I would say the Armstrong from 2yrs ago in our promotion season would of scored a lot more goals this season than the current version.

I think he's on the dip and his loan at wba showed he's not this goal scoring messiah in the championship, he was, but he's not anymore.

He has what 11 goals, I'd say he should be up nearer to 16/17 with some of the chances he's missed.

He played on the wing two years ago and now he's playing up front. He was rubbish up front two years ago too. There's no way you can compare the two

Well done Sports Republic for making this the most boring uninspiring and pointless chapter in recent years for Southampton. Seriously well done. 👏🏻

Exactly.

We've been pretty crap but one highlight is we have a consistent Championship level top 5 scorer in our team.

I'm not always his biggest fan , we all know his weaknesses,  chances missed, runs without scoring , but he such a decent all round attacker.

I think lots of fans may regret wishing him gone.

We just need to sign a fit version of Ross Stewart and shift out Archer...this is the common sense move for me.

4-2-3-1.

Either Stewart or new big guy as the 1.

Azaz centre of the 3 with either Scienza, Armstrong,  Fellows or Robinson in the wide positions.

Or 4-3-3.

Drop Azaz. Play Charles,  Downes, Jander or Bragg in the 3.

New big fella or Stewart with two wide men ... Scienza, Fellows , Armstrong or Robinson .

Are we a team trying to get back to the Prem League though? You wouldn’t buy a 7m German 2 striker say he wouldn’t be loaned out without a replacement- he was - potentially now selling our and leagues top scorer without a replacement in the club.

Would appointing a 32year old manager without experience also look like going for promotion?

I wouldn’t trust SR with 50p

Well since you put it like this, It's madness isn't it 🤣

Absolute fucking clowns at the helm, it's embarrassing like so dogshit and amatuer.......

Surely they must realise how stupid they have been?

Didnt Spors and whoever else try to suggest that Downes was this sort of player and would score loads? SR simply can’t be trusted and have pretty much lost the fanbase

Well this guy is a centre back not a centre forward, and has played a grand total of 5 games in men’s football.

I’d suggest if we really need a centre back, this is not what we need!

another SR project.

I don’t think they do - the balance sheet must look good and if can get rid of Aribo/Ezodie the wage bill looks so good for them. Forgetting like Lowe did the main thing at club should be the players on the pitch get that right money flows in

that wasn't the prose of my observation, it was Armstrong v Armstrong and his waning powers.

I would also point out he's scored 1 pen but missed 2 this season.

I for one am Les Reed-relaxed at the prospect of SR recruiting replacements for our leading scorer.

Hope Armstrong is sold off very soon.

Only got to see from the Pompey game it’s all about him. Bad in the changing room with the few others that are getting binned off.

Oh, so that's all good then.

They have a brilliant record in scouting goalscorers.

Dipepa - Aug 24

Macleod - Aug 24 (Loan)

Udoh - Feb 25

Takaoka - March 25

Downs - July 25

That's it from what I can tell.

Tells us all we need to know about SR's prowess in finding a decent striker.

Striker record under SR is pretty grim LeG, lets be honest.

BBD, Mara (after chasing Gakpo all summer), Stewart, Archer, Onuachu...

And you know, i'd be tempted to give Spors some credit in the bank re transfers/recruitment, except the one striker he signed was Downs... Plus he sold Ballard who is now top scorer in League 1 and exactly the kind of young striker we should have on the books.

Regardless of confidence (if any?) in us signing a good replacement under SR, whoever it is needs to come straight into the side and click at least as well as AA does with the likes of Azaz, Scienza, Fellows etc.... We aren't just asking for any old striker, they need to come in an immediatley do better than the current joint 2nd highest scorer in the league.

I’ve seen one fan make that suggestion, but no more than that.

I imagine Adam Armstrong will be in tomorrows squad but on the bench, if he isn’t then you’d almost have to say he’s gone.

That feels like a temporary Armstrong replacement not strike partner.

My guess is if Armstrong stays, we won't be signing another striker in this window.

It is early in the day (my excuse) ... but just googled Isaw Nketia. Closest match is the Ghanaian politician known as General Mosquito. Should create a buzz in the opposition box.

Perhaps other strikers were not interested in coming to Southampton

Apart from an injured Ings we have not signed a decent striker when we have been in the PL for over twenty years except when Koemann was the manager

We are unlikely to recriut a manager of his standing in the foreseeable future and as a club which is on the downit  is not a place where top class players want to  play except for youngsters who are not certain to develop into PL players

The club have been in a decline since Puel was sacked not helped by the lack of investment by our Chinese owner.who could not release any money

That's another argument against the Sport Republic manager recruitment philosophy. You want your manager to be part of the reason that players want to come to the club so you need someone with enough stature that players will want to work with them. And you want players to have the confidence that that manager is still going to be there in a few months.

100% this. I rarely go to games now as despite always supporting my home town club when it comes to spending money on entertainment you have to get something in return. I’d like to say I’m being facetious by saying we are usually lucky to see a goal or perhaps even a shot (never mind a win at home against a weak opponent!) but I’m not. Let that sink in, we are lucky to see one measly goal and it’s been like this for 2 seasons.

However, I went to the Sheffield Inited game because a mate was offered free tickets. Yes that’s right, the club rang up where he works and said he could have as many free tickets as he wanted. I can only assume it was to make the stadium look more full. So there is some news for all of you, they are begging people to take free tickets.

I was absolutely flabbergasted by the amount of people in the fan zone, buying overpriced food all game up and down the stairs, drinking pints in plastic cups out in the cold when they could be in a warm pub. The fanzine and bar was even open after the game which was boring as hell and there were still people hanging around and giving money to the club. What hope have we got with getting Sport Republic out with these absolute morons we have in our fanbase. We haven’t had an ounce of fun or entertainment in years and these happy clapping seals still turn up and empty out their pockets for nothing in return. Until this stops the misery is going to continue and Sport Republic are going no where.

So You’re flabbergasted at fans who spend money on tickets and merchandise to support the club, while you complain about the lack of club spending, don’t attend games, only accepts free tickets and you’re shocked people are spending money to support the club?

I don’t think you know what “Support” means, happy that you’re staying away, the club doesn’t need you

It's not always the case with the manager. I'm friends with a recently retired ex pro who had a pretty solid career, he mentioned in the past he moved clubs simply because he wanted to live in a certain area, or that the move would put him in the shop window more than the current club he played for. I think the influence of the manager is less so than it was 10, 20 or 30 years ago, especially as most barely last a couple of seasons.

Eddie is just what we need:

Physical - 5ft 8in and 10 stone;

Scores goals for fun in this league - 3 in 17 last time for Leeds;

Intelligent player with a keen eye for goal - reinforced by him wearing coke bottle glasses after matches.

Nobody decent is going to be coming to a middling Championship team with rumours of discontent within the building. Much more likely to be seeing clubs with ambition and money arriving waving cheque books for any talent lurking at Saints.

We're here for years to come in my opinion. Sad but much more likely than getting even close to the Prem.
