He just seems to be such a problem for CB's. Yep agree. It wasn't his best BUT you could see the effort and willingness. And before the goal, to take advantage of thier slow pass was excellent. Other teams have done it to Saints numerous times over the years, so nice to see the opposite! The goal was cracking too. 2
inspectorfrost Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Works hard as well Loved that moment in the 1st half when he chased down a lost cause towards the touchline and won us a free kick in a dangerous attacking position. Impressive goal, when he gets going he has got some pace. Just a constant nuisance for defenders, hope we can keep hold of him 2
Sheaf Saint Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago His finish last night was reminiscent of Shlong's in the semi final at Anfield. Great goal.
Give it to Ron Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I have to admit that his goal surprised me in his pace and finish didn’t realise he had that ability. Loved that goal. 1
bobby_charles Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) Really couldn't understand the stick he was getting in the match thread, in my eyes he did everything he was bought into the side to do, hold up the ball allow us to break through the lines. Can't blame him for being manhandled with no consequences and the goal was a peach. Also the header was delightful shame we decided to play crossbar challenge but hey ho, onwards! saintant Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago He was really unlucky with the header that hit the bar. If that is a couple of inches lower it's up there with some of the great Ron Davies headed goals. 1

So often you see players get a great header chance and they just hit it straight at the keeper. But that one last night that hit the bar, and his late equaliser at WBA recently, show he puts a lot of thought and skill into them. Edited 9 hours ago by Sheaf Saint
kitch Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I've never been able to figure out if he's fast or not, but last night showed me that he's like a train: Takes a while to get going, but once he's at full tilt there's not much nearby that will be faster.

I was shocked, i expected him to get caught and try and get fouled but his pace and finish was class. As others have said his header was good and his turn and volley drew a good save. 5 goals so far plus his all round play have been good. Can be frustrating at times but been a very good find, a lot of us were critical when he signed but he's proved us wrong. 5

I can't be bothered to go back and look for the posts, but there was some extreme bedwetting from a few posters. Admittedly he didn't have the greatest track record or pedigree, but it goes to show the importance of having the right profile of player in that position.
saintant Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Like every other player at the club his performances have improved largely due to excellent coaching led by Tonda Eckert. Is there a single player at the club who has regressed since he took the reigns? I can't think of anyone.
BARCELONASAINT Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I must admit that I was absolutely baffled when we took him in loan. His parent club Mallorca could not get him out of the door quick enough and i had never seen him do anything of note when he did play for them...and i watch a lot of Spanish football. However i absolutely love the bloke because he gives everything and has done since day one. Total credit to the Saints staff who have been working with him to get his fitness levels up and Tonda that asks him to play a certain way. He really is fast becoming a bit of a cult hero. 3

Hawkswood Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago So question for you all. If we go up do you think hes good enough for premier league ?
bangkoksaint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Just now, Hawkswood said: So question for you all. If we go up do you think hes good enough for premier league ? No sadly I dont. I love what he gives but is there extra impetus in his play due to the WC? If he fires us to the PL and then leaves he'll remain a legend!! 1
Saint NL Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I flicked through the Wrexham forum and several of their posters reckon that's the biggest battering their CBs have had all season. They're hoping to sign Larin next season when we go up 😂

If we went up we need another striker but I would sign him as back up and extend Stewart’s contract for another year if he is willing to agree to it. There will be cup games we can utilise Larin and Stewart in. Good backups Also you never know he might take to the PL. we have an option to buy

You know this isn’t FIFA and players are generally as quick as each other in each division? Clearly the prem players on average are quicker but they aren’t all Olympic sprinters. Also as a point in reference, he ran away from Fulham’s back 4 on numerous occasions at Craven Cottage. I’d snap him up for the premier league 100%

Would he score 15 goals in a season? Probably not. But could he contribute something as a squad player? I would say "yes", given we don't exactly have loads of options. If we go up, I would try and sign him and Stewart on two year deals and try to sign one other high quality forward longer term. One really strong CF, CM and CB to be priorities, to supplement what we've got, and a full back or two.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Lots of hurdles to jump before we can even think of being in the prem next year. However, if we do go up we must not make the same mistake as last time, mainly sticking with the squad that got us promotion. He is already at least a half legend for me but a big no for the prem unless he fulfils a squad role

I'm quietly confident that a few astute signings will give us a decent chance of competing - we've already beaten Fulham and Arsenal by playing a good brand of football.

There were 3 issues last time - keeping too many of the promoted squad who weren’t good enough, buying in a load of junk and sticking to russball. So I agree the outlook would be better than last time Edited 2 hours ago by Golac's Cunning Stunts

He’s adding a valuable contribution on loan in the Championship but let’s not let our erections get too hard about him.

The likes of Tadanari Lee and Lee Barnard were good championship servants but not good enough for the prem.

We still have Stewart as long as he stays fit, and it looks like we will keep Archer. Larin wants to get to the Canadian squad for the WC so however bad his form has been, we can at least hope he gives his all. I'll give him a few games before judging him! He's also got experience and has shown in the past he can score goals at a reasonable level. It's for 6 months, I'd rather we spent our money in the summer having properly scouted someone (over to you SR, better than Downs please, we know you CAN spot gems) than panicked and did it now. Our January signings have rarely ever been much to write home about. I've given him a few games and now I can judge him. I like him. I like him a lot. Pace, strength, eye for goal, decent in the air and on the ground. Not perfect but this is the Championship and I think he's a very good Championship player. Much as Ross is when he's fit. It's a shame Archer isn't showing his nippy, early career form as then we'd have three good strikers fighting it out.

But I don't remember Che taking the ball off a player on the half way line, running with it and belting it in to the goal. Absolutely fantastic.
