You’ve probably never knowingly seen him play so you have no idea of his quality.

They’ve played at most 2 full games and you’ve made wild conclusions about their squad role this season.

Don’t judge people in charge of recruitment at the end of August.

I haven't made wild conclusions and I haven't judged people in charge of recruitment at the end of August. I've done neither of those things.

You’ve literally concluded Downs and Quashie will both be solid squad players but won’t play every week and stated Spors a couple of weeks to prove your doubts wrong. So yes, you have.

No I've said that at the moment I haven't seen anything from them yet that would make me think they are ready to come in and improve us immediately. When we brought the likes of Downes and THB in last time that's exactly what they did almost straight away. I actually said they could both come good but at the moment they aren't at that level, they are works in progress that may develop over time and be decent players. Of course Spors has a couple of weeks left of the window to bring in the required quality that I believe we need. I don't think it's unreasonable for supporters to have some doubts at the moment given the lack of incomings and outgoings. Those doubts may disappear when we bring in high quality signings over the next fortnight. I'm appraising the job that has been done up until this point, not writing him off because I've acknowledged there's still time in the window.

Yeah and I’m saying don’t judge him at the end of the window. Judge him when the season has panned out. Slagging him off at the end of the window because you don’t like the names we’ve signed is daft considering you’d have seen them play 4 times at most by then?

Like every single window when people bring these things up, it's perfectly reasonable to make an initial assessment on a window when it closes and then reappraise that assessment throughout the season. That's not writing off players. In general, when fans of other teams laugh and take the piss when we sign a player that's normally a bad sign. The other side of that is fans that are upset about losing a player is normally an indication that a player is more likely than not to be a success. That's certainly been my experience when looking at potential signings. If you'd employed your logic last year, you'd be unable to criticise the largely crap business in the summer window until we'd got to months in and no wins even though it was obvious to anyone with a brain that we had missed many of our targets and our overall business was lacking.

At the moment, Still has said he wants some new players with championship experience and if we manage to bring that in the next two weeks then that may be an improvement. Similarly if we manage to get some of these bigger name signings over the line then that might improve our squad overall. Currently though I am entirely free to comment on a window whilst it's happening and it's conclusion. Maybe Spors will pull it out of the bag in the next two weeks or maybe he will underwhelm me with some more solid but uninspiring signings who will then gel and smash the league. It's still not going to stop me from commenting on the window and it's not daft to do so.

"Shifting dead wood" and "PSR" having a strong showing on the treadmill of shitty transfer window excuses this year. But it's not too late for "just missing out on our top target", "being comfortable with the talent in the squad" and the old workhorse "unreasonable agents fees" to make a late run.

If our scouting has genuinely improved, we need to be finding players like Tanaka, Torp, Sakamoto, Wright, Van Ewijk, Bogle, Gruev etc. None of those cost big bucks, just well scouted and well suited players who slot straight into the team. No clever bollock kid signings, just ready-made starters.

If Coventry and Leeds can obtain those sorts in the Championship, then there's no reason why we can't.

Good point well made.

And don’t forget, we’re the only club in the world who have to pay agent fees.

That seems a very odd transfer...it may be a decoy for the Armenian guy to make his mind up, or this may be instead of Rudoni.

Good point. Maybe Still has now had a chance to properly watch and evaluate Rudoni and said ‘hang on, we don’t need to spend £12m to get what he brings in this division’.

I guess we're into that stage of another 10/10 transfer window where we're scrambling around for some random journeymen who have done nothing in their careers to make up the numbers.

We were down at Christmas, so have had a good six months to plan this rebuild.

The rebuild can only start when we get rid of some of our players and of course not many of our targets want to come to St Marys

It is not easy to rebuild instantly

Looks like replacing Edozie , maybe similar level but making a few million ?

Nobody can be happy least of all you at this kind of minimalist effort.

Your mission was to give Saintsweb contemporary and insightful sitting on the fence yet biting social commentary regarding the state of Southampton Football Club. And all you’ve got is “Could be Wurst”.
For you, the Forum is over.

So Leeds fallback plan if they don’t get Buonanotte from Brighton is none other than… Spertsyan 😂 as we predicted weeks ago, we’re being used and his agent is hoping/waiting for a better offer to come along. MOVE ON SPORS and do it quickly would be nice

What happened to that Scienza bloke? That’s all gone quiet.

I get why clubs wait and wait and wait until the last minute to get a better deal, but do you know what, how nice would it be just for July 10th to have come around and Saints have sealed five signings? Pay the extra and get it done early.

Well, one point to consider is Everton and West Ham look like they're gonna be struggling this season. Not sure that's gonna be appealing to Dibling or Fernandes, serial relegation battles isn't much fun...

It isn't just the clubs and isn't necessarily solved by throwing more money at it. The players/agents are also wanting better deals/clubs. That is why a lot happens late on in the window as the domino effect kicks in and players can assess their options.

I see the window ending with ABK being released on a free on the final day, and immediately signing for someone else (a bit like Ryan Fraser did with us).

Aribo will be sold next week, my guess on a low, low fee.

Edozie will go for £5m to a team abroad.

The club can wait and wait for transfer fees to come their way but equally the longer we wait the more desperate you are to get rid as well as buy.

I can't see why Aribo would leave. I've nothing against him, but if reports that he's one of our top earners are correct then he's way overpaid. He won't be of interest to a Prem club and I doubt he wants a big pay cut to join a Scottish or Champ club.

Unless someone in Turkey or Saudi or wherever is keen, I think he'll stay.

The last couple of weeks have been atypical for us, we don’t seem to have signed another 17 yr old who might come good in 2030.

Guess we’re waiting to snap up the usual dregs.

And that, in a nutshell, is why for what seems like years and years now we are stuck with a bloated squad full of mediocre shite that is overpaid and nobody wants.

How much longer are we going to be caught in this groundhog day situation ffs ?

I’m almost at the point where I would rather we sign nobody than more deadwood.

Do we really need to sign our fourth choice target who will proceed to get 4 goals this season and then sit on the books until the decade’s end?

Seems Sunderland and Leeds got their deals done early, I knowthey are in the PL but it is so frustrating.

I feel the club did push their luck trying to get a bit more for TD and now that has left us hamstrung

Yep, round of applause for Sports Republic and a special mention to Ankerson who has been true to his word and "broke" it

Our scouting system seems to be asking Still if he's seen anyone in Ligue 1 that is okay, has two legs and is cheap, whilst pretending we're going for players who blatantly would never come and keeping all the shit ones we have already. I'm looking at YOU, Adam Armstrong

One view is that the club has strategised this window aligned with the playing side, attempting to learn from the season before last.  So, Spors and Still were aware that the stars worth serious money were likely to be picked off right up to window close, and the wantaway players would be agitating throughout.  Incoming players June / July had to be very low risk.  A matter of being competitive in the first cluster of games to absorb the disturbance of this - which to be fair Still has achieved so far.  The next fortnight was always going to be the period when the real business gets done for a club in Saints' odd position of being relegated after a humiliating season with £100-130m plus of desirable / saleable assets.  Best case scenario in the circumstances perhaps, but let's hope that this is the case - think it's going to be a very busy finale.

Glad we are at least trying to sign the kind of players who would improve what we have.
