I would actually quite enjoy a retro football manager game - with the league structures, finances, and wages etc. from back in the day - crucially before it became the rigged big business shitshow that it is now.

I found 1993 online, which is the edition that I first played. Still as addictive as ever.

Very keen for us to get another right back, don’t rate Sugawara or Bree at all.

The fact almost every suggested team in the Ipswich thread has Sugawara playing despite him being shite in the first game says everything about our options. If we could find a gem at that position it could change everything in defence and attack.

I know. But it's the words that are tokenized and embedded, not individual letters

That's odd, because it was my understanding that those deals were not wanted as it screwed us in the Prem last year.

It doesn't screw us IF the player is good enough for the Premier League. Big if on that!

Well, THB and Downes screwed our investments last Summer as we had to spend near on £40m to go backwards.

That doesn't mean other loans to buy will. Judge them on their own merits, not that of others.

Can't decide if it's Dusty Bin or the Mini Metro...

No, the point is it is money that we won't want to spend next year as we need every penny of PSR to try to be even mildly competitive.

True, but if we keep both and go up because of them, and put better players around them, it may well be a better long term sound investment. THB in particular will be a top flight player for years to come IMO (although probably not top 6 material, he'll knock around mid-table/lower table clubs at least - which we can only hope might be us).

I don't think he's a top flight player now TBF.

Lovely. El Khannous next please.

And yes they're probably looking at us potentially selling Dibling and MF but I think we're stronger without our key players than they are with theirs.

Exactly.

loans that work: Romulo was a loan to buy for Goztepe, it was so successful they bought him properly early, and they've now made a fortune.

So does that mean he won't be playing against us on Sunday?

Starting to think that it would be good if Tyler Dibling doesn't sign for anyone else because he'll then have the opportunity to show us his real potential...because we need a winger.

MLG will explain further but these AI models are generally trained on a word level, rather than letter level, hence why they don't do very well on tasks that involve understanding different letters within words.

Not responding to your comment, just wanted to say, Interpol - what a band.

The other good thing about this is it makes the West Ham offer for Fernandes look as daft as it truly is. £37.5m for someone who had less impact going forward than Fernandes and had a decent striker to supply and a team that was far less shite and who didn't have to adapt to moving overseas and didn't have 3 different shit managers.

Amazing profit on him.

I'm yet to be convinced by Archer.... on paper, he's a good player at this level, but he just seems to be anonymous in games a lot of the time.... not sure if that's purely down to lack of service or if he's not "putting himself about" enough...? A player like Ings, for example, if he wasn't getting any service would say "f*** that" and go hunting for the ball himself, whereas Archer seems content to wait for things to happen rather than make things happen. Just an observation although, admittedly, I've not studied him avidly (so every chance I'm talking nonsense, for a change....)

Did you ever watch Rasiak?

Listened to a good Ipswich podcast and they are quite worried about their squad depth. They aren't a shoe in to win the league.

A wall collapsed at full time and luckily no major injuries ( my brother in the crush) as fans rushed to get on the pitch

Can’t believe that no one was seriously injured in the crush when the wall went over.

You may not remember but earlier in the year (1978) Chelsea had played Orient at Brisbane Road ( in the FA Cup I think) and the wall had collapsed after a surge in the crowd. This made the news as it was considered deliberate vandalism at the time.

I was near the front as the surge happened after the final whistle, and there was a feeling coming down the terrace from the back that “that fucking wall has got to go ..,”. Eventually it did and at that point it was quite a relief.

Saints fans had a bit of ‘mischief’ and adventure about them in those days.

Any of idea of from where ? (Country etc, given location of  your contact)

I like the look of that Louis Patris (obligatory YouTube highlights video caveat). He looks aggressive, pacey, decent passing and crossing. In the highlights mostly at RB, which is good as we clearly don't need another CB. 4 years on deal and rated as 3m euro on TransferMarkt.

I'm sure Sugawara also looked good on his highlights video though, so who knows.

Looks the part in the video doesn’t he ?

I don’t understand why his club might consider releasing him for €3.5m though having not long paid this for him.

unfortunately not. The source is in the club and yes they would know about any transfer dealings going on. Said person thought that once the player in question is announced that i would be excited about it! For very obvious reasons no more questions were asked.

Noticed you said the same last Sunday, assume we’ve been working on the deal all week and now is close to completion? Glad we are looking in this position

Did nothing of any use apart from bang score 18 odd goals a season no problem thank you very much.

Hoping Downs or indeed Archer can be as "ineffectual" as that.

Right backs are tricky to recruit.

Wing backs can't seem to defend well. Good in a five

Full backs don't offer much attacking. Solid in a four

Betrand had about the right balance. Could defend and ok getting forward.

This bloke looks bit of a tree good defensively but won't go past anyone and doesn't look to have a cross .. but haven't seen enough of him.

Just signed McAtee from Man City as well !!

Hate how Man City get a massive sell on clause as well as £30m for a totally unproven PL player. Forrest (and similarily us in the past) take all the risk, and City none. The big clubs have it sewn up.

another player with the physical attributes we have badly lacked in recent years. Tall, strong and fast. Not sure how good he is technically but some of his passing looks OK. Hard to gauge quality when you are looking at the Belgium league IMO.

Is the guy (no 91) he keeps setting up early on one of the strikers we are were linked to/mentioned on here or a I confusing him with someone else?

That sorts out Ipswich's finances. I wonder how much they will have to spend on a replacement or have they done that already?

Yeah, striker was linked to us and a few other champ clubs this summer.

I think that’s Bertaccini whose name appeared on the thread at some stage.

Leicester still have a fairly strong squad with creative players.

I didn't see much of them last season. Did they actually replace Dewsbury-Hall?
