Lambert Signs Contract Extension

Good news and a real boost for another "oldie " in the squad.

Not too many Prem.sides would give a striker of his ilk another 3 years, but it's good for club morale, too.

I don't expect him to be playing 40+ games / season in 2016, but like KD...his presence around SMS is a psychological boost for everyone.

He loves an All Saints top. Now he's on a bit more cash maybe he can afford to buy some decent gear.

my uncle is all saints bigwig. It used to get me some cache when they was bit more exclusive spitalfields rather than every other department store.

In other news, trend followers, next seasons all shirts t's are returning to a more crew neck because certain nephews of certain all saints bigwigs raised v.strong objections to recent trend for mega scoped lady style collar details

Edit: I mean yeah good news bout rickie!

See he's got the watch then. Have we only got the 1 pen then, always the same.

There will be a clique mentality at the club soon, those with "the watch" and those without.

I've come to the conclusion that we only dish out new contracts just to advertise these bl**dy watches !

Don't really get this logic. His fitness record is excellent. He's rarely injured and his game isn't based around pace. If anything, he'll continue to improve and be an even better player in 2-3 years time.

Great news. Congrats Rickie. Thoroughly deserved.

Plan B Anyone?

Previously, the media have been quite insistent that Sam Allardyce fancies signing Rickie Lambert in the summer.

With Andy Carroll set to return to Liverpool, Marouane Chamakh likely to return to Arsenal and Carlton Cole out of contract, Lambert, the highest scoring English born player in the Premier League, seemed a good acquisition for Big Sam.

But that idea may just have been blown out of the water with it being reported that Lambert, today, signed a two year contract extension and at the same time remarked,

'To be spending the next three years at Southampton is something I'm absolutely delighted about.'

Right, where`s that Plan B?

He has quality first touch, heading, deadball striking, live ball striking, aerial abilty and distrubution. He will always be a handful. He has done more for the club than anyone post league 1 days. even if in the final year of contract he is playing a cameo role he will still be useful. He deserves this more than anyone. Rickie Lambert is a Saints Legend. FACT

I wonder how much we're paying a 15+ goal a season striker in the prem. Well chuffed, Rickie Lambert Saints legend is set to be at Saints for the rest of his career and we couldn't ask for a better player to do it.

Heard a few months ago that he was looking for parity with Ramirez, who is obviously the highest wage at the club.

Excellent news. Just Boruc to go..

This. Very much this.

Just Boruc to go, surely

Jack Cork signed for us in July 2011 on a 4 year deal until June 2015, but that was as a Championship club. Perhaps he'll sign a new deal soon or maybe wait until next summer? Might depend on clauses in his current deal.

Great news!!!!!!

Glad they gave him a 3 year deal as well, it's one of those things where his skills will not diminish and he never had any pace so it is a low risk extension.

GET THE FLIP IN!

Good point! He's been oft likened to Sheringham (though i think Lambert is stronger) and he kept going at the highest level until late 30s / early 40s?

Great news.
