doddisalegend Posted 13 May, 2015 Share Posted 13 May, 2015 ALVES CLOSE TO MAN UTD DEAL? Manchester United are very close to confirming a deal for Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, according to Catalan newspaper Sport. The paper report that the player will snub Barca after United offered him a contract that was ‘far superior’ to the one on the table from the Spanish club. The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer as his contract at the Nou Camp expires this summer. Signing a 32 year old right back doesn't exactly smack of forward planning. Window Cleaner Posted 13 May, 2015 Share Posted 13 May, 2015 Signing a 32 year old right back doesn't exactly smack of forward planning. Especially one that doesn't defend particularly well, might be alright for a 3-5-2 system I suppose.
S-Clarke Posted 13 May, 2015 Share Posted 13 May, 2015 Signing a 32 year old right back doesn't exactly smack of forward planning. These top clubs don't really forward plan, it's about the here and now for them. They'll just spend £30m on another RB in a year or 2 if that happens, no problem for them. I mean Liverpool are looking to replace Gerrard with Pirlo......I thought the whole reason to let Gerrard go was to evolve his position with a younger player...but Pirlo?? Cracking player, but what have you got, 1 year max out of him? Sensible move.

Saint Charlie Posted 13 May, 2015 Share Posted 13 May, 2015 The Northern Journos like Ogden, Ducker and McDonnell have been mentioning Clyne as a done deal to United for months, the same way they were "briefed" about Shaw. With the Saints reopening talks and Alves speculation it suggests to be that someone is trying to hurry a decision along.
Gorgiesaint Posted 13 May, 2015 Share Posted 13 May, 2015 Signing a 32 year old right back doesn't exactly smack of forward planning. Actually I think it would be a decent signing for them and I'm not a Dani Alves fan. The problem that United have had is that they have for last 15 years or so replaced their centre backs as a pair - you had Bruce/Pallister, then Stam/Johnsen, followed by Vidic/Ferdinand. It should have been followed by Chris Smalling and Phil Jones but neither has come up to scratch. It means they're likely to have a fairly inexperienced centre back partnership - likely to be Daley Blind + one other. Alves will provide some much needed experience at the back (provided he's not on all out attack!)

According to this interview with Les Reed Clyne has got himself a new agent, after binning his last one, so possibly not such a done deal after all. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?54190-Les-Reed-talks-Jay-amp-Clyne-contracts

Morgan is the only I think who will be off (from the list of "expected players to leave" in the summer) - it's hard, but I do think the guy deserves to push on with some Champions League football, wouldn't begrudge him it at all. Although I'd love to see him in Europe with Saints and end up having a testimonial, but hey ho.

I think Mourinho is keen to move Ramires on in the summer and Fabregas doesn't really fit the deeper role - Morgan would probably end up playing alongside Matic if he went to Chelski. simo Posted 15 May, 2015 Share Posted 15 May, 2015 Personally I'd say to Clyne "we're happy to let you go for free next season as by then one of the academy lads will be ready to step up therefore saving us a transfer fee , so your better off signing a new deal on higher wages and we'll let you go next time" ! Saint IQ Posted 15 May, 2015 Share Posted 15 May, 2015 Be fantastic if he signs a new deal. If not that is to be expected from most, maybe a slight chance he'll be here next season more so than Morgan as Clyne is a couple of years younger but I too have noticed the last few games he doesn't look the same as earlier on in the season.
