Mateus has consistently been our best player,  but celebrating any player award, in this season of terrible performances, seems wrong.

Southampton FC supporters have been exceptional this season. So, instead of a player I’d give it to all Saints fans who watched Saints, home or away, especially the latter part of season when we were doomed. They have been excellent as the 12th man. At times the players did not deserve such support and our fans - good natured, loud and loyal, have been incredible.

Saints supporters are the worthy recipients of Player of the Season.

I can't see why anyone would wish to deny Fernandes that honour , irrespective of the teams performance. Not only has he been our best player, our most consistent player, who's head has never dropped and considering his tender age he's been phenomenal.

I went with Fernandes, never short of effort and passion, a bright spark in a miserable season. Hope he ends up somewhere where he can flourish next season.

I don't see myself downloading the Saints app just to vote. Everyone knows the saintsweb vote is the only one that really matters anyway.

In the context of the season you'd give it to nobody (and not even hold an end of season award thing), but above that I believe Fernandes deserves some recognition for the shift he's put in.

Class player, great signing, huge potential. The club almost doesn't deserve him.

I don't think it's appropriate to have any end of season awards, I'm shocked the club have even had the nerve to open a vote - tradition or not.

Yeah, we've had a couple of players who have been better than the rest, but we've got 12 points ffs.

If I was a player I wouldn't want an award on the back of this season, I'd be pretty embarrassed if I did get one. The club should sack it off and burn the memory of this season when the curtain comes down.

Plenty of people will pay top dollar to sit and have some food with a player who really would rather be somewhere else!

Fernandes is the only one who has consistently put in performances which belong in the PL. Ramsdale has more good games than bad but has let in a few goals he really shouldn’t be too pleased about. KWP likewise, he’s an okay PL player but has been suspect for his fair share of goals conceded.

Literally everyone else belongs in the Championship.

I was thinking along these lines about our goal of the season. Most seasons there are some beauties. I honestly can't think of even a really good goal.

Not touching the app... but it would be Ramsdale for me. The highest quality player we have, and without whom it could actually have been a lot worse.

I've been a little disappointed in him, been decent but hoped for more

Ramsdale. Without him, we would have broken the Dereby record, number of goals conceded record and much more shameful than now.

Fernandes aside, I agree with the sentiment to give it to no one. Nothing of this season deserves recognition or reward.

But for a kid in his first season at this level, in a foreign country, in a horrific team with different managers and their different insane ideas he’s done remarkably well.

Attitude in the circumstances is just as impressive as his performances have been. He deserves it.  Ramsdale is the best of the rest but this kid has been a shimmering fleck of gold in a stinking pile of sewage.

Good shout. You should start a thread “alternative awards” or something similar.

Fernandes by a mile. Quality and a great attitude. Rambo second. Can't vote though as the app is shite.

You can vote on the daily echo for their version

Sugawara vs Brentford. After gifting Newcastle the winner on opening day, then gifting Brentford two goals to go 3-0 down in the third match, Adam Lallana comes on in the 82nd minute and immediately looks a class above everyone else on the pitch. He combines with Tyler Dibling to set up the first goal of the season and give some hope that this side can score a few goals and maybe, if they stop gifting goals to the opposition, isn't entirely in over their heads. (Narrator: they were, in fact, in over their heads.)

That's the one that came to mind. Nice goal. Just a bit of a shame it stands out so much when there were 30 something games left!

Ramsdale hands down. Even when the team has given up, he has stood on his head to keep us in games or at least not embarrassed further.

Goal of the year? We have so many to choose from, it really is quite difficult, isn't it?
