Presume they originally wanted Captain Jack but he was then given an extended contract so they've gone for Jan as the next best thing.

BOGOF ???

Edwards, Quarshie, Kayi Sanda, Wood... the future of our CBs lies with them, no place for Bednarek or ABK. I'm kinda hoping THB sticks around though but I'm not holding my breath.

Didn't mind Bednarek but he's a Championship level defender and should never have been playing in the Prem.

Rumours on twitter of Wood to Rangers on loan.

Where? Can only see the one from somebody called Nick who I think is just throwing it out there himself😂 any actual links?

That’s the one I saw. He was on the money breaking the Ugochukwu transfer and a couple of others last year, so I thought it could be of interest as we have had little to no rumours until Bednarek

Glad to see the back of him.  Wasn’t our worst defender though.

No, he's just been rewarded with an extended contract.

Good move for him, came in and had a real resurgence after his villa move, definitely repaired some bridges in my mind.

Was arguably our best defender over the last couple of years, which shows how badly we’ve fallen off really.

Good deal for us, good deal for him, good to see the squad trimming continue

28m for him, Onuachu and Sulemana is mad business, well done Spoors/Rasmus and long may it continue

Wood and Quarshie would make for a pacy high line defensive pairing.

Are they experienced enough.

Taylor may remain for left sided cover.  Is he good or tall  enough ?

I think THB and ABK will be sold / loaned

Is that a strong enough centre to challenge for Autos ??

Not with Stephens as cover.

I suppose we have Edwards also but is he good enough.

Lots of unknowns.

We have one physically dominant centre back in quarshie..  the majority are all very short ,wood being the exception .

When a number of our fans turned on him a few years ago when our defence was struggling under Hassenhuttl, I always thought it was unfair. At that time he was the experienced defender always putting in a good shift and striving his hardest to cover for the errors of others (e.g. Salisu). Yet, because he was the player frequently struggling to cover two or three positions he got all the blame and his head dropped.

Then he spat his dummy out and went to Villa, only grudgingly returning when that didn't work out. After he returned he never really restored the level of effort that he had previously shown in my opinion, though he did ok in our promotion season.

Last season it felt like instead of being the player covering for other players shortcomings, he was instead the player blaming others for his own shortcomings. I think it illustrated to me that he had lost belief in Saints and maybe even in his own ability. I am therefore pleased to see him go. I hope for his own sake that he can rediscover his best form and be successful at Porto.

By "whom".

While "whom" is grammatically correct after a preposition like "by," using "who" is widely accepted in everyday English because aligns with how people actually speak.

"Rumour by who?" sounds conversational and natural.

"Rumour by whom?" sounds formal or old-fashioned.

This is a football forum, so the former is the setting.

How “people actually speak” is a very low bar Matthew, quite frankly I yet again find myself disappointed in your slipshod attitude!!

To whom it may concern.... you missed the 'it' between 'because' and 'aligns'. You are very welcome. :)

Taylor bought a house just around the corner from us. The house is deserted.

Make of that that you will.

Some good points but, in my  view, we need to address the lack of creativity and poor goal scoring record - I don't think the defence should be our priority.

Rumours is a very loose term nowadays given that 99% of tabloid and social media chatter is bullshit.

Look at journalists on social media with a reliable track record then.

Russ should get Lucy to help sweet talk the player into agreeing to the loan.

Purely so the headline can be 'PINDER HELPS MARTIN GET WOOD'.

Shall we have a new thread on the merits of the Oxford comma

Is this relevant to us?

A direct rival losing maybe their best player (and getting some much-needed funds) and a club who have been linked to Fernandes going for a different midfielder? I'd say so, yes

Yes because the vast majority of people in this country can no longer speak properly.

So less than 2 weeks before the season starts our transfer thread is littered with posts about grammar. Things don’t bode well for the season I fear.

There should be a comma between season and I fear.

I'm hoping this is the lull before the storm - it's certainly very quiet with not even the hint of the most outrageous rumour. Maybe many activities are going on behind the scenes. We certainly need to freshen up what is a very stale set of players.

Good move for him. A better Goalkeeper than the relegation merry go round he's found himself in.

Hopefully it gets sorted ASAP and we have a month to bring somebody else in to be the starter, although unfortunately I imagine another giant oversight where we sign another Lumley 3rd choice and trust Bazunu once more.

I'm almost certain we will bring in a third choice and have Bazunu and McCarthy battle it out for the number 1 shirt. Depressing.

Just forgot got the same alert from Sky. Acid test for Spors here - don’t fuck up like you did on Jack’s extension, and ensure a first choice keeper is brought into replace. No chance of the autos with the other two in goal.

Promotion gone if so and we will be in the EFL for a long time.

No chance. Bazunu is the number one again this season. Was always going to be the case.
