I reckon it is. The quotes from Dragan were clearly referring to THB and Adam Blackmore has essentially said he's off.

Has he?

I mean really?

I’ve seen no quote even referencing that he’s off.

Only that Dragan Solak has said every player has a price and if an offer comes that is fair for the development of the player and the club we will consider it.

Would they have taken Downs in exchange?!

Not sure we'd allow that. Downs is a full international 😉

Incorrect.

Yeah he pretty much said that it's very difficult for us to keep players who are well into their contracts (clearly referring to THB and Charles). Both will go.

Then said we've got more leverage with the other players due to just having bought them (presuming Scienza and Jander)

Yep. Clear we need to sell more than one player and quite clear who he was referring to. If we are to sell Scienza or Jander then we will look to extract the maximum amount whilst those who have been here longer Charles and thb- are more likely to be sold.

Will be gutted if / when THB goes. One of my fav Saints players in recent seasons and he was class last season. Needs to be playing in the prem to grow now though really and he’ll be aiming for the Euros squad in 2 years. There for the taking IMO.

I agree, would be a huge loss for us and has real potential, like Fernandes where West Ham doubled their money in one season i see THB value going a similar way

Shame Newcastle spent their GK budget on that French lad, could have done with them chucking us £20M for Ramsdale

The thing is I am struggling to see who is going to put down the sort of fee we would want for THB. Maybe Leeds now they have sold Strujk? I expect we value him pretty highly and I would be curious if anybody in the prem is willing to match it as he’s not yet proven himself in the prem so represents a modest risk - fwiw I think he is more than capable of playing at that level.

If he does go it will be interesting to see how we replace him. It will be tough to replicate his leadership and experience as much as the playing ability. Hoping Spors can pull a European rabbit out of the hat.

What would the asking price be for THB ? 30 million minimum ?

I expect so. 25-30 up front with lots of add ons would be my best guess.

Think this is the key to it. Brighton were obviously looking for a centre half and yet THB was not seemingly under consideration for them. As you say, Leeds maybe will look at him now, but it does seem he is still tainted by that shocking Premier League season.

I think we probably would have sold THB last summer if a decent offer came in but doesn't seem like anything did.  I'm not sure we can expect anyone to bid more than last summer given he has a year less left on his contract and all he's done last season is prove he's a very good championship player (which he'd already done anyway).

Dan Neil was in talks over a free transfer to Southampton last week & looked to have opted for Saints, but things changed significantly over the last 48 hours & Rangers have swooped #saintsfc @SkySports_Keith

U-turned and decided to sign for Rangers instead… ah well, don’t want people who don’t want to be here enough. European football and closer to home in South Shields, fair enough I suppose

I wonder if the uncertainty over the manager situation has any bearing on possible transfer dealings? Does who the manager is/going to be make any difference?

Didn’t seem to worry Larin or Peretz

With only 2 years left on his contract I think £20m is about as much as we could expect.

By the way I'm sure if anyone offered £15m for Ramsdale then we would gladly move him on

Or we've got someone better lined up?

It's not like we don't have a manager or won't be one of the biggest clubs in the Championship next season. I'm sure Neil would be a good player in Scotland, but was decidely average last season for Ipswich (worse than any of our current midfield options) so not sure we should feel we've particularly missed out.

Look at it this way.

Boyhood Sunderland player.
Shipped out on loan after promotion, didn’t play much.
Released.

He’s the northern equivalent of Will Smallbone.

Not worth getting worked up about, and potentially a waste of money dodged.

I thought we were told there was no way on earth any Scottish team could offer any player a beater deal that we could?

Bad business if we let Bristol City sign Ballard when we can pick him up for a 22% discount. He could absolutely do a job for us this season.

Could he? We play with one up top and they need to be someone to play up to and off of

Adam Armstrong couldn’t hack that role despite having a better scoring record and more physicality than Ballard

People need to pump the brakes on Ballard a bit I feel

Clearly a good player but the feedback from Sunderland and Ipswich fans about lack of physicality was a concern. We’ve just offloaded Smallbone as he is too lightweight to compete in a central two so bringing in someone where that might have repeated itself might not have been the right move.

Good luck to Dan at Rangers though, good move for him and them.

Assuming we were actually interested in first place. Was only some Sky journalist who said we were. It’s silly season, stories will come out to push the actual interested club into action.

PL teams that watch his PL tape are going to be reluctant to spend £30m on his I'd of thought. Perhaps he has improved over the last year (not sure) but a player from oversees might be a more attractive option, assuming their scouting is half decent.

Just an idle thought but maybe he realised he wasn't going to get much game time given we have 4 good players in his position(s). Maybe he was sold a situation which has now changed.

I was going to say the same. Public Saints link immediately proceeded signing a contract with the original suitor. What a surprise.

Wasn't convinced by him to be honest. I'm hoping we can find someone better.

Agreed. We don't need a small forward, we need a Stewart replacement. Big, string, pacey and scores goals.

£20m with a sizeable sell on clause maybe? I think we will be reluctant to sell for that because its hard to attract talent whilst in the championship. We did a great job last season, but are there any other gems left in our director of football's little black book?

‘Doing a job’ for someone isn’t a move Ballard should be making given he’s just had his first season as a regular starter. If you assume he’ll be an Archer replacement then those minutes Archer got last season shouldn’t be appealing to him.

Think people need to get over him, tidy player but was clearly the right move for everyone when it happened and don’t really see the appeal for either side to jump back in immediately at the first sign of success. Let him flourish elsewhere, it’s okay.

Maybe, having already been let go by 2 clubs that got promoted, he didn't want to risk it again ?
