He seems to be the current scapegoat on here and getting the blame for our losses. The poor defence seem to get off very lightly. In my opinion he is not as poor as others make out and has earned us a few points this season starting with the save to stop Wrexham going two up at the start. Since Russell Martin came in and tried to play Pep Gaurdiola football, with players that were not good enough this club has gone downhill, again in my opinion. 2

I've seen plenty of criticism of the defence. If Bazunu didn't continually let in shots he should be saving I think he'd get a lot more praise than criticism. As we've been waiting four years for this to happen I think the chances are that it isn't going to. 10

Miltonaggro Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Club been tracking Peretz since November (I mentioned it on the transfer thread at the time, same source as Romeu tip in the summer). He was MTA first team keeper at 20 and the big transfer to Bayern came after he had starred in two championship / European campaigns for them. He is a big unit and a traditional ‘all round’ goalkeeper, who commands his area. Fans will notice this difference immediately. Clips I’ve seen he looks rather like a less erratic / mental Boruc. There will be ring rust but he is easily considerably better than Quavers wrists or Methuselah. Pray he hits the ground running and stays fit. 10
DT Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I hope he is not shit. But no-one can be as shit as Bazunu. Therefore happy with this signing. No need 10 more players. And a manager. 1

Saint Fan CaM Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Have it on good authority that SR have pulled off a massive, massive coup with this transfer. Rasmus Ankerson commented when pressed: “We’ve brought Danny into the squad to allow Baz to get up front and utilise his aerial ability as a true centre forward following his previous success in the role. This is the Southampton way”. How can you argue with THAT! Disclaimer - ‘good authority’ means the wife’s hairdressers aunties cat.

I suggest you go back and read the Stephens thread when it was announced he was getting a new contract in the summer! Similarly check out the Manning thread. Basically, no one is immune in that backline as they've all been fairly horrific for quite some time now. Bazunu is highlighted more because of how glaring it is, his mistakes/lack of ability lead to us losing games more often than not - so he's obviously going to be highlighted. A defender can make a mistake, but the GK is still the last line of the defence - yet we have a GK who can't make saves. He really isn't any good, stats or no stats, I've also seen him with my own eyes and I can tell you he's the worst GK we've ever had playing for us in my lifetime. 6

Let’s test this statement objectively: - Nathan Wood, told fans near the tunnel to f- off after getting stick - Jack Stephens - whole entire 20-30 pages of disgust (rightly) on that moronic contract extension. Also jeered when brought on as a sub at Blackburn. - THB has had loads - Manning loads of justified stick for being lazy, no effort to stop crosses and away end gave him hell for not playing to the whistle and unprofessional at Derby. Bazunu is on probably high end Champ wages but wouldn’t get a game at Cheltenham Town my local L2 club. Bottom of every statistics and performance table every season he’s played for us and a disaster loan at Standard Liege. Stealing a living. Dexter Blackstock looked more convincing as an emergency goalie at Newcastle in the FA Cup. Edited 15 hours ago by Gloucester Saint 5

Chez Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago It's unusual for us to bring in a player where we have enough bodies already, so does that mean Long's season long loan will be cut short or will we just run with four first team keepers?

I don't think they're going to cut short Long's loan. In many ways he's the model Sports Republic signing. Brought in to have around the place on the cheap and never play or offer competition. Other clubs must envy our ability to scout and attract squad filler.

To be fair most clubs have a third choice keeper who is just squad filler. It's not some Sport Republic thing. I don't quite get the grief about Long. He was brought in for a very specific set of criteria, being cheap one of them. I would think we will move on McCarthy or Bazunu to another club. McCarthy is towars the end of the contract and probably a perfect candidate for the third choice dossing about role at a Prem club. 1

It was more a dig at Sport Republic who are adept at signings players who aren't going to make the first team. Plus the fatalism that even if they do replace Baz and McCarthy that we may wind up in a worse spot.

What should've happened, is we sign a new number 1 last summer, and then Baz and McCarthy got bumped down the pecking order. Instead, we signed aomeone on the cheap who provides no competition. 1

This third choice, non playing goalkeeper isnt exactly a new thing though is it. We’ve had Stuart Taylor, Willy Callero and Joe Lumley in this cushy role for the last 10 years or so. ir was pretty clear they were backing Baz this season and thought he was “fine for the championship” with Ramsdale still officially a saints player signing a goalkeeper permanently as number 1 was never really going to happen. Mccarthy will probably leave as he’s out of contract in the summer and Baz and the new guy will fight out for number one. They’ll be desperate to get Ramsdale off the payroll in the summer so we will 100% bring a new glovesman in and a new third choice as well. Which I’m sure there shall be another meltdown about. The Kraken Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) When we were in the Prem, AMc’s wages were rumoured to be up around £50k per week. Bazunu a good deal lower. Dont know how much they came down after relegation but you’d suggest that a championship club can’t really sustain either of those levels on a third choice keeper who won’t be expected to play a single game. If this new lad Peretz comes straight into the side, I’d err more on the side of Baz going out on loan rather than AMc. If Baz is usurped he’ll take that as a sign that he hasn’t got a long term future here. As said, AMc is out if contract come summer so likely already planning his next move then while coining some bank up to that point. Edited 4 hours ago by The Kraken 1

Bazunu and McCarthy are not third choice keepers for a Championship club. If nothing else we can't afford them to be. They would not ever have been "bumped down the pecking order". If we had any intention of buying a first choice front line keeper in the summer then Bazunu or McCarthy would have been shipped out. I expect one of them to be shipped out now. 1
