Haven't seen that. If he is for sale then we should be all over it 🤷

Quick search and its Sporting so not sure we would have a chance anyway. If the link is true.

Personally I’d have offered him a two year deal, think we’ll regret this one. Him and Larin were great for one another. On multiple occasions one would be having a bad game and the other would have an impact from bench. Genuinely upset he’s not back.

Hope we have something better lined up.

I'm with you. He seemed to form the ideal 1-2 punch with Larin, although having to manage minutes is not ideal. As we well know, it's not easy to recruit talented strikers, especially on a free, so it will be interesting to see what happens in that position. I suspect Downs, Archer and BBD will all depart. We are just waiting for reasonable offers which obviously have not yet materialised.

It assumes Sporting have sold Luis Suarez, but that hasn't happened yet.

Perhaps, but you seem overly negative this summer - I wouldn't be so quick to rule out any big signings.

I.e., last year we took azaz and fellows (key players) from established championship clubs... We will likely be selling Charles for £25M+, potentially losing some of THB, Scienza, or Jander for big money, and almost certainly seeing the backs of the likes of BBD, Archer, Ramsdale, Bazunu etc. we've also had the Fernandes money come in, as well as seeing the likes of macca and aribo off the wage bill 🤷.

Ruling out signing Zan Vipotnik is not negative. He is not signing for another Championship team.

As for the sales mentioned, we need to balance the books and the amount of transfer income required reportedly runs into the tens of millions, that’s on top of the outlay for Latin, Peretz and Dobbin. Any further spending is likely to be on cheaper replacements for the likes of Charles and THB, if they leave.

Remember we have also already signed Larin, Peretz and Dobbin this summer though. And if we are selling Charles and one or more of THB, Scienza and Jander, those players will need to be replaced using the money that comes in.

I'm sure we will sign a replacement for Stewart, but Vipotnik is surely out of our range as he is Championship top scorer and contracted to Swansea until 2030 I believe. Also, if Swansea do sign Stewart they are getting him for £0, so they can hold out for big money for Vipotnik.

And they've got money to spend. And so much for their ground being a morgue this year. They've sold 50,000 season tickets - more than last year = and their fans will want to see goals.

The agreement was that he gets another year extension after the end of the season but due to spygate he was allowed to declare that agreement void.

The fact that he was transferred to you first—perhaps just to attach a "Premier League" label to the player—isn't really the main issue. Expectations within the multi-club model are incredibly high and often one-sided; a player like Juan—suited for a two-striker system—would likely struggle as a lone striker in the Premier League, much like Armstrong did. There is a perception that Southampton is handing over ready-made star players to us for free, which is nonsense.

I’m not suggesting we’ve handed over a ready made star or that Juan would thrive as a Southampton player. I genuinely don’t understand why the transfer was structured the way it was. It’s odd. As you suggested the fee was not a large one so I don’t get why he didn’t just go directly to you without signing for us 🤷‍♂️

As I said, it might be so that he has a Premier League club on his CV, even if only for a single day.

I don’t buy that as a reason. I expect it may be something the clubs know but won’t share publicly 🤷‍♂️

The agreement was void because Saints (understandably) fucked up. If an agreement is void it no longer exists, so you are admitting that we haven't actually offered him anything. I thought with you being one of the fonts of all knowledge on here that you might genuinely have some insight, but it seems you know the square root of fuck all, qu'elle surprise. Saints were playing the promotion/no promotion game with Stewart, it backfired badly because it showed him that he was not really wanted if we were promoted. How to fuck off a player in one easy step. Seems like Tonda has been trying to bring him round but seemingly without success.

Move on from Stewart always injured and larin can't start all the games once he crocked again.

Time to buy a younger more durable player..

What nonsense. Very clearly we were looking to continue with the agreement and then Stewart agent wriggled out of it on a technicality because he thought he could get him more elsewhere. Yes we fucked up but nowhere is that a suggestion that we didn't offer him anything. He just didn't accept because he could get off it on a technicality. Oh and it's fount by the way numbnuts. Maybe try to be a bit less aggressive in your posting there's a good chap.

I suspect, chaps, that it may be a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B.

I also think he has been badly advised. Regardless, if he ends up at Swansea it's all aboard the ROFLCOPTER!

Hope we get in someone decent like Larin, and not another Delgado...or someone broken again.

Could we actually afford to keep Scienza,. Harwood Bellis and Jander , I'm no expert on SCR but it seemed like previously we thought 2 of these 3 would go but it doesn't sound like the huge offers that Dragan said it would take are coming?

Would you keep the current squad with BBD gone  and Stewart on a new contract, no other transfers

I would

I don't understand SCR either, but it seems strange that one minute Hull have to sell players to comply with SCR, the next they're buying £17m strikers and foraging around for other players.

Here's hoping we can keep all three of the above. Don't mind if they sell Charles and presuming we can also keeps Downes, then I reckon we're only another striker away from having a really good team this year.

Nothing against Stewart, as I'd have been happy to keep him as a squad player/rotation with Larin.

But why is he continuously being seen as a coup for any Championship side who signs him? What am I missing?

The guy didn't play football for 2 years, back to more regular last year but still in and out through injury and protecting him. It's not like he's ever scored 20 goals at this level. He may do it at Swansea, but I don't think he's ever done enough at Championship level to be considered a 'wow' signing for anyone?

He's a quality player at this level & available for free, thats why. He's got a great goalscoring record wherever he's been, whilst fit.

Hopefully for him, the worst of his injuries are now behind him. He was superb for the last 5 months of the season I thought when we could manage his minutes with Larin coming in.  He only got injured when Will Still tried to play him 3 times in a week...!

I think the main issue Saints may have with their RS offer is that maybe it is fully pricing in that he plays <50% of the time largely coming off the bench . Maybe even as little as 30% if he comes on with 30mins to go for Larin.
RS and his advisors want to / do believe he is a 100% player. A championship starter. And priced his contract accordingly.
Other Championship clubs may / will know of this discrepancy and the offers he is getting may not be mush better but simply add an extra year to the contract and goal bonuses.

100% It's a very good squad 2 decent players for most positions and finally a decent goalkeeper and spine. Also dont underestimate the fact it's been together for a year now and on a winning run, the momentum and consistency that brings is very important when many of our promotion rivals will spend the first 2-3 months of the season trying to integrate 8, 10 or even more new players having also sold many.

Quality player or not, that injury record is just horrific. For a team serious about promotion, I think he's too much of a risk.

I agree. Teams like Ipswich a couple of season ago and Coventry last season had the combination of a settled side and momentum. You obviously need some quality players too (and they can paper over the cracks), but if you want to win this league, those elements do make a big difference. We need to start fast, avoid defeats (the league winners never seem to lose games early on) and carry the momentum we have across to the forthcoming season. Winning becomes a habit.

Anyone know where the rumours/stories of Stewart going to Wrexham originated? I can't find anything to suggest the deal is imminent or that they are interested in signing him.

It's bad, but after the 3 games in a week induced injury he stayed fit for the rest of the season. I was very hopeful that would happen. We managed him correctly and thought if we continued to do so, we'd get a full season out of him this time around. The problem would be if Larin got injured. We'd need him to play twice a week and that 'management' goes out the window. Really tricky situation. It would be a gamble, but then again a new signing will be too.

Pretty reasonable take. And the club obviously agree, at the wage and contract the player wanted, but relying on Archer, BBD, a new signing or Downs to come good is also a risk.

Players can put their long term injury troubles behind them. Santi Cazorla is a good example. He played just 8 PL gams for Arsenal over last two seasons due to injuries, departed for Villareal and then played 40 odd games in each of the next three seasons.

Wouldn't mind Saints taking punts like this. Can always loan out to the Turkish sister club.

Fleetwood did similar (turned down £750,000) with Jamie Vardy way back in 2012 and eventually got £1m rising to £1.7m when he moved to Leicester, who were in the championship at the time. He obviously made the step up in divisions, although he didn't set the world on fire in the first season as I recall.

If they have played against you and run you completely ragged, I'm guessing your concerns about them making the step up disappear quickly.  I noticed on transfermarkt He was let go by Millwall and his full name is: Abdulsabur Oluwatosin Olubukola Alao Oladipupo Abdulmalik.

My point was the value of the offer they turned down, circa x10 times the value of the club.  Like us turning down £2.50 billion?

Before his little purple patch of fitness and goals I think most fans would have been happy to have seen him leave on a free. All three options you mentioned aren't exactly palatable either, so we seem to be unsure what to do. I do think resigning Stewart presents more of a risk than bringing someone else in.
