Which should increase his value if that’s the case. £30m minimum plus add ons.

I know we all like to beat up Sports Republic, but generally they do get a good price for our players..

Sulemana for £17m for example after the general displays for us ... 😅

Let’s wait and see but fair point.

Given the money we’ve given them for Archer and Dobbin though, perhaps £45m might not be unreasonable!

Will be interesting to see how the likes of Jordan James, Lankshear and Anel get on this year. All players we have been linked with and haven't signed for whatever reason. None of them extortionate in terms of price.

Didn't Leeds do something similar in their last promotion season? Still shitting it though!!

yep. Sold their best players, £150m in and only spent about £25m on replacements. Not sure those coming in would have impressed a lot of us at that time.

We can still get promoted. We need to keep buying the right players though.

25 million and Bellis will be gone

I reckon Scienza isn't going to stick around either.

Was optimistic at the start of this season, I have this unnerving feeling that we are in for a reality check and transitional period.

Why am I feeling a bit miffed as others have noted, other teams are not fucking about with transfer business and are making moves.

I hope Spors has some continental gems lined up but it's risky, we can't afford to be static and start slow, need to hit ground running!

If we use some of the THB money to bring in a couple of good CBs we may end up in a better situation than THB and Wood/Stephens at the back even if neither of them are quite at THBs level.

I've also got a nagging feeling that Leo won't keep up the levels from last year so may not be the disaster some may think - nothing to base this on, just a feeling.

Same. Feeling flat about Saints right now ... need a good win on Saturday, get that feeling back and move on!

Let’s remember they also signed him for £25m when we desperately needed a decent attacker

The Villa fans for one on their forum! They can't believe they're signing a Championship centre back to play in the Champions League. Despite the fact he played and scored for England and was one of our better players in our Prem relegation season. He may not be the same level but he's only 24.

The fact for us is that he is our best CB and will be tough to replace but I wouldn't begrudge him a move to Villa and I suspect it'll be 25 million up front with extras up to 30 and a sell on clause. We can do business with that but it still blows that it'll come at this time of the window. I just hope it doesn't cause any unrest amongst others that might think their futures are above us.

They are getting well above their station that’s why!

If I were a Villa fan I'd be well unimpressed as well.

That was a horrendous game. The performance came out of nowhere and little did we know that was just the start.

Something changed.

It was also the start of Ralph’s decline and us circling the drain.

That's a big step up with European football too so I suspect an improved offer of £22m or £26m plus some other incentive and the agents will be doing s deal. We have seen it with many players if they want to go then eventually a deal will be done. Or THB will go in Jan window.

Then you would hope there are players lined up.

This feels different this time round.

I would rather lose Leo Scienza than Taylor Harwood-Bellis if given the choice.

SR have been wasteful with spending money, but then somehow have this knack of selling on under-performing players for mad fees - Sulemana being one who did fuck all for two years yet we made close to our money back on him.

Hoping for a masterclass over the next couple of weeks that gets fans back onside.

A defeat at the weekend and it’ll get very tetchy on here, more so than it already is. 😂

Right first off … THB is gone.  Huge shame… but I don’t think the panic is needed.  Yes we’ve gone backwards SO FAR with the squad but we’ve not fallen as far as i would have assumed after the fallout from last season.

The league is better than last year argument, everyone says that every year.  The points available in the division don’t change. Milwall came third last year and had a better season than us with a squad that isn’t comparable.  Our target is 91 points ( average to be promoted in the league in 2nd place ) obviously for us that means 95 points.

28 wins, 11 draws, 6 defeats.

We don’t have to be better player for player than Wolves, Burnley, West Ham.  What we do need to be is more consistent. Those three teams aside I think we have a better squad than the other 20 odd teams. So we have to be good at beating the teams worse than us.

Out record last season under a good coach, was exemplary from January onwards. I’ve seen nothing, even in the Watford game to suggest that we won’t dominate most games this season.

We’ve got a top keeper, a centre forward that’s better than any in the league IMO.  Azaz, Scienza, Jander, Downes, Bree, Manning, that every club would take pretty much.  The difference this year is the manager, he’ll get us up. I genuinely believe that.

We’ll sign a defender, we’ll sign a midfield player, and I reckon we’ll have a loan or two if we can shift some others. Relax, win on Saturday, beat milwall, 4 points from Brum and Lincoln, another 4 from B City, Swansea, and we’ll be geared up to beat them down the road.

Liverpool signed Isak, Wirtz, Frimpong, Ekitike, and got much worse for it.  Signings aren’t a given to work, so let’s keep our heads a little.

Oh, one last thing. Don’t boo if it’s 0-0 and we’re being patient Saturday. Rushing passes is why we lost v Watford.

Up the saints.

Blimey, if the players start getting booed at 0-0 in the first home game of the season then we've got more cunts in the fanbase than I ever realised. Surely not, I always assumed the ones who make a real show of themselves on social media don't actually go to St Mary's regularly

Spors is a master of this.

Aside from signing two right backs that were worse than the right back already on our books (and loaning him out), a centre back who never plays, a striker who isn't fit for purpose, giving Stephens a three year contract extension, and not bothering signing a keeper until January after masterfully judging Bazunu as "fine for this level".

Hope you're right. We can't afford any more missteps.
