He's the only player i'm bothered about keeping to be honest, he could absolutely tear the championship a new one with the right strike force ahead of him. And i'll miss singing his song if he goes too. As will my daughter. I'd like him to stay as much as any Saints fan, but there's al limit to how far I'd go to try and persuade him. Plays CB, seems to be a bit of a leader too, which is exceptional for a 15 year old playing in the U18s. Didn’t sign pro for Saints when he turned 16, so of course other clubs have come in. Arsenal and Aston Villa were also chasing him. don't know the details of the deal, usually there is a sell on clause but will be a few years before first team appearance and possible sale.

Absolute class When I watch him I always wonder what Southampton was thinking. I mean I have seen a lot of Southampton PL matches and Edwards should in the starting 11 for them, not on loan to us Ronnie has done so well, he’s a class act and I could see him carving out a great premier league career If he considers joining permanently and he continues to Do well until end of season then perhaps I will change my mind. But for me he is decent but no where near a best loan player Edwards has been good but not a patch on Walker, Taarabt and Routledge. They were different gravy. Completely agree on Edwards. He’s been a vital addition. His versatility to play centre mid against Leeds was very important to getting something from that game. For the record, they pretty much universally agree that Kyle Walker was their best loanee signing. The new Glenn Roeder feels rather scathing ... 1

Looked a bit slow and they subbed him off after 70 mins (think they were about 4 or 5 down at the time). Leave that type of signing for QPR, Pompey, Charlton or Oxford. Our main new striker needs to be in the bracket best in division and will cost twice that price bracket. We’ve already got AA, Archer and BBD who are proven Champ scorers, any new striker has to be able to link up play and finish which makes them cut above what we have. I reckon he’d be good for what Pompey need, staying up and nicking a dozen goals with Bishop. What we need is 25-30 goals and he ain’t getting us that. Edited June 11 by Gloucester Saint

SR either want to win the title or they don’t. Better sticking with what we have if that’s the standard we are targeting, Che cost £15m remember. AA ditto. Strikers win you trophies. Could just have been a bad game but certainly wasn’t a performance that would have many raving about him. The second coming of Glenn Roeder was Jack Stephens-esque here as well. No awareness or urgency to the only danger in the box and fails to get across his man for the first goal, and a feeble attempt at a block that even Will Smallbone might think a bit limp on the second. Again, my concern with people raving about the guy who wasn't good enough to get in the worst defence in the PL (and second worst in history) last season and insisting we build our future defence around him, is that his stock has been artificially inflated by A) not being tainted by this season's disaster, and B) the disproportionate weight given to how comfortable a defender looks on the ball verses whether he can actually defend the goal. Give him a chance, sure. But I don't see how he has suddenly become a better option than the garbage we already have on the books, on account of how misty-eyed QPR fans got watching him contribute to making their defensive record worse as they limped into 15th in the championship.

Agree on those four, Wrexham could, they certainly seem to be focused on paying bigger wages than all bar Brum (not sure I’d adopt that policy but it answers your point) Coventry I’ve heard have given Lampard a good budget and have the ability/ownership to go north of £10m on at least one player. Norwich could if they sell Sargent, Manning won’t have left Bristol City for the same budget as he had there. Boro have in the recent past for a standout player and Carrick just got the sack for 7th. I’m not suggesting £10m for all signings, we will be boxed into a corner if we go up again, but we cannot get the centre forward position wrong again. Stewart will be a Connolly, good cameos, BBD sell if we can, Archer and AA keep, Onachu go. That leaves scope for someone with a bit extra. Edited June 11 by Gloucester Saint 1

Chez Posted June 11 Posted June 11 Didn't we spend £10m total the last Time we went down? And that was while we were bringing in £150m. I'm not expecting us to spend a lot, but that doesn't mean we can't improve the team.

Manning free. Rest were loans and some good ones.

Absolutely, we’ve seen where buying strikers too cheap for the division the club has been in ever since Ings left has gotten us, and we’ve bought plenty of them too. Quantity but desperate lack of quality. We will have an advantage next season but can’t assume AA will get 20+ goals again or that Stewart will be fit for 25+ starts. There’s a serious lack of a striker who can link play as well since Che. Edited June 11 by Gloucester Saint 3

A bit like Max Alleyne to Man City a few years ago then. Ive never actually hear of this kid going to Man United, nor do I imagine many have on here. Seen a few on social media give it the old “disgraceful by the club”, I’m pretty confident they’d never heard of him either. People forget he is 15/16 years old, there’s on a very select few that go on to make it higher up after signing for bigger teams at a young age. Some never fulfill their potential. See Jimmy-Jay Morgan who wanted £10K supposedly at the age of 17 to stay at Saints and is now plying his trade in constant loans in League 2. 😂 2
Chez Posted June 12 Posted June 12 2 hours ago, Danbert said: We spent more than that surely - what did Charles cost? Yes, see posts above, we signed Stewart for £8m. Charles cost £10m. The rest were loans plus the promise of £20m to City for THB the following summer on promotion.
Chez Posted June 12 Posted June 12 With the Onuachu to Trabzonspor deal going the usual path - them offering bobbins, us saying no - the latest rumour is that Rennes are interested. Meanwhile it looks like Braga want €11m for Simon Banza, and that is beyond Trabzonspor (he scored 19 goals for them while on loan), hence Besiktas being the club likely to sign him. If we still want a similar amount for Onuachu, then he wont be going to Trabzonspor. 1
