That's saints fans for ya. We do this all the time, then moan when we get called out.

It's bollocks and a popular myth. It makes people feel better about themselves to pretend there's loads of saints fans writing Dobbin off after one game.

It's not bollocks. I've read plenty of negative comments across the various platforms. Not quite Larin levels just yet, maybe give it another game or two.

You really should not have used a highly selective quote from my earlier post to illustrate your anger, promoted by you in more than one post this week alone,  that others are judging new signings too early.  You quoted the first six words of one of my sentences, which continued as below.  In the context of the rest of my post, any sensible reader could discern that I was being positive for him to improve on the form of his first two properly competitive games for us and that I hoped he would do so.

This is a football forum and posters share their varied opinions.  Thankfully we do not all have the same beliefs and ways of expressing them.

Im sorry you took it personally, it wasnt meant that way, and not sure why youthought it was said with anger? I was calm in my thoughts and post. And I dont know what you mean by 'promoted by you in more than one post week alone' as I havent made any other posts?
I was just browsing through the comments about our new signing and was surprised how many people were 'judging' him. I never said anybody had written him off. People saying he looks an 'average Championship player at best', 'really not impressed by him', 'Temu Redmond', 'been woeful so far', 'weird signing', etc. My post was just highlighting how quickly people are able to make those judgements already.
I love the forum because of it's melting pot of opinions, I dont think anyone should hold back on thoughts, thats the point of a discussion forum afterall and it would be pretty boring around here if they did.
Apologies if you took it personally, lets mutually hope for a Dobbin brace this weekend!

There’re plenty of negative comments because in the two competitive games he’s played for us he has been poor and nobody is really sure if he fits into our team. Nobody is writing him off, he may come good.

I mean, apart from the guys who have said "waste of fking money", "Dobbin was awful recruitment", "Don't like Dobbin, fast but so what" yeah, no ones written him off. That's just from this forum btw, twitter and had been even more rife tbf.

They're the same who wrote off Mane straight away. And Pelle. And a miriad of other players over the years.

"we do this all the time." No we don't. Cretins on social media like Facebook or Twitter might post some stupid comments but that's no different from every other club in the country.

I haven't had the chance to see him play (other than our goal highlights) so I'll not venture an opinion yet, so let's hope Saturday gives us a better idea.

Hypochondriac may be right in his opinion: "let's hope he comes good but looks very much like an average championship player to me so far.", but the "so far" is doing a lot of work in letting a negative opinion through whilst claiming not to be judgemental early on.

I never once claimed not to be judgemental. We make judgements all the time. It's also not a negative opinion, it's a truthful opinion of his first two performances. In an earlier post I described how mane had some thoroughly underwhelming early performances. That he subsequently showed himself to be excellent doesn't make those early performances any better or less poor. What I said was that it's a nonsense to say he has been written off. He's been played not in his strongest position and has played a couple of games. It hasn't looked great so far but it's early days and Dobbin has shown he can score and assist in this league when played the right way.

Yeah, looked to get involved. He lost the ball a little easy a couple of times, but he was trying to do something with it.

One of the things he has made me think about is that he looks a little more like a quick passer than Leo and Fellows (who both looks to take on their player first) and Dobbin kind of looks like he looks for the pass first, and that could be a good match with Azaz (a little more like Matsuki with pace on the wing).

Brought off the bench on 90+2 minutes of a game we were never actually in the lead of at any point. I think he’s a decent player but we do seem to have spent £9m on a like for like swap for Archer, who we didn’t want.

We’ve made it to our first half term holiday and I’m still none the wiser.

It’s like Solak said to Spors ‘can you pick something up from Dobbie’s’ and he got confused and bought Lewis Dobbin.

Perhaps an MLS outfit might be interested during January so Dobbin Does Dallas.

Tonda has his favourites but to be fair to him, they've not let him down too often but already it seems as if he doesn't trust Dobbin. £9 million wasted so far when we needed a striker or another CB and we need to do better in January.

I'd rather see Dobbin given a go than Edozie, who we know is absolutely useless.

2 summer windows and we’ve really shanked the respective #1 targets in Downs & Dobbin.

Both targets were positionally right, but the profiles seem totally wrong.

Agreed. I didn't mind Edozie 3 years ago when he was young and promising but he's 23 now and offers next to nothing. Waste of a squad place.

I'm not ruling Dobbin out just yet - he has barely had any game time, but when the first XI almost writes itself it will be difficult for him to infiltrate it.

Exactly. Edozie has had many opportunities but inceasingly doesn't deliver.

It is hard for Dobbin to fit in. He needs to come on when Larin's still there coz I can't see Mubama holding up the ball and laying if off to Dobbers.

Quite simply - he is not good enough. No wonder Preston were keen to let him go.

It was Villa who had our pants down over that. I think their fans were quite happy to see shot of him too.

What a load of shit. Stop projecting your disapproval of a player on to his old clubs.

He was excellent for Preston last season (40 odd games, 10 goals, 7 assists). Villa are a top 6 Prem team competing in Europe, he's probably not that level.

Scored against us in both league matches. Preston would not have been "keen to let him go".

On paper he was a decent signing. He's not some reject clubs wanted rid of. And he's barely had a go yet, a few cameos is not the basis to even work out if he's any good. Whatever happens, in his career already he's done better than Sam Edozie.

So keen that he started basically every game for them in the second half of last season?

Sorry this isn't true.

"So annoying seeing Dobbin not even used by Southampton , don’t believe we ever had a chance but frustrating as hell when they can pay 9mill and leave him on the bench"

"Would have been a better permanent signing than Archer. Think his peak his potentially higher. Southampton wasting him, but they have the money to do that."

I think we have wasted him as he needs game time. However, Azaz has been bang on form and Edozie preferred (somehow) on the left to replace Scienza.
