'
'Yes, congratulations on a great campaign and your Champions League offers for next season... but have you ever heard of Southampton? They're known as the second-worst Premier League team ever and they'll be playing in the second division in England. That's your prize'

I think not.

The player does have to actually want the move for the multi-club model to work - and why on earth would he want to come here ahead of his other options?

Anyone in here that we think would drop down and do a job?

FB_IMG_1748207439215.jpg

Ben Mee, Fabianski, Tom Cairney, Wayne Hennessy, Tom Heaton.

I would love Doucore but think he wouldn’t come here nor would Gueye.

Not Mason Holgate😀

Id deffo take Tom Cairney and Ben Mee on short term deals. Two leaders in the spine of the team that we desperately need.

Heaton, Fabianski or Begovic could make for decent back up goalkeepers with useful experience but I think I'd prefer a goalkeeper that's closer to 30 than 40 as the first choice.

We need first choice. McCarthy is fine for Champ 2nd choice. Bazanu out on loan for the next 2 seasons to whoever will take him with us paying most of the wages.
