John B Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 Happy to lose DMG, Surman, Saga, Skacel and Lallana for a bit of money. Maybe up to 6m between them, that could make a huge difference. Like to keep the rest (except Smith) though. Assume Rasiak, Dyer and John will leave too. All that must total 7m+ into the club and a huge reduction in wages. Unfortunately your arthmetic is not good or your are taking some kind pick me up £7 m is way over the top I would have thought Possibly £3 m

John B Posted 30 April, 2009 Share Posted 30 April, 2009 Come on, I was being quite conservative in those estimates. Surman is utter ****e but he'll go for 2m. I thought he was the worst "footballer" I'd ever seen in a Saints shirt, bar none. Made Calum Davenport look like Franz Beckenbauer. Still, officially the funniest dribble I've ever seen at St Mary's too, the stumbling, clumsy 40 yard fall over on the half way line after getting clipped on the edge of the box. Why do posters on here keep slagging Surman off? Does it ever cross your mind that if successive managers here rate him, that if he was picked for England u-21 and that if other clubs' managers and indeed commentators also apparently rate him, that maybe he is actually a good player and it is your judgement that is wrong? It was the same with Oakley... another good player constantly slagged off on here. I for one would be really sorry to see Drew go. He is a good player and a genuine Saints player ..one of the few who isn't just a mercenary. With the right opportunities he will be a premiership player at some stage in his career. K. Fair enough, I still think it's fair to say he was in a couple of squads to raise the match profile and help sell tickets though, it's amazing how many England U-21 squads feature local players who don't get a look in at other locations. Well let's see. His delivery is poor. He can't tackle. He never heads the ball. His passing is pretty inconsequential. He disappears from games. And he doesn't link the defence and attack sufficiently. He is also - as I keep saying - far too lightweight to progress very far. Simply linking him with Oakley doesn't work. Personally I was a fan of Oakley, but there's no denying that he went missing on occasion too. Was better than Surman, in my view, though. PS a lot of not very good players play for England U21. An awful lot of professional footballers and managers do seem to rate him as a tackler, and especially as a passer etc, judging by comments you read in papers or hear on radio and TV commentaries. And Coppel has shown he can be a shrewd judge of players. K.

Which games in the last two seasons has Surman really took the game by the scruff of the neck and influenced things for us? As for other managers rating him. Wasn't this the same Andrew Surman who got dropped for Mario Licka? (Who wasn't exactly that brilliant himself). Pearson only put him back in at left back because we had other injuries. He's only playing this season because we don't have any other options. Playing for England Under 21? So did David Prutton (And he played a lot more games than Surman) and now he can't get in the side at a League 1 team. He has the odd good game now and then and pops up with a goal or two, but for every good game he has about five bad ones. Surman only gets this hero worship status because he's a young white local lad. If he was some 30 year old journeyman foreigner, I guarantee everyone would be on his back. We aren't second bottom because we have good players. Our players are poor and Surman is as bad as most. I really hope he goes soon. Surman to the Skates would be a dream move.
