Nathaniel Clyne Joins Liverpool - Official

Love the end of this article

Both Clyne and Schneiderlin, together with any other of Tottenham’s summer targets, have been advised to avoid moving to White Hart Lane by former Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.

Gomes, who spent six years at Tottenham and is now at newly-promoted Watford, believes the struggles of Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela should act as a warning to other players.

“It’s the club (who are to blame),” Gomes told ESPN Brazil. “Certainly, I would not recommend to anyone (to join Spurs).

“They paid £28m for Soldado, and they don’t play him. Or look (at) Lamela, who was a great (prospect) in Europe, but today you watch Tottenham games and he looks like he can’t play football at all.”

Gomes just hasn't been able to seize onto the fact that English Football in general and PL football in particular isn't a place for wimps, fairies and incompetents. He was awful, that's not Spurs fault now is it. If he keeps his place at Watford we shall no doubt see once again how bad he really is.

I would expect this to be sorted positively, based on the noises I've heard from respected people and posters.

Hopefully once the dust has settled on that, he can get his mind back on his game again - as he's seriously drifted over the last 3 months.

Waiting to see who wins fa cup before making a decision maybe?

Doubt it to be honest. Would be a bit knee jerk.

More likely he has waited to see if any top clubs have come in for him. United clearly did and for whatever reason have cooled interest.

New deal would be great for Saints as enables us to get a bigger fee when he eventually does go and of course means we don't need to recruit two RBs this summer (we need a backup to Clyne, especially if Toby doesn't stay. Nobody in the U21s for this position.)

I wouldnt rule out our brenda coming in for clyne

And I'm sure Lambert and Lovren will have a little chat to him - it ain't all it's cracked up to be!

I don't think Clyne is 'top' level just yet, he'll get there...but he's not there yet. I think if he moved now, he wouldn't be a mainstay in a team and would drift in and out of a side like Shaw. It makes so much sense for him to stick here and carry on progressing. He'll get his move one day and has plenty of time on his side.

I would...If they want a RB then they'll go for Trippier, local move and about a third of the price.

What Liverpool need is a real DM and a striker, a real one who scores goals, no place for Clynes in their set up just nowl

He's the England right back and plays week in, week out in the premier league. Not sure what you mean by him not being "top level"? Doubt he would drift in and out of any of the teams linked with him as unlike Shaw, he doesn't have the same fitness and maturity issues to contend with.

They are in a world of trouble IMO, Sakho and Lovren just have not helped their defensive woes, and Skrtl is still they're best defender. They desperately need a CB or two, Lucas is not looking the force he was, gerrard will be a big loss too, so thats atleast a CM or two.

And yes, scoring goals is something they've missed since Suarez, im not sure even a fit sturridge is as good as is made out. Suarez was such a force.

I suppose you are right, but they'll need a RB, no point continuing to play Markovic there and Can isnt the man either.

I think clyne is an option for them, he is better than trippier.

But I honestly think they need to spend north of 100m again to improve on this year, thankfully I have faith that brendon and his merry men will **** it up the wall again.

Would be suprised if Les Reed and Koeman had been so positive about Clyne recently without being almost sure that he will stay.

guess he might be happy to stay ...IF we make Europa League, otherwise the Reed / Koeman comments might just be a face-saving move to anticipate the inevitable...

If he doesn't stay then Koeman and Reed's comments will look a little silly. Thats why I think he will stay, because surely they are both (Koeman especially) too intelligent to be duped.

Is ings still definitely joining? He's massively odds on to join Liverpool.

Not heard anything more about Ings since I was told what I was told a few months back.

The Clyne comment is from Clyne himself.

Les Reed's comments won't "look silly" if he goes. All he said was they were still talking. Only the desperate hang on to such vague comments as anything more than what they were: hopeful.

If United (or any CL side) comes in with £20m or so for our right back he's off. Couldn't give a monkeys what any forum supposed ITK gimps say in May. If Clyne signs a contract extension he's staying for one more season.

Let's just see what happens.

"I'm confident we will have a resolution sooner rather than later," said Reed. "I'm in discussions and those have been very, very positive."

Koeman:

“Still confident that he (Clyne) will sign a new contract but I think next week we will know more about his situation."

They obviously have a belief he will stay, and have both said more than just "we are still talking."

Something clearly changed in the last few weeks, with Clyne changing agent and Utd perhaps deciding they didnt want him any more, because if they did then the talks with Reed would have been very quick: "Thanks, but no."

You want to quote that and clutch onto it like rosary beads then crack on.

If you're incapable of reading between those lines then that's your problem not mine.

He'll go if the money and opportunity is right. He'll stay if none of those three or four clubs want to lump £20-odd million on our right back.

But it won't stop our old friend Charlie trying to position himself so he's ready to spring into action.

Thats what I mean, I think he will stay now because for whatever reason the interest of those others that was there, isn't anymore and that is why Reed and Koeman have been sounding positive.

Of course that could change, but if United or anyone else were lining him up then he wouldn't been in "very very positive" talks with us.

Lets hope he stays anyway, few would have thought we could keep him and Jay earlier in the season.

Because I think there is a good chance of Clyne staying?

I get the feeling if I thought he was leaving you would also say the same thing.

Play the post not the poster.

We will see this week or next. United were keen on him before but seem to have switched their attention elsewhere. Maybe thats a bluff, who knows. But Saints are more confident of keeping him now than they were in March.

At least you replied though, even if your opinion is different. Thats fair enough.

I was confident on Clyne, having heard from someone I trust who spoke to him at the awards dinner - I am less confident.

He said "we'll see" to the person who asked him on my table and seemingly most others who asked - pretty much all he can say.

Did your pal get something more in depth?

He said "we'll see"

That's what we used to say to the kids when in fact we had no intention of complying with their demands for tree houses, mega Meccano sets and Electric scooters. After a couple of days they usually forgot about it anway. I think your friend is supposed to do the same.

Likewise.

And from now until the end of August this forum will be full of utter helmets (more so than normal) pretending to know this and that, whinging about signings/no signings. So for that reason, I'm out.

Not sure what's worse -ITK fantasists or the helmets who, in response, declare to the world they're 'out'. Its not Dragons Den.
