Saint Garrett Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/560548/Manchester-United-prepare-Nathaniel-Clyne-bid-Southampton MANCHESTER UNITED are planning their summer swoop of Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne after he refused to sign a new deal at St Mary's. Published: 00:00, Thu, February 26, 2015By IZZY HORSEFIELD Manchester United are preparing their bid for Nathaniel Clyne United are hopeful they can prise the 23-year-old away from the south coast and will continue their pursuit once the transfer window re-opens in July. Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is a big admirer of the in-demand right-back and according to the Daily Mirror, Clyne is keen on the move to Old Trafford. Clyne would link-up with former teammate and academy graduate Luke Shaw who made his move during Southampton's summer exodus last year. While United paid a whopping £27million for Shaw, they expect to pay a lot less for Clyne considering his current deal at Saints expires in July 2016. Clyne joined Southampton from Crystal Palace in 2012 on a four-year deal. Not good news - he left Crystal Palace for free after running down his contract, I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same thing here. Sell him in the summer, and replace him with Byram. gr00031 Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 He was great at the beginning of the season, but recently seems distracted. If players want to go, let them go, there is plenty of good underrated talent in Europe. Sell him in the summer, and replace him with Byram. Byram isn't that good yet, and certainly not to a Prem level. Trippier may be a better bet, or even ask for £10m plus Rafael. If anyone can get him defending better it'd be Koeman.

Window Cleaner Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 Reading into Ralf Krueger's comments from his recent interview' date=' it sounds like Clyne wants more than we want / can afford to offer him.[/quote'] Unsurprising, Toby was on about 5.5 million € a year at Atletico, which would have put him on about 80K£ a week when he signed for us, assuming of course that he saw no reason to take a pay cut at that time. We therefore have established a precedent, we're willing to pay 80K a week at least, so when we have these young(ish) lads on 30K a week doing well and being noticed we need to expect to offer them at least as much as the highest paid player currently. IF we've not offered him 80-90K then he's going to look elsewhere.

(human nature and all that) Can't see it making much difference to be honest, even if he's off he needs to keep his level up to ensure interested parties remain so, especially if he's running down his contract, as his value then is only based on his performance level. Bearsy Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 Clyne's actions do not suit my feelings! I've got no problem with bros being contract rebel at dumb clubs like Palace or whatever, but it is massive disrespect to do it to us! He should sign new contract immediately, and then vociferously demand transfer in the summer, like Lallana and Schneiderlin done. Where is yo sense of honour, Clyne? teedee38 Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 Clyne's management are no fools and they are playing the transfer game, RK & the board have been able to replace, and in most cases better, those who leave so lets not get this out of proportion. As with most sides its the core of the squad we need to be looking at Gardos, Fonte, Wanyama and especially Schneiderlin are the ones to worry about, I wonder if Arsenal offer £100m for 3 of them would we take it? Playing in Europe might be seen as a bonus for us, but another season without Euro football at Old Trafford would start a meltdown there. MU are still a long way behind Chelsea and Citeh (qualitywise), and are unlikley to be title candidates again in the short term. Fair point, but he'll also be wary about the consequences of picking up a significant injury in the lead up to any impending deal so, subconsciously at least, he may think twice (more so than usual) about going in for a 50/50 tackle (for example). Fine margins and all that. Probably over-analysis on my part but that hasn't stopped me thinking out loud on an internet football forum before

sotonist Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 It's a troublesome proposition really. Were currently directly in competition with a team that he is likely to want to move to next season. He might want to keep playing well to maintain his suitor's interest and might be thoroughly, but if he's fairly certain that the deal is on, even if only subconsciously he won't want to contribute to their missing out on the best league position they can get. this kind of situation stinks. the last year and a half of a player's contract becomes tainted. Saint Charlie Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 (edited) Will happen each year. Will be Wanyama the year after as he won't extend his contract either. Fine, just puts a lot of pressure on the recruitment success. Is a slight shame though that despite how well we are doing we can't get our best players (the ones who have the choice to move to bigger clubs) to sign new contracts here. In two summers we will have lost: Lambert, Lallana, Shaw, Lovren, Chambers, Clyne, Alderweireld, Schneiderlin and possibly Jay Rod. Any club that keeps growing and improving despite that is a miracle worker IMO. Get a few of the signings wrong in key positions and it becomes dodgy.
