Swindon Build-up Thread

By some of the comments on here, Saturday can't come quickly enough.

Swindon have dropped like a stone since Austin left, and he finally can't score against us!

We just need to show that spark that has been lacking in recent games and a get a few in the net.

I'm going for 3-0 Saints

No ifs, no buts, no excuses. I have faith in NA and he needs to send out a team on Saturday that annihilates Swindon. We showed the world what we are capable of against Man U, and our performances since then have been sub-standard. If there was ever a chance to mentally and physically show that we deserve to be promoted then this is it,and I won't be happy with anything less than a clear 3 goal victory.

You will be unhappy if we win 2-0?

Sadly though, we only win when I start the build-up threads, so......

... get this one deleted and put it right, goddamnit!

I think the most important thing on Saturday is that we don't let anxiety get the better of us fans, such that it creeps onto the pitch. We play our best football when confident and relaxed and I sense that players are starting to feel the pressure a bit which is leading to anxious play and a fear of making mistakes, which actually tends to lead to more mistakes. We need to really get behind the team for 90 minutes, even if things don't quite go our way or it takes 70 minutes to score...

Yes. That little tinpot club has been a thorn in our side these 2 seasons, time we sent them a step closer to league two with a hammering.

So if the full-time whistle goes at 2-0, will you boo the team?

Still don't know if i'm working for this game - I better f*cking not be as I haven't been since new years day. My season ticket is now more expensive than just buying a ticket for each of the games I went to.

Indeed. If we batter them for the first 45 minutes but fail to score for some reason you can guarantee there will be a divvy element booing at half time.

FWIW, I would pick this:

-------------------------------------KD------------------------------

FR----------------------JF--------------RJ/AM----------------------DH

Johnno-------------Hammo---------------Schneido------------------Lallo

--------------------Big Rickie-------------Little Lee-------------------

Bench: Shea, Butters, RJ/AM, Chambo, Guly, Dickson, Chappers

Would like to see Barnard or Forte start next to Lambert. If Forte is a striker then his pace could really do some damage with Lallana on the wings.

Agree, don't think Guly has done too much wrong but I would freshen it up a bit upfront for this one.

Promotion watch for the weekend:

Notts County v Charlton - A couple of poor results at home for Charlton and County brushed aside Colchester at home. Draw

Daggers v Bompey - 3 Points from 3 home games sees a lack in confidence for Bradbury's men. I reckon Daggers can grind out another draw.

Huddersfield v Leyton Orient - Orient going great guns at the moment, but they may have one eye on the Cup replay. Home win

MK Dons v Brighton - Tough one to call really, MK aren't bad at home, but Brighton, well... Could be any scoreline, i'll go for a score draw

Oldham v Posh - Oldham have scored once in their last 4 games, and Posh score for fun. Away win

Charlton and Bompey dropping points (and us winning, of course) would be a good weekend's work.

Swindon....What happened to those guys? And Bristol. They were both great last year but this year just plain suck!

We have to win this game and in all honesty i don't see how we cannot win it. They are dreadful. They haven't won a game in a long long time (10 games!). Only got 3 points from the last 24 on offer. Have the worst away record in the league with only 2 wins! Have let in 54 goals in 32 games, thats almost 2 a game.

If Saints turn up and play how they should this one will be a breeze.

I think 3-0 to Saints

COYR!

So, what you're saying is, that if any team was ever due a freak win, it's....Swindon?

Nah they are too **** to even get that! Since Austin went i think they have managed to score only 5 goals. Their 2nd top scorer in the league is Morrison with 4 goals. Fonte has around that if i remember right!

I know you shouldn't look down at a team as it sets you up for a fall. But in Swindons case they really are dropping like a stone. I think selling Austin has condemned them to be relegated. The confidence will be low, they are a shadow of the team we lost to last year at home and even the team we lost to this year away. Time for some revenge :)

For me this is one of the biggest games of the season, I know far too many Swindon fans and they've all enjoyed rubbing in our recent record against them of 0-4 without even scoring a single goal. This may be our best chance to finally beat them, morale is at a huge low at County Ground, everyone I know who goes is fed up of watching their dire performances. There also sounds like there is a bit of dressing room unrest, the players have been banned from talking to the media, fans are really getting on Wilson's back now. My mate reckons they'll bring less fans than they brought on the Tuesday night game last season as the circumstances are completely different, so if there was ever a good time to start going on a winning run its Saturday. At least I won't have to go through the pain of Austin scoring against us on Saturday.

One of the biggest games of the season???That's about Brighton,Bournemouth and Charlton away. Saturday's game is just another 3-0 home win.

Because they had Austin and some loans from the Prem, they don't have any of them now, that's why they've picked up 3 points from their last 10 games.

4-1. Put your house on it!

I will be disgusted if we concede a goal. Look at the money we've spent FFS!

There are some crappy clubs who have kept a clean sheet against Swindon so if we don't it is completely unacceptable.

God, no wonder we are such losers when some fans will countenance conceding a goal.

For some of us who happen to work in or live near Swindon this is one of the biggest games of the season. You don't have to put up with the yokels day in day out.

Still trying to figure out why we are not playing in a recognisably Adkins way. Remember v Yeovil away ball was swung from side to side through midfield and rolled out to centre backs all the time from Davis. I know it took a shelling v Huddersfiled, but why has the overall pattern looked more and more like Pardew. Is it player power? The last manager for nearly all these players is now a mid-table Prem manager. Do the players not get the psycho-jargon of the new man? I know his overall performance is satisfactory but is some minor part missing. Perhaps Cortese should talk to the players upping the anti on promotion? Every game really is a cup final from now on.

I really like the cut of your jib, sir. Good posts.

Serious soul-searching required if the result doesnt materialise.

Swindon were on the slide even before Austin was transferred, it was his goals that was keeping them out of the bottom 4. Probably their biggest loss though was when Gordon Greer went to Brighton in the summer. They havn't managed to replace him adequately. Also, Billy Painter went to Leeds and these were probably their 3 best players from last season.

There really is no reason why we should not beat this present Swindon side and that will make my life a lot more bearable. The only cautionary note is that their players and particularly their fans will treat this like a cup final and we need to match that passion.

We really do have to win this game Swindon have been a boogey side for us recently & we need to win & put on a performance to get our confidence back on track.

We are facing a team in free fall at home & we have to take advantage we need to go on a winning run & we need to start Saturday we have been lucky that our promotion rivals have not taken full advantage so come Saints sort it out lets be having you

Went for a run this morning past the Ticket Office, only 19,000 tickets sold so far.

Their current form is poor

Carlisle H (0-1), Colchester a (1-2), Orient a (0-3), Rochdale H (1-1), Bompey a (2-3), Exeter H (0-0), Tranmere H (0-0), Gas a (1-3), Yeovil H (0-1), Oldham a (0-2).

That is 0-3-7 in the last 10, with 2 or more goals conceded in the last 5 away games.

If we come out of the dressing room with the right attitude it should be 2-0 by half time and then we can think of resting players from the hour mark for Tuesday.
