I'd rather keep Edozie than waste money on Rak Saki. It's like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic except SR is rearranging the dead wood.

I usually don’t agree with you but I don’t see Rak Saki as a step up on Edozie and the price seems high considering he’s not especially proven.

I know its not going to happen but another vote from me to keep/use Edozie.

Honestly he was not half bad in the Championship season and he can start and wear out a full back or come off the bench and create 15 mins of chaos. I liked him.

If we went out and bought someone with his exact age/stats tomorrow I think most fans would be happy with it.

The Edozie / Fraser axis was deadly for a while.

Sadly we can't play with wingers at the moment, though, because we don't have the right kind of wingers.

What scenario would you be most happy with?

Scenario 1: Keep Matty and Edozie, Sign Rak-Sakyi and a CM (not a 10).
Scenario 2: Sell Matty and Edozie, Sign Rak-Sakyi, sign Tom Fellows and Fin Azaz.
Scenario 3: Sell Matty, Keep Edozie, sign Azaz, Tom Fellows and a striker.

Scenario 4: Sell Matty, Sell Edozie and sign Dele Alli, Jonathan Forte, Tommy Forecast and reappoint Eric Black.

Not sure about that. I'm leaning 3 as that would give us the best chance of promotion.

Which is ironic because we don’t have right kind of centre backs but we’re playing plenty of them.

Rumours at the QPR end of a bid for Ronnie Edwards, wouldn’t shock me, he’s clearly fifth choice centre back.

And they love him. Heard someone describing him as a real 'Rolls-Royce' of a defender when we signed him. It was a shame they were talking in terms of reliability.

Haven’t seen enough of Rak-Sakyi to have a view and not that bothered what he did on loan at Sheff Utd (see Kane’s multiple underwhelming loans before he became world class).

But if one of the many things we were lacking in the Prem was any physical presence is Rak-Sak seen as an upgrade on Edozie (and Sam Amo) on that score ?

The 1980's called - they want their joke back.

It would be ultimate peak SR to extend Jack Stephens and sell Ronnie Edwards.

We do have quite a few CB's, but he's one of the last I'd consider for dumping. Wood would come first.

He’s been more Hillman Imp tonight (the 1960s and 70s want their jokes back too).

Trying to think of a pun based on 'Allegro' now, it'll come to me.

Watched him for QPR vs Pomp last season.

Got completely bullied by Colby Bishop.

I just hope we can pay to get shot of Brereton Diaz.

Good lord he’s bad. Not even sure he’s good enough for Sunday league.
Did he really score goals at this level?

It deserved much Acclaim but others would say it was a load of old Dolomite.

Not the most Metro-politan of humour shown there.

I had high hopes for him this season after his loan, but so far he’s looked pretty crap.

You've got players like Archer, Stewart etc who are a bit low on confidence but you can still tell they are professional footballers. The same can't be said of BBD.

Scenario 3. But would leave us short in CM.

Yeah the falling over the ball leading to that one on one was very crap.

I still think he’s worth pursuing given the options we have. But he probably needs a run in a settled side. Whether he gets that is debatable

Let’s be honest Norwich were crap - once Downes stopped giving it away and others passed it better we looked a competent team.

We are crying out for pace and creativity in first 40 we got in so many good places but couldn’t find cross or pass.

Need a 10 badly

Here is another way to look at our squad to get a better picture of what we may need. Instead of just listing each player in one position (which can often be quite arbitrary for players who can play in a range of positions), I have tried to list every player who you might play in that position based on their historic and current positions. I have, however, ignored ridiculous experimental changes of role made by Russell Martin (e.g. Aribo playing as a CDM or CB!).

I have also included numbers for those who like to look at things in that way, but using predominantly British numbering  conventions. The numbers 7 and 8 are difficult to place in that system as their positioning has varied a lot over time.

Italics indicate those players that may leave (though I have assumed rather optimistically that we will now keep Fernandes!). This doesn't rule out others from leaving - I am definitely NOT ITK about this!!

Position

No.

Players who can play in this position

Goalie

1

Bazunu, McCarthy, Long, Moody

Right Back

2

Roerslev, Bree, Edwards

Left Back

3

Welington, Manning, Sesay, Taylor

CB

5,6

Harwood-Bellis, Wood, Edwards, Quarshie, Stephens, Taylor, Bella-Kotchap

CDM

4

Charles, Downes, Matsuki, Sesay

CM

7/8

Fernandes, Smallbone, Charles, Downes, Matsuki, Sesay, Aribo

AM

8/10

Fernandes, Fraser, Matsuki, Sesay, Aribo

Winger

7/8/11

Robinson, Fraser, Armstrong, Archer, Sesay, BBD, Edozie

Striker

9

Stewart, Downs, Archer, Armstrong, BBD

I accept that there is a fair degree of arbitration even in this approach, but I hope it is helpful for some.

I think it is interesting that the position where we most want to see improvement (wing) is one where we actually have a lot of options - contrary to what some people are suggesting. The reason for this is perhaps mostly to do with the type of wingers we want.

You will also note that I have listed Sesay in a lot of positions. This is based on his past where he started as a left winger, but was converted into a left back and has more recently been converted into a midfielder who can play in any of the midfield positions.
