The main reason he pulled out of the wolves talks is he preferred the proposition we were offering. Say what you like about SR, they talk a good game and have deep pockets, something wolves couldn’t match.

unless something goes badly wrong in the next 24 hours it’s a done deal

Wonder if the betting odds are based on MB's posts, and wondering if anybody checked the accuracy of previous posts....

if I recall correctly, the player did pull out on us at the very last moment?

Conversely, if you’re winning games fans won’t mind a bit of ‘keep ball’ as we saw with Martin…

Gary O'Neil's football is considerably worse than RMs.

If people hated RM's football, you're going to be apoplectic with GON.

I bet if you look back through the Will Still thread, many of us predicted success under him.

How many games until you throw your toys out the pram and come up with some hilarious meme 😂

Makes you wonder what the “senior players” will make of the appointment if Gary O’Neill became the new manager. 😂

I think Romeu will be ok with it.  As for the rest of them, I couldn’t give a fuck.

You get this mate on here sadly. Share some information and people are desperate for it to be wrong, i've had it for years which i's why i only post the occasional clue now and why other ITKs dont bother anymore and you can see why!

i can only think it's jealousy because they want to be the ones first with the news rather than showing any thanks to those close to the action. It's weird.

As far as I can see there hasn’t actually been any reports linking him to us? Just Charlie Austin saying that’s who he’d appoint. Bookies odds, we know are a snowball effect.

GON: ‘I was a Millwall fan as a kid, I used to love going to watch them, but as soon as you start playing you can no longer do that and it takes a big part of it away.

‘So I turned into a Pompey fan because I was there for so long and they treated me so well.

‘I didn’t really want to leave, so was always looking back at the results and sort of converted into a Pompey fan, so I’ll be down there as much as I can.

This was when he was 36 and injured without a club for context.

Gary O'Neil is not someone we should be pursuing let's be honest, it would be a similar context to when Cooper went to Leicester.

The fans never took to Cooper, and the first sign of any chink or a couple of bad results it turned toxic almost immediately. The same would happen here. He'd have no grace.

We'd be looking for another new manager in February.

SR need to read the room here - not former skates, and no kid managers.

And when you look at the shortlist there’s a lot on there that are not coming to us.

I’m resigned to Tonda being given a three year deal now, sadly.

It wouldn't ever be a 3 year deal, we'd do something like a contract until the end of the season.

But either way it would be bonkers.

Not true of all fans. There were a lot of people complaining about "crab football", the lack of attacking intent etc etc both in st Mary's and on here even when we were on the famous unbeaten run.

Some people are happy with results, others want entertainment - imagine a world where we get both!

This - makes my skin crawl thinking it would be the skate. One of the most hated managers is red crap - I wonder why that is eh? It won’t be Tonka either IMHO.

My issue with GON, apart from him being a skate, is that he comes across as an utterly thick c***, and as such I can't ever imagine him having any tactical nous or know how. At least Carrick comes across as someone with a brain cell or two.

We all know by now that Ankersen's self-proclaimed approach is to 'read the room' and then do the complete opposite, aka "if it ain't broke, consider breaking it"

Ergo, it's pretty much nailed on that O'Neil is top of the shortlist...

Regarding Gary O'Neil, I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed but maybe that's just me being fussy and having unrealistic expectations considering where we currently are.

I don't really know alot about him so won't pretend he is shit or plays boring football.

However if he comes in and improves the standards and instills a more positive mentality and we push up the table, what isn't to like......

Has premier league experience.....

I don't think we can afford to piss about and turn out noses up....

Gary O’Neil joins Bournemouth after that 9-0 defeat to Liverpool and looking dead certs to finish bottom. He kept them up and was swapped out for a huge upgrade, doesn’t mean he didn’t do a good job though.

He then kept Wolves up when it looked like it might be their turn, finishing 14th. Next season though they were playing awful footy and he was sacked. They had sold more key players but he still had Cunha playing out of his skin.

Although only 30%ish win rate, for struggling PL teams you can see he was quite effective, he did keep both sides up in those first seasons.

Saints are 19th in the championship. It’s not that the calibre of this appointment isn’t good enough (we have failed to find a manager that can keep us up after many attempts and 2 relegations), it’s more that those Portsmouth links will give him very little time to make it work and as a manager he doesn’t have Championship promotion experience.

if he did join and get us into the playoffs and winning at Fratton in January, we would all forget the link. If he started slowly we would have the toxic situation yet again. It’s a gamble.

Have to see what Lord D comes up with, 'Legohead' caught on but 'Weasley' didn't have time to get going.

Final nail in the SR coffin if they appoint O’Neil imo.

From a footballing perspective I think he actually would suit us and would be a decent appointment, but most (including me) will struggle to see past him Pompey connections. Essentially he’ll need to out perform any other appointment by 10% for  the vast majority to be onboard. And he’ll need to do it instantly.

However, on the face of it a pretty solid option for a championship side looking to steady the ship. I’m assuming Stephen’s would have played under him for a short period at Bournemouth.

I really dont understand why GON would be good for us. Like others have said he needs to be good very quickly otherwise he will lose the fans (agent Oniel type stuff will come out). And he does not stand out among many on that list for me. Move on....please SR.

He also got busted (internally, not made public) for getting it on with my mates Mrs, whist he was manager at AFCB and she worked there! So I must admit... that and the fact he's a Skate really does put me off! Not sure I could bring myself to chant his name! 😂

How far have we slipped that many on here seem content with Gary fucking O'Neil?!

http://www.molineuxmix.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/gon-yes-or-no.763990/

"He played some good attacking football with far better players, but his inability to organise the defence isn't going to change not to mention how poor we were set up at corners."

"God no. O'Neil had this level of run with a side that also contained Lemina, Semedo, Ait-Nouri, Cunha and Sarabia amongst others. With a far weaker squad now we'll sink without trace"

"He was sacked less than 12 months ago for a toxic situation with a better squad."

etc. etc.

Gary O’Neil is bottom of the bargain bin as far as I’m concerned.

This plus the revelation that Rasmus is still meddling should be fuel enough for protests

If SR appoint GON, it will confirm what many of us fear: that all the talk about the club being “nothing without the fans” is lip service. Appointing him - despite the Pompey context, which they either don’t understand or choose to dismiss - would be a glaring sign of leadership that is out of its depth and acting in spite of its own supporters. I’ve tried to give Dragan the benefit of the doubt; he has invested heavily and taken losses. But this decision ultimately rests with him. If he allows Spors to proceed with appointing him, it will - judging by feeling on here and my Saints supporting friends - be the final break in any remaining goodwill toward the board and Dragan in particular. I don’t think they grasp quite how monumental a fuck up this would be.

We got to be realistic, who is going to want it? We're a basket case, crap owners, 2 relegations in 3 seasons, almost the worst team ever, appears like a bunch of wankers for players, more likely to get another relegation than promotion but pre season expectations to win the league!! Will Still had a great reputation before he came he and it's shot to bits now inside 3 months. Whoever we appoint is going to be someone a lot of fans will be finding fault with, or saying things like "how far we've fallen" Well guess what, we have and the sort of manager we will attract is going to be the sort of manager a team that has fallen as far as us will get. Gary O'Neil, Micheal Carrick wont be anyones first choice but will we get any better?

There wasn't anything fundamentally wrong with Juric as a manger, he has more credentials than any we had before him. He's a strong defensive manager and has proven that again at Atalanta this season as they've only conceded 8 goals so far - lots of draws, but they hardly let any in.

The idea for a guy like him made sense, but the club wholly misunderstood the level of player we had - as we've seen this season as well, we don't have good defenders - so Juric was always on a hiding to nothing, given that his approach is built around solidity, structure and pace on the break. He was probably the only manager who got a song out of Sullemana.

If SR are set on a continental coach i would take a good long look at Vasco Matos at Santa Clara (great football and has worked miracles in Portugal on zero money). Then, move heaven and earth to get Fonte in as his number two. Doubt they are looking at him, but that pairing would work very well at SFC, particularly with Romeu on the pitch.

Nope we bought all the wrong players. Exciting looking on paper but the team had no core.
