I see Wolves are looking strong for the Championship campaign this year.

Kieran Trippier signing on and now rumoured to be going back for ex favourite Jimenez.

Can't see either of them coping with the demands of a Championship season, especially from mid-December onwards. I think Jimenez would be a great signing for Saints on a rotation basis, but that's the thing we do well, rotate.

Hmmm.

Not sure signing guys at the tail end of their career is a solid strategy for the EFL. In theory maybe; in practice, I'm really not convinced.

I think they probably look at last season with a sense of relief that it wasn't as humiliating as it looked like it could have been.

Pointless signing I reckon. As Saints proved, it's no good planning solely on getting out of the League 1, unless you plan on coming straight back down again. Signings ideally have to be good enough as is, with potential or a ceiling to better themselves in the Prem. If successful, Trippier and Jimenez will be another year older than now. Player tend to drop off a cliff rather than marginally deteriorate once past their best. We shall see.

Trippier I think will do ok in that position, Jimenez will depend on staying fit, probably similar to Ross Stewart

Imagine leaving a team that was top of the Championship for a team destined to get relegated from the Premier League, get relegated with one of the worst efforts to stay up and then get sacked before the following season starts having agreed a deal to bring back their former star striker.

Wolves could be just as funny as West Ham this season. 🤣

After signing Jimenez and Trippier, and then having Edwards on to talk about them both. Trippier even praised Edwards. 😂😂

Can only be a good thing for us as Edwards knows the Championship well and has had success

Doubt this is true.

Also, Edwards still lives rent free in Boro fans’ heads. He’s branded “the rat” They just can’t let anything go.  He had barely half a season with them.

Bizarre. Surely (like Adam Armstrong) Rob Edwards was hired for this season, not last? 

If it creates chaos at a clear promotion rival then hopefully good for us.

Wolves trying to recreate the Nuno position of having a Portuguese manager with the Portuguese agent link (assuming he’s still involved). 
 

Yet they allowed Edwards to start assembling a squad with more domestic players, Armstrong and Trippier

Agreed - it's a really bizarre decision from Wolves, he's proven in this league and from what I read, was instrumental in getting Trippier to move there. Way to go Wolves, piss off the new guy straight away.

Edwards made some mad moves in terms of stepping away from Boro for Wolves but he has been hard done by here.

Just shows how disjointed owners are from the playing and managerial staff.

He’s clearly been building a team for the Championship and now no doubt Wolves will try and recreate the Portuguese team that worked for them ten years ago…

Weren't his family all living in Wolverhampton, so he did it for those reasons. I think he spoke about being able to see his kids before and after school etc?

New guy being hailed as one of the most talented coaches around. Having done a quick search on him he never lasts much more than a year anywhere, apart from one club where he got sacked and rehired a few months later then left at the end of the season after they got relegated. His 'top coaches around" tag seems to be from his last job where he took his team to 6th in the Porteguese league, outside of that his record seems pretty unremarkable to say the least. 6 management jobs in 7 years, quite a few sacking at least one relegation, quite a few winless runs and a win percentage overall of 29%. Cant see this one going well. Oh well.....

This one is mental. They had a proven manager at championship level who was preparing his team for next season and who had saved them from the seemingly near certainty of being the worst ever prem side... I know they love Portugal... but the Championship is one of the most competitive leagues in world football.. About as far from the Portuguese top flight as you can get. Absolutely huge gamble.

If we do end up sacking Tonda, i certainly wouldn't be against Edwards as a future saints manager. Can see Burnley trying to get him on board ASAP.

Whilst the majority of their fans are  quite rightly critical of how the Wolves hierarchy have handled his dismissal, this seems to be a common assessment of his managerial acumen...

Hah, maybe. My perception of him was that hey did well. He joined when confidence was destroyed with 2 points from 11 games. He ultimately got them up to 20points and almost overhauled burnley - despite selling strand larson and replacing him with AA. I personally took that as a reasonable achievement. Possibly the fans are just understandably very unhappy and are blaming anyone attached to last season's fiasco. But if you compare it to our 12point relegation season, where the team weren't as badly off as wolves were when he joined, and yet were so demoralized they gave up every time a goal went in... There was no danger of us ever reaching 20 points.
