You’ve probably never knowingly seen him play so you have no idea of his quality.

They’ve played at most 2 full games and you’ve made wild conclusions about their squad role this season.

Don’t judge people in charge of recruitment at the end of August.

I haven't made wild conclusions and I haven't judged people in charge of recruitment at the end of August. I've done neither of those things.

You’ve literally concluded Downs and Quashie will both be solid squad players but won’t play every week and stated Spors a couple of weeks to prove your doubts wrong. So yes, you have.

No I've said that at the moment I haven't seen anything from them yet that would make me think they are ready to come in and improve us immediately. When we brought the likes of Downes and THB in last time that's exactly what they did almost straight away. I actually said they could both come good but at the moment they aren't at that level, they are works in progress that may develop over time and be decent players. Of course Spors has a couple of weeks left of the window to bring in the required quality that I believe we need. I don't think it's unreasonable for supporters to have some doubts at the moment given the lack of incomings and outgoings. Those doubts may disappear when we bring in high quality signings over the next fortnight. I'm appraising the job that has been done up until this point, not writing him off because I've acknowledged there's still time in the window.

Yeah and I’m saying don’t judge him at the end of the window. Judge him when the season has panned out. Slagging him off at the end of the window because you don’t like the names we’ve signed is daft considering you’d have seen them play 4 times at most by then?

Like every single window when people bring these things up, it's perfectly reasonable to make an initial assessment on a window when it closes and then reappraise that assessment throughout the season. That's not writing off players. In general, when fans of other teams laugh and take the piss when we sign a player that's normally a bad sign. The other side of that is fans that are upset about losing a player is normally an indication that a player is more likely than not to be a success. That's certainly been my experience when looking at potential signings. If you'd employed your logic last year, you'd be unable to criticise the largely crap business in the summer window until we'd got to months in and no wins even though it was obvious to anyone with a brain that we had missed many of our targets and our overall business was lacking.

At the moment, Still has said he wants some new players with championship experience and if we manage to bring that in the next two weeks then that may be an improvement. Similarly if we manage to get some of these bigger name signings over the line then that might improve our squad overall. Currently though I am entirely free to comment on a window whilst it's happening and it's conclusion. Maybe Spors will pull it out of the bag in the next two weeks or maybe he will underwhelm me with some more solid but uninspiring signings who will then gel and smash the league. It's still not going to stop me from commenting on the window and it's not daft to do so.

"Shifting dead wood" and "PSR" having a strong showing on the treadmill of shitty transfer window excuses this year. But it's not too late for "just missing out on our top target", "being comfortable with the talent in the squad" and the old workhorse "unreasonable agents fees" to make a late run.

If our scouting has genuinely improved, we need to be finding players like Tanaka, Torp, Sakamoto, Wright, Van Ewijk, Bogle, Gruev etc. None of those cost big bucks, just well scouted and well suited players who slot straight into the team. No clever bollock kid signings, just ready-made starters.

If Coventry and Leeds can obtain those sorts in the Championship, then there's no reason why we can't.

Good point well made.

And don’t forget, we’re the only club in the world who have to pay agent fees.

He's trying his best: BBD

Ross Stewart (injury)

That seems a very odd transfer...it may be a decoy for the Armenian guy to make his mind up, or this may be instead of Rudoni.

Good point. Maybe Still has now had a chance to properly watch and evaluate Rudoni and said ‘hang on, we don’t need to spend £12m to get what he brings in this division’.

I guess we're into that stage of another 10/10 transfer window where we're scrambling around for some random journeymen who have done nothing in their careers to make up the numbers.

We were down at Christmas, so have had a good six months to plan this rebuild.

The rebuild can only start when we get rid of some of our players and of course not many of our targets want to come to St Marys

It is not easy to rebuild instantly

This really won’t do @trousers

Nobody can be happy least of all you at this kind of minimalist effort.

Your mission was to give Saintsweb contemporary and insightful sitting on the fence yet biting social commentary regarding the state of Southampton Football Club. And all you’ve got is “Could be Wurst”.
For you, the Forum is over.

It's got that feel to it but maybe Spors will do something to surprise us.
