What kind of wide players does Will Still play with, historically?  Old school wide players? Or inside forwards?

i thought he played with inside forwards and often with a false nine as opposed to CF. not sure he used wingers but relied on the FB getting forward to create overloads out wide. Probably totally wrong but that im expecting us to line up

The main concern is whether our government would block it! And whether we would be able to bypass international sanctions.

And whether they would provide the player with a work permit. The fact is hasnt been signed by someone better has nothing to do with ability.

If those reports have any truth then you would hope the club and lawyers have determined a way that they could actually send that amount of cash legitimately to Russia and register him, but I can't see it myself.

I think - I could be wrong and you'll no doubt tell me - that that was a joke.

That is an interesting point and could happen in theory. However, UK companies continued to trade with Russia in 2024 totalling £1.8 billion. Sanctions are meant to prevent Russia from continuing their war against Ukraine. Not sure that a football transfer falls into that category.

So is that link saying that Edozie is definitely departing? Really want him to stay and shine.

Seems like it's going to happen, no real loss imo. Hopefully we get a decent fee and a sell on percentage

Maybe it’s my age, but I honestly didn't know who PO, JB, FD and YS were...why not just write the names out in full? Sure, for the double barrelled names I can understand it, I do it myself, but does "Downes" (I got there in the end) need to be shortened to FD? I gave up reading you post in the end.

Agree, if I wanted to do puzzles I’ll do wordle and connections!

Does that mean Baz is the only one left from our famous 9/10 transfer window 2022/23 season?

Not if we can't shift ABK and Aribo. Larios is technically still our player too

If there is anything I learned from the last relegation is that if I personally want a player to stay, it's because he is good, and if he is good, he will almost certainly depart.

I think KWP was the only exception, and his non departure was probably because he was fucking terrible in the relegation season but us having no interest in selling him cheap, especially as Livramento left. Ramsdale and Ferndandes will inevitably depart. Will Dibling become the next KWP, I somehow doubt it.

If he is Russian and does sign. will he refuse to play in away games when our strip is yellow & blue?

No idea who claret and hughs' source is, but how does he know ten clubs are in for Fernandes? It wouldn't surprise me. If you perform in the PL like he did, everyone is interested.

It seems now the pre-season tour is over the dominos are beginning to fall starting with outgoings. Would be good to hear some news about incoming players but hopefully work is in progress.

Let's be honest Edozie was never going to make it in the prem. If we get a reasonable amount I'm happy for him to leave. Wingers become close to top priority in the window now.

I hope we have a good sell on percentage as if he does get stronger he could be a top player

Quite a few players will need to leave before others come in and they will. Patience the whole market is pretty quiet right now as is normal

No surprise '10 clubs' are in for Fernades, he is Premier League ready. I just hope he gives us another year.

I thought Forest, Villa,  Spurs, or Utd would be in a bidding war. West Ham seem to be getting a bit desperate.

He has a contract to 2029 so he won't be cheap. That might just stop any deals.

Wishful thinking on my part sadly.

It *is* just possible that claretandhugh.info is a load of old clickbait bolox, of course.

West Ham fans says the source is the chairman, so David Sullivan.  One person who would likely be aware of how many clubs are interested

I'm imagine Fernandes is appealing because a lot of clubs assume he'll be cheap since a) we didn't pay very much for him b) he was good but performance level was probably limited vs true potential by the drag effect of playing in an historically awful team, and c) the perception that we'll have to sell because we got relegated. They probably think they can get him for double what we paid if they wait.

Asking price £60m with a 50% sell on clause. Then he might be sticking around

Highly possible, you give me hope, but in all honesty we've been expecting this since the end of the season.

it will stop some deals. KWP would probably have left when we went down last time but for our no doubt significant asking price. This will be the same. There will be plenty of tire kickers thinking they can get him for £25m or something silly like that, but we are only going to be selling to a serious buyer making a serious offer. I wonder just how many of those there really are.

Given he's got that long left on his contract and we don't need to sell him, then I hope we show some balls and tell him (politely) that he's not going anywhere this season. Let's be different for once (or "do a Cortese" as it used to be known as back in the day... ;) )

Probably enough to sell unfortunately. I fully expect 40 million plus (hopefully closer to 50) which is good money but I just hope we can bring in top championship players in a few areas in exchange.

Need funds for Jack's new contract and then afford to tie down Smallbone, BBD, Armstrong and Bazunu forever.

Is that the same Cortese who made verbal agreements with a number of players they could leave in the summer, then made sure he fcked off before the exodus occurred?

£7-8m or so...

That's about 50 million raised this summer then. You do have to think we will be able to hold onto one of our bigger players. Let's say we do sell Aribo, send Ramsdale on loan for a sizable fee and then Fernandes for big cash thats going to be getting close to 100 million. Surely at that point the argument for selling Dibling and THB at least for financial reasons won't make a lot of sense.

Nice @trousers-  If it’s not what you say ( if you negatively criticise a player the club a tactic that’s generally all lovely on here as lots of people love to get in a crying gaggle ( whats the collective term for a group of moaners ? A “Wail” seems as good a term as any….) but just try personally defending anything on here that anyone else has determined is received wisdom and oh dear just bought yourself a ticket to Wail heaven. But that’s old news.

Today’s Wailing novelty is HOW you say it THATS THE PROBLEM. ho ho. No initials for players names - half the posters here don’t even know who is in the squad so I appreciate use of their initials is actually a waste of time, others, realising that being offended nay even outraged and angry is the latest and best thing to be- about anything- but most of all about Saints can now take umbrage at initials.

If you like this content please like and consider subscribing to SAINTSWAIL@SFC.com.

I've thought often that people use initials because;

a) they can't remember the player's names

b) they can't spell the player's names

c) they can't pronounce the player's names

Isn't it just laziness?

Good return, I think

Kind of pisses all over the 'sign promising young talent, develop them and sell for a handsome profit' philosophy that drove our transfer strategy that summer though, cos that's basically what we paid for him.

Although with Sam Amo Ameyew we got a decent profit so it does work out on occasion.

Ah... I'm feeling somewhat inadequately informed all of a sudden in that case... 😛
