in the likely event of saints not going up, we have the pleasure of playing the cherries next season

 

for some reason they see us as some sort of big rival...I used to always want them to win.

 

Have I missed something here in the football rivalry food chain..?

ARE they a big rival to us other than a local one..?

ARE we going to have thousands of cherries at SMS trying to kick off..?

 

does anyone else find them a non-entity..?

Just another club to me, and actually one i like out for and want to do well too. They think it's something massive and definitely believe it's two sided (i work there). Really takes the wind out of their sails when you point out all we care about is pompey (in the rivals stakes)

they hate us and assume we hate them, but they are nothing to us, purely a geographical thing, kind of like Hartlepool hating Newcastle but Newcastle only fussed by Sunderland geograpically, nothing to us, that said though looking forward to the south coast derby next season with them, also enjoy the local rivalries with Swindon & Brighton.

I've never seen Bournemouth as a rival to us at all, only ever seen Pompey as our rivals.

 

Don't know why a few Cherries fans try to make out a rivalry exists when it clearly doesn't. If anything I've only looked at their results in the past hoping they do well, I've never had any issue wearing a Saints shirt in Bournemouth either, whether I've been in the High Street, on the beach or even in a pub down there, something I know I couldn't do in Pompey.

Half my family are from Bournemouth, and several cousins and their kids have season tickets and go to away games. Fair play to them too, as they have supported their team through some pretty crap times, and as a small club they have defied the odds. However, I have also met quite a few wannabe geezers who act like Skate fans giving it the big 'Scummers' bit...Remember the League/Littlewoods cup ?? Some of them still dine on that......anyway they will be up for it, and would like nothing to do us over, and like we have seen with some of the smaller trips away this season the billy big blox stuff may back fire on us.....However, I entirely expect us, should the event occurr to stuff them out of site......

Apparently at the cherries games yesterday they were singing "que sarra sarra, whatever will be will be, we're going to st.marys, que sarra sarra". This imo is pathetic. I don't know any one that give a **** about Bournemouth.

 

Lol if true. Bournemouth are a funny little club, and one which I actually look out for a hope they do well like others on here.

 

It's a shame they're so bitter about us for no good reason. I still wish them well though.

They were always the team I looked out for if Saints weren't playing and I always wanted them to do well... until it became apparent that they hated us. Nowadays I still look for their result but I pretend that I don't care as much.

Considering we are pretty much responsible for them still being a club through friendlies where we give them all the money, players being sent on loan etc, I think they're being ungrateful bastards myself.

 

Work with some Cherries fans and rthey don't hate us at all, just try to wind me up through friendly banter, but they have explained that a few people really dislike us there and one of the reasons is that we make out that we saved them

Now I am just indifferent.

 

That's just a minority and let's face it we have our fair share of them too.

 

It's purely a geographical thing, we are their nearest league club.

 

I have a soft spot for Bournemouth and always will have, apart from when we play them and I'll be desparate for a Saints win.

no it itsn't, the only reason we "hated" Tottenham was due to the Glen Hoddle thing, it was a totally pointless, ********, manufacturered rivalry which lasted about a season after Hoddle went. There has never really been any rivalry between us apart from that and the fact they now got HR as manager.

It's similar in the same way that alot of Saints fans hate Spurs, but most spuds don't give a s**t about us.

But Turkish is correct in saying it's not a local rivalry thing. It's just like the skates hating spurs at the moment for the same reason, and half their team joining spurs.

The Cherries are always one of the teams who's results I look out for, one of my mates supports them and it good to see them do well.

 

I'm not going to be dragged into another needless rivalry, there is only one true local rival to us and they do not share half of our shirt colours.

Then clearly you don't know Bournemouth very well. Somebody quite famously said, not so very long ago, 'everybody who comes to Bournemouth loves and feels affection for the club, be they from Arsenal or where ever - they all love it here' (or words to that effect) - honest, no joke...! ;)

Quite a few Saints regulars live in Bournemouth so will be an interesting journey for them when they come up with the Bournemouth & Boscombe Albion 'hordes' for next seasons derby

 

Athletic surely ?

 

And as someone else has mentioned,there is always the prospect of Aldershot as well.

Despite the fact that this is pretty much true they hate being reminded of it and wont accept it.......whenever I ask the question "who else came to your aid back then?" the answer is always a mumbled "well, ah...."

Grew up down there - I'm not for lording it over teams; but they are a bunch of ungratef*l c*nts. This is a place where harry is deified and goodwill is more likely to be felt to teams like West Ham than anything we've ever done. However trivial, if I have a bothersome zit on my arse I will pop it - same goes for football teams.

 

Ultimately, though, I take their amusing bitterness as confirmation that we still are the top dogs in the south, the aristocracy in the footballing hierarchy. Years of dominance haven't been reversed by the skates bubble in peoples imaginations - cherries fans are more likely to see skates as fellow plucky underdogs whereas we have been -and continue to be- major scalps, the team others benchmark themselves against.

 

Don't how true that is - at least where we currently are- but I take great pleasure that others still see it that way....

I hate P*mpey. I have no time for the Cherries and their blatant contempt for us. They're nothing on our radar!

 

Let them come and enjoy their big day out in Southampton, bless them.

I live in Bournemouth and have no worries about getting the train up when they play at St Mary's. As with all teams fans there are bound to be a few mongs, but generally they are fine here and don't hate Saints at all. I know a couple of season ticket holders at Dean Court who always look out for Saints results, just as I do for theirs.

As someone else said on here has already said, there's never any issue with wearing Saints shirts around here.

I thought it was pretty funny at the pre-season friendly last year when a bunch of our 'yoof' were singing to the Bournemouth fans "Your just a town full of pikeys" oh the irony!!!

 

Also looking forward to an ‘away’ game being quicker to get to than home games! lol

There's always a bit of rivalry between teams in the same County, but not always a bitter rivalry like with the Skates these days. Everyone wants to be the local top dog. Just because Bournemouth was transferred to Dorset in the 1970s by some faceless beaureaucrats doesn't mean this sort of rivalry disappears. I've always had a soft spot for Bournemouth and will continue to do so, as long as we take 6 points from them next season. I would also like to see Aldershot promoted, for a while in the late 60s/early 70s they were effectively our reserve team (in their previous guise), several players who were cast off by Saints ended up there.

The catch 22 is the key. Just ignore them. Or:

 

'You're just another game, just another game, and now you better believe us you're just another game.....'

They have a big chip on their shoulder, but when you remind them of the loanees we have helped them out with over the years and the fact I believe that we allowed them more time for a payment from them to us for Neil Moss at the time which helped keep them in business they shut up
