Favourite Saints Goal and why...

probably done before, but all the neagativity is really getting me down!

For me it was Barry Horne's late equaliser against Bolton in the FA Cup , I was just about to leave with all the other non-believers when he let fly. To this day I have never left a match early because of this. Although I was tempted at 3.0 down against Watford this season.

Either of MLT's goals against Newcastle 93/94. Such a great afternoon/evening, cracking atmosphere on the Milton, Keegan's first return to the Dell as a manager, MLT recalled to the side as Branfoot bowed to fan pressure and then stuck two fingers up to his manager in the best possible way. All ingredients for a brilliant game. For all the anti Branfoot/Askham demonstrations at the time (probably more intense than what we have at the moment - yet), it was still great fun to go and see Saints play. For me, those were the days...

Camara's winner against Norwich the season we went down.

As that ball went in, I was convinced it was a sign that we'd battle through and avoid relegation.

Clearly I was wrong!

That's a good shout, I also had 4-3 at 100-1 that day so for me it was as good as it gets!

Dare I ask how much you put on that!?

That goal for me too, the elation and hope it gave when it hit the back of the net, I've felt nothing close to it in my lifetime. Even the semi final v Watford.

I dont get to many games unfortunately but i was at the Norwich game in the relegation season and iv never celebrated a goal like that.

Thing was though, i was back row of the northam stand, dead centre. I couldnt see the score board at the other end and the half had seemed to go really quickly, me and my friends thought it was about the 75th minute until we ran down the steps to see 88th minute... made the celebrations a bit better

Always remember niemi catching a cross in injury time aswell, and the crowd cheering like we'd scored a goal. What a great game

Also went absolutely crazy dancing and hugging people i dont know at uni when rasiak slammed home the goal at derby to take it to extra time. The bar was packed with non-saints fans wondering what the celebrations were about. Brilliant

I know it shows my age but it's gotta be Steve Moran in '84 against the Skates.

He also got my 2nd favourite when he scored the wiiner in the last few minutes at Liverpool in the early 80s after Katalinic had somehow kept it at 0-0.

3rd would either be MLT in the last game at The Dell or Camara v Norwich.

Favourite Goal, don't you mean list of favourites ?.

I've always been fond of the long distance efforts; Ivan Golacs rocket from the right wing. Brian O'Neils shot into the Milton goal (though he was JUST inside their half at the time.) Nick Holmes' incredible strike into the same goal and any number of efforts from MLT, but especially v. Blackburn - leaving Tim Flowers on his a** in the back of his net.

No sorry - I can't isolate JUST one..and in a way I'm glad 'cos it devalues all the other great goals by players who don't score so often.

For the one goal of his career - you'd have a job to better Frannie Benali's.

Theres been so many it is nice to think of them and the good times for me

1 Booby stokes I was at Wembley aged 8 going mental the day I fell in love with the Saints

2 any goal against the skates BT Pahars and Crouch stand out

3 Raza play off semi at Derby what a atmosphere !

4 The winning goal against Sheff untd last season

Those are the one's that spring to mind and it has me thinking of happier times good thread

UTS!

That Camara goal V Norwich seems really popular but means nothing to me. Celebrated at the time but just has bad memories now. And I didn't even celebrate Higgy scoring at Selhurst Park despite everyone going mental around me. I knew it wasn't enough and just wanted us to get on with trying to score a winner. I am great fun at parties.

For me at is Le Tiss V Arsenal, Pahars V Everton & skates, Horne V Bolton and one that I think was celebrated at least as much as any other at St Marys, Marsden V Wolves in the Cup Run (which seems to have been about 60 years ago now)

Denis Hollywood's own goal, when he stopped it on the line, then side-footed his pass to the goalie over the line! It was all so slow-motion!

I remember that but can't recall who we were playing.Lurking in the back of my mind is Leeds c1970 or 71.

I picture Eric Martin on lying on the goalline trying to collect the ball, with a quick slight of hand and arm to make it appear as if it were still in play.Or was that a different monumental balls up.

My favourite Saints goal for quality was MLT's first vNewcastle in the 2-1.

My favourite for sheer joy at the time Steve Moran's last minute goal at Nottarf Krap 1984.

Pahars v Pompey, although my shins caused me great pain for at least a week afterwards due to the ridiculous celebrations... well worth it though.

One of the few games I've got back for in the past years.

Worth every moment squashed in cattle class for 8 hours

But also nominate Alan ball v Coventry in the 5-5 draw, the crowd had been on his back and he made a mistake that gifted them a goal, straight from the restart - pushed someone out the way, about 10 steps forward and (no doubt with a red mist) just fook hit it. Keeper never moved

Not original, but in no particular order:

Matt Le Tissier vs Arsenal, last match at the Dell. Got absolutely crushed in the celebrations but well worth it.

The goals in our win against the Skates just after Ted Bates had passed away. Seemed so just to get one over them after the way they were during the 'minutes' silence.

I have a video of Rasiaks goal against Derby (playoffs) on my computer and it puts a smile on my face every time I watch it. That night will live with me forever.

As a young lad I always remember Danny Wallace's overhead kick v Liverpool in 1983 or 1984 I think. We had just acquired a Betamax video recorder and I taped the game which was shown Friday night on the BBC (or so my memory serves me as I was only 7/8 at the time). Re-played the goal hundreds of times, can still picture it now in fact, which is just as well as the tape only lasted about as long as Betamax - not that long.

MLT against Arsenal, last game at the Dell for the emotion of the occasion.

Barry Horne's against Bolton. I was standing behind the goal and it swerved all over the place.

MLT's first against Newcastle. I told my daughter at the time that she would never see anything like those two goals ever again.

At St. Mary's, Camara's against Norwich or John's winner against Sheffield United for the eruption of noise.

Know this may sound a little lame, but that goal at Derby this year was a fantastic experience. There with my nipper TTjr, best mates, several of you lot, some of the 'Soul Cellar' types etc.

We played beautiful, with a bunch of kids I've never hardly seen. Every manjack on and off the field was committed and yet the goal took what seemed like an eternity to come. The explosion of joy and (a shde false dawn) belief in the new Southampton...well you had to be there I guess Fantastic!!

Channon last goal for saints, against liverpool, goal of the season, best saints team goal ever

Yeah, what a goal. Missed it LIVE, as I was working. Seen it loads ever since. One of the best goals ever, bar none.

Tbh, though there are too many goals to have a favourite. Any brilliant Matty goal just makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Usually it's one I've quite forgotten about, and catches me by surprise when I view it again.

An example of which, is another goal against Liverpool at The Dell during a winter match, and the game had just started. Long ball up the right to Ian Dowie, who headed it down into the path of Le Tiss, who met the ball so plumb when he hit it that, from 35-40 yards out, the ball never got above a foot off the ground, and Bruce Grobbelaar started diving when the ball hit the back of the net. It was absolutely electrifying.

Of course, another Le Tissier hat-trick completed the night's enjoyment. Was there ever a better striker of a ball than Matty..? I don't think anyone comes remotely close.

First thread to bring a smile to my face for what seems like ages. Ah, memories.

Wow, prompted me to post as well!

Favourite goals:

Svensson getting the third against Hoddle's Spuds in the FA Cup - everyone knew we were going to spank them at that point.

Marians vs. Skates - pure joy.

Rasiak vs. Derby in the playoffs - fabulous support that evening.

MLT vs. Blackburn at Ewood - you could see me on Match of the Day going nuts.

Favourite own goal:

Franny's diving header at the Dell vs. Oldham at some point in the mid-90s.

awesome night..and live on sky too...was midway back in the milton and watched two of the best goals the prem will ever see right in front of me..and the 'red card' protest....

the newcastle keeper never played again after that i dont think..mike hooper I think his name was...that was the game lee clarke and keegan had a set too on the sidelines...

add the pahars v pompey goal was another beauty...just the day, the player and the fact it helped to put us 4th in the prem.

delap over head kick v spurs...the ground went mental.. was sat in the northam and ended up about 5 rown down after the carnage (that was when the northam was good and the "yoof" were seen and not heard)

another one...ronnie ekelund v ipswich at the dell...the ball broke to le tiss miles out from the ipswich goal, he went for a ridiculous shot which hit the woodwork (i think) and ronnie ran in a smashed it in....just a joy to watch.

le tiss v arsenal in the last game at the dell..enough said.

-----------

my top 5 goals which I saw live...for all different reasons
