He doesn't want to leave. He is committed to being back, this is not a rumour this is as reported in the Belfast Telegraph after Norn Iron's last home game.

Players are very good at getting those kind of messages out there.

"I didn't want to leave but the club got an offer they couldn't turn down"

There's a long way between "don't want to leave" and "I am definitely signing a new contract at a Champ club when Prem offers are right there".

Saying you don't want to leave also preserves loyalty bonuses and potentially other monetary benefits.

So dont get excited by "it's not a rumour". That's not quite the same thing as the reality of situations.

Not a fan of Ankersen by any means, but not sure this is on him. Wasn’t Charles during the Shields period ? (Although may still have been negotiated by Rasmus),

Trouble is in securing the young players from City and Chelsea, the sell on is part of the deal, and they probably won’t look at selling without. It also makes the deal more affordable for us, and ‘transfers’ some of the risk involved.

Probably a case that without the sell on clause, we don’t get to see the Lavias, Charles, and Livramentos in the first place.

Jason Wilcox. Charles signed under Russell Martin first time round in the champ.

Josh Mulligan, a 5’9” midget; no thanks.  Much rather have David Ozoh from Palace: younger, taller (over 6’) and better; he did well on loan at Derby last year and I doubt that Palace regard him as good enough for the EPL yet.  If Charles looks likely to leave we should get Ozoh.

Lionel Messi. Tiny. So shit.

He needs to sign a contract then.  The club aren’t going to let him run his contract down.

It's a very familiar situation. There is no reason for him to sign a new deal as his career is going upwards not downwards, so he holds all the cards and like you say, the club don't want to see him walk on a free so have to maximise their return by offloading now. However, he could help us get promoted, which obviously has massive financial implications, so he'll only go if a decent offer comes. He's a talented player, so there will be interest.

If he’s not signing a new contract then it would suit all parties. In addition to a Fernandes sell on fee, and Ramsdale departure that would be a decent start to addressing PSR.

Sugawara having a good WC might get a bonus larger fee as well.

All true and well put. The difficult thing for us is that we will have trouble replacing someone of his ability and 'embeddedness' for £20m. But that's football, I guess. Better to take that now rather than risk losing him for free. Hope we play reasonably hard ball - take a leaf out of Brighton's book

And of course he may actually want to stay but we want to sell for the right price. We need to make sales and he is one that can give us the most amount of cash for the smallest hit to the team.

We won't be replacing him for 20 million. Likely 5-7 million and use the rest for finances.

As well as a Scottish Saint I am also a big Dundee fan, who Mulligan played for before moving to Hibs last summer. I, along with many other Dees was gutted he moved on, for a development fee.

Mulligan was a fantastic player in the middle of the park for us and has the potential to go to the top. Ive watched him a bit since his move and he's kicked on, hence the interest in him at Championship level. He would be a very good signing for us if we could get him.

Incidentally, I wish Saints would show an interest in our young CB, Luke Graham. He's another destined for a great career. Steal him from under the nose of both The Skates and The Rangers who both have more than a passing interest....

If he doesn't want to sign a contract get as much money as we can and onwards....

If Leeds want him maybe they can allow us to talk to Piroe or Joe Gelhardt.

In terms of " Embeddedness" we just have to move one CM on hopefully, leaving three established and a new signing to integrate, so that would be fine. Depends if Jander is pushing hard for a move though.

Are you saying then that Shea will be staying? We've got the option to extend his contract by one year.

I'm not saying anything, I'm not in the know, just recognising what he is reported to have said in a well respected news paper with no axe to grind. Shea is highly thought of in Northern Ireland (where I have "contacts") and deserves a bit more respect here from some of our "so-called" fans, bit like Ross Stewart. Shea was not treated the best last season (24/25) though shipping him out to Wednesday may have actually done him the world of good,  so perhaps he isn't best inclined to stay with us, but he is certainly looking at being back for pre-season.

What sort of player is he? I've never heard of him and i expect most others havent either, even though some of the hipsters will pretend they've been tracking him since he was 14

Lionel Messi. Çok ufak tefek. Çok kötü.

Messi is a very rare case—a player from the old school of football. He is not a central midfielder. Short players represent a risk regarding both success and resale value. Messi played for teams with unlimited budgets; for clubs with limited budgets, signing short players is a luxury.

How about Maradona? Even smaller than Messi. Out-jumping a goalkeeper at least half a foot taller than him.

He should probably learn to walk before trying to run he was a basically a squad player for us yes he featured quite a bit but he was behind downes and jander and most would agree those two was our best line up .

I remember us having a very small and physically weak squad only 4-5 seasons ago. Men vs boys most weeks.

whilst I agree about having big strong athletic midfielders, last season we played a few sides with combatativeshort midfielders who did well, Morris at Boro being an example

We need height and presence in the side but as you say it’s not always the same thing as physicality. Morris is a good example as is someone like McGinn at Villa - pint sized but he’s a nightmare to knock off the ball. Physical centre mid with height elsewhere in the side works for me.

Very much a box to box midfielder who is strong in the tackle and can pick out a pass to start an attack. If I remember correctly he scored rough 4-5 goals for us in about 100 games so not a goalscoring midfielder. He was a regular for Scotland U21's whilst a Dee and was brought into a Scotland squad last season while at Hibs, although didn't play. It is only a matter of time i think before he wins a full cap.

Our previous manager, Tony Docherty, underused him, preferring Lyall Cameron who went to Rangers last season. It's clear who's career path is on the up and who's potentially is about to stall!!!

Wolves are apparently looking to sign Che Adams.
Him and Arma joint striking force against us next season???

Their wage bill is not reducing much with Jimenez and potentially Che, who is allegedly on £55k p/w at Torino.

We seem to have neglected the Scottish market for a while and should look to tap into it more.  The two players you mention would seem good options, and probably decent fees. Although i expect both might end up at Old Firm clubs.

Perhaps the club are just a bit wary given Shankly's comments years ago.

"f you've got three Scots in your team, you've got a chance of winning something. Any more and you've got trouble."

Would be good to bring in a Dundee CB, last one I recall was Jim Steele, good player and probably living up to part of the Shankly stereotype.

There are a few players worth a look up here who definitely could hold their own in The Championship and progress to the level of John McGinn in the Premiership. Our young CB Graham will go to the top. Excellent in the air, outstanding reading of the game in front of him, assured with his passing and very calm.....I sound like his agent 🤣🤣🤣 (I'm not) He has another 12 months on his contract and I hear roughly 40 clubs across Europe are interested. Going to The Rangers would ruin him and going to the skates.....well unforgivable 🤦

I thought after playing most games for Wermer Bremen last season they might take him off our hands. No such luck.

I'm hoping Charles stays. That midfield 4 of CMs proved top notch in the second half of the season and were needed.

However finances probably dictate and one will need to leave which will be a shame.

On paper I can’t say mulligan appeals hugely. No goals in 41 games last season.

Still hoping we triggered the extra year for Charles and manage to keep hold of him.

Triggered the extra year so we got a bigger fee.
