Already knew it was likely to happen given the retained list statement on 20th May.

But now confirmed...

That explains the floodlights.

Where will he fit in the team though? I don't think he and Owen would work very well and if we play both of those plus Lambert that means you have to leave out one of Guly, Lalalannas or Oxton-Chamberfield.

Great news and what a fantastic, genuine and positive interview from DC. Take note of Connolly's attitude, Punch....

Hardly the same situation is it ? Connolly will take what he can get with his playing career near its end and Puncheon's playing at the highest he ever has and will probably want to not waste his career in a team's reserves if he can get a move. I'm not sure why anyone would want him to stay.

I don't remember saying I wanted Puncheon to stay?

Anyway, disagree - yes, their situations are different but Connolly said he's quite happy to work hard to get a chance in the first team if not selected; whereas Puncheon seemingly thought it was a birthright and got all sulky when he was benched.

I must admit, I am pretty unimpressed, I can't see him having another season in him, though qudos for how he ended this one.

I just hope his wages do not detract from a new up and coming, chomping at the bit goal getter.

In the original article about unresolved contracts, it said it would be on the clubs terms...

I didn't say you did, but why would you care what his attitude was like otherwise ?

But Connolly is an absolute class act, with Barnard injured he was our last hope last season and he came good big time. I think he is still a definite HCDAJFU, there aren't many players available as good as him.

+1. He was crucial in the run in, credit where its due.

Excellent. Anyone who saw live his performances in the last 5 games knows this is a no brainer - he oozes class and a great option to have!

+1 - movement, vision, passion and liveliness second to none as soon as he was called upon. Well worth a 1 year deal. Very pleased.

Very pleased -a decision based on logic not sentimentality. Barny's injury ultimately turned out to be a blessing in disguise - gave Connolly the chance to show the class he still has.

Very good news - we have quality cover in most positions and he's earnt his place in the squad. Good attitude when not picked as well...there's a great ethos in the club now which will be needed to carry on the journey onwards and upwards.

Loving all this!

Great signing.

Trouble with being one of the more gifted/experienced players in a squad is that you can be rushed back from injury too quick which makes full and lasting recovery pretty much impossible. What Connolly got last year was an opportunity to put the injuries behind him - in his own words he said he was probably one of the fittest players in the squad towards the end of last season. And 34 is not too old if you've got a good football brain, which DC has.

I think he will come back stronger next season and don't be surprised to see Lee B or even Rickie spend time on the bench to accomodate him.

This is great news. David Connolly is a really nice bloke and will be good for the dressing room. He's a trier, he's blessed with rare skills and never stops running: let's wish him well with fitness this season. 20 goals from him and we should get the 46 points minimum we need to stay up.

What a choice to have to make, David Connolly or Lee Barnard, two very similar types of players all fired up, that'll keep No 7 honest for sure although I don't see it as a problem as Ricky Lambert just keeps improving every game.

In fantasy land I would prefer Michael Owen as the fox-in-the-box but for now David Connolly will do me just fine. I like him, I like his attitude, I love his goals - what's not to like?
