Pompey relegated without even playing !!

Brilliant, I can't stop laughing. . . Sha la la. . Pompey are back where they belong in division 4. You can buy the FA cup but you can't buy safety. Redskate and another money club to be relegated next.

Yep, twitchy to monumentally fail in his (supposedly) final challenge would add the icing to the cake. Sounds greedy, but thats what I'm hoping for next.

Does this mean they get the -10 next season then like we did? That would be funny.

It's a different situation, but I can't logically see the FL allowing a -10 punishment to have no effect when they have specifically created to discourage other teams from not paying CVAs as the Skates have, and they can't even get in the League at all unless they're taken over by the end of the season and agree whatever terms the FL give them for coming out of administration - which the FL have already said will be (at least) -10, tight financial restrictions and transfer controls.

Very good news.

It's now a long, long, long way back for them.

Can't see them at a decent level for decades to be honest.

To be honest they are a massive club for L2 level, and although the -10 will probably hinder them next season, I can see them getting back up to L1 fairly easily in 2014/2015.

No money ,transfer embargoes etc. Not as massive as they would like to believe. Wonder how their fans will feel when the euphoria of being a fans club wears thin and they have to watch the youth each week

I can't. Luton were pretty massive for L2 as well, yet look where they ended up. And obviously Bradford City as well.

They have absolutely nothing. Will be hard for them to gather any momentum.

I expect they'll do well next season. Would be good going to get promoted after a -10 deduction though.

Monday Tuesday happy days Wednesday Thursday happy days ! Will they get a bubble for Eastleigh away in 2 years time?

What's a bubble, in this context?

The last time the went down to the 4th tier, we embarked on the most successful period in our history during the early 80s. Hopefully we can now do the same again. As far as we’re concerned, I think they’re irrelevant now. We should make that clear by not singing about them week in week out. They’ll hate that even more.

here's hoping for a cup game next season !!

That would take them winning at least one League Cup tie in August, or getting to the 3rd round of the FA Cup, so unless it happens in the League Cup when they're probably going to have a flung-together side of frees, wannabes and rejects, I can't see it.

For the record it would be hilarious if we put a reserve side out and still stuffed them.

But they have to actually get taken over in the next 10 days first.

I get easily confused when trying to work out the hierarchies of non-league football. Can anyone tell me what league they'd be in if they were to repeat this brilliant performance of three (almost) successive relegations?

League Two -> Conference -> Conference South -> Southern Premier

Anyone know what the actual national record is for successive relegations? Not just league, I'm sure there are some pretty pathetic figures at non-league level...

They must be looking forward to their fixture list next season, with the older fans reacquainting themselves with the fourth division grounds they used to love visiting in days gone by. What a mouth watering prospect, visiting the mighty footballing teams that are Fleetwood, Burton Albion, Morecambe and Accrington Stanley. Ah! That brings back memories of how famous that team were, so much so that they featured in a prominent TV commercial:-

And as somebody pointed out in a post to the News forum, the 1 4-1 takes on an entirely new significance now that the Skates have gone from the 1st to the 4th divisions in record time.
