You quoted the first six words of one of my sentences, which continued as below. In the context of the rest of my post, any sensible reader could discern that I was being positive for him to improve on the form of his first two properly competitive games for us and that I hoped he would do so. This is a football forum and posters share their varied opinions. Thankfully we do not all have the same beliefs and ways of expressing them. Im sorry you took it personally, it wasnt meant that way, and not sure why youthought it was said with anger? I was calm in my thoughts and post. And I dont know what you mean by 'promoted by you in more than one post week alone' as I havent made any other posts? I was just browsing through the comments about our new signing and was surprised how many people were 'judging' him. I never said anybody had written him off. People saying he looks an 'average Championship player at best', 'really not impressed by him', 'Temu Redmond', 'been woeful so far', 'weird signing', etc. My post was just highlighting how quickly people are able to make those judgements already. I love the forum because of it's melting pot of opinions, I dont think anyone should hold back on thoughts, thats the point of a discussion forum afterall and it would be pretty boring around here if they did. Apologies if you took it personally, lets mutually hope for a Dobbin brace this weekend! Edited August 21 by St Louis

There’re plenty of negative comments because in the two competitive games he’s played for us he has been poor and nobody is really sure if he fits into our team. Nobody is writing him off, he may come good. 2

I mean, apart from the guys who have said "waste of fking money", "Dobbin was awful recruitment", "Don't like Dobbin, fast but so what" yeah, no ones written him off. That's just from this forum btw, twitter and had been even more rife tbf. 1 1

suewhistle Posted August 20 Posted August 20 I haven't had the chance to see him play (other than our goal highlights) so I'll not venture an opinion yet, so let's hope Saturday gives us a better idea. Hypochondriac may be right in his opinion: "let's hope he comes good but looks very much like an average championship player to me so far.", but the "so far" is doing a lot of work in letting a negative opinion through whilst claiming not to be judgemental early on. 3 1

I never once claimed not to be judgemental. We make judgements all the time. It's also not a negative opinion, it's a truthful opinion of his first two performances. In an earlier post I described how mane had some thoroughly underwhelming early performances. That he subsequently showed himself to be excellent doesn't make those early performances any better or less poor. What I said was that it's a nonsense to say he has been written off. He's been played not in his strongest position and has played a couple of games. It hasn't looked great so far but it's early days and Dobbin has shown he can score and assist in this league when played the right way. Edited August 20 by hypochondriac 1
Osvaldorama Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Looked decent in his short cameo today. Caused a lot of problems against tired legs, albeit didn’t get too much time 2
bugenhagen Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Yeah, looked to get involved. He lost the ball a little easy a couple of times, but he was trying to do something with it. One of the things he has made me think about is that he looks a little more like a quick passer than Leo and Fellows (who both looks to take on their player first) and Dobbin kind of looks like he looks for the pass first, and that could be a good match with Azaz (a little more like Matsuki with pace on the wing). 3
Lighthouse Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Brought off the bench on 90+2 minutes of a game we were never actually in the lead of at any point. I think he’s a decent player but we do seem to have spent £9m on a like for like swap for Archer, who we didn’t want. We’ve made it to our first half term holiday and I’m still none the wiser. 5
Gloucester Saint Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) It’s like Solak said to Spors ‘can you pick something up from Dobbie’s’ and he got confused and bought Lewis Dobbin. Perhaps an MLS outfit might be interested during January so Dobbin Does Dallas. Edited September 19 by Gloucester Saint

Tonda has his favourites but to be fair to him, they've not let him down too often but already it seems as if he doesn't trust Dobbin. £9 million wasted so far when we needed a striker or another CB and we need to do better in January. 2

Willo of Whiteley Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I mean he was ineffective his first few games then hasn’t been picked since. He hasn’t looked great, but then again I think any player not playing regularly generally is poor. Certainly for us anyway.
SuperSAINT Posted September 19 Posted September 19 2 summer windows and we’ve really shanked the respective #1 targets in Downs & Dobbin. Both targets were positionally right, but the profiles seem totally wrong. 3

I didn't mind Edozie 3 years ago when he was young and promising but he's 23 now and offers next to nothing. Waste of a squad place. I'm not ruling Dobbin out just yet - he has barely had any game time, but when the first XI almost writes itself it will be difficult for him to infiltrate it.
Willo of Whiteley Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Edozie shouldn’t be near the squad. Dobbin every time for 1

Edozie has had many opportunities but inceasingly doesn't deliver. It is hard for Dobbin to fit in. He needs to come on when Larin's still there coz I can't see Mubama holding up the ball and laying if off to Dobbers. 3
Andy Hill Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Quite simply - he is not good enough. No wonder Preston were keen to let him go. 1

What a load of shit. Stop projecting your disapproval of a player on to his old clubs. He was excellent for Preston last season (40 odd games, 10 goals, 7 assists). Villa are a top 6 Prem team competing in Europe, he's probably not that level. Scored against us in both league matches. Preston would not have been "keen to let him go". On paper he was a decent signing. He's not some reject clubs wanted rid of. And he's barely had a go yet, a few cameos is not the basis to even work out if he's any good. Whatever happens, in his career already he's done better than Sam Edozie. 7
Lighthouse Posted September 20 Posted September 20 6 hours ago, Andy Hill said: Quite simply - he is not good enough. No wonder Preston were keen to let him go. So keen that he started basically every game for them in the second half of last season?
Patrick Bateman Posted September 20 Posted September 20 9 hours ago, Andy Hill said: Quite simply - he is not good enough. No wonder Preston were keen to let him go. Sorry this isn't true. "So annoying seeing Dobbin not even used by Southampton , don’t believe we ever had a chance but frustrating as hell when they can pay 9mill and leave him on the bench" "Would have been a better permanent signing than Archer. Think his peak his potentially higher. Southampton wasting him, but they have the money to do that." I think we have wasted him as he needs game time. However, Azaz has been bang on form and Edozie preferred (somehow) on the left to replace Scienza.
die Mannyschaft Posted September 20 Posted September 20 What was the point of putting him on with 2 mins of added time left.
Patches O Houlihan Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I thought he did ok tonight. Held up the ball in midfield in a few crucial moments, some creativity and on the ball work. His save off the line worth 2 points to us. Not stand out but fair play 👍 17
Harry_SFC Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Didn't do a lot in the first half but thought he was decent in the second half. 1
Colinjb Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Liked his drive, great at getting the ball then turning his man and pushing forward. His reaction to clearing off the line was heartening. This lad wants to succeed. 8
St Chalet Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago He did ok tonight. Big price tag, but that’s not his fault. 1
UpweySaint Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Some of the close control was good. He found nice pockets of space and turned defenders well a couple of times. He’s a very different player to Azaz but I could see him as a 10 in an open game. He’s not going to pick the sort of passes out that Azaz does but he has other attributes. Hopefully with more game time and confidence we’ll see the best of him. 2
Dan Johnson Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago His best game for us, encouraged by his overall performance, looks good in flashes, some great turns and a few driving runs, decision making at times was frustrating. hopefully will play his part this season with a few goals 2
saintant Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Much better second half and we saw glimpses of what he is capable of plus the important goal line clearance. 2
SNSUN Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago 1 hour ago, saintant said: Much better second half and we saw glimpses of what he is capable of plus the important goal line clearance. Great clearance that was off his thigh, even if he knew little about it he was still in the right place. Almost as important for the 3 points than the Matsuki goal or the Peretz saves. Dobbin defo got into the game more as it went on, more so when he wasn't leading the line. If we need Azaz to have a rest I'd be interested to see him in the 10. 4
HKsaint Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago At this moment, Archer is much better than him. Archer scores every game. 1 3
AlexLaw76 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago He definitely grew into the game and looked pretty good much of the 2nd half. 3

I think there's a player there, just needs game time I think to get more integrated into our style. 1
Toadhall Saint Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I’ve only seen his second half display from last night and for me on that showing I think he’ll do well with us. Some lovely touches/turns on the ball and was in the right place to keep the ball out of the net. I’d like to see a bit more but I think it takes time to play hhs way Tonda wants - patience is needed with Mr Dobbin.
benjii Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Definitely looks more like a 10 or second striker than a "proper" center forward and when he dropped deeper in the second half he looked very good. I'm sure, come the end of the season, he will have produced some Shea Charles moments that we look back on.
