I fundamentally believe that any player we bring in should be able to play 90 minutes more often than not. If Downes or Charles picks up my injury for a month or two, how is a guy who’s only fit enough for half an hour here and there any use?

I don’t know to what extent his legs are gone, he was never the most mobile in his prime, but I just can’t envisage him bringing ‘freshness’ to any team.

Romeu played in 25 league games in the Spanish top flight last season at an average of almost 60 minutes per game. I don't think he will come here but that's pretty good at 33 I'd say.

Romeu is still twice the player Downes will ever be. I’d have him back like a shot, not least for his leadership on the pitch. Technically brilliant and still fit and strong enough, I’ll bet.

I have lost count of the amount of times i have had to say this. He is not coming back and he would not be able to do it in the Championship. I absolutely loved watching him in a Barca shirt and he had the odd decent game but he is definately not up to the Championship now and it was a very odd signing by Barca at the time.

Love the man too bits but we need to move on!

Signing Romeu when we have 3 of the best CM's in the league in our squad and are currently playing the best one of them out of position because of a crying need for creative midfielders seems like a really dumb idea.

Plus the whole point was he wanted to finish his career in Spain, I thought

But we won’t it’s just wishful thinking based on how he was here before not that its happening.

Sesay is the back up so we won’t be signing a 4th with our bloated squad.

Wonder if Spurs might go in for Dibling now Eze looks like he could be off to Arsenal.

Not necessarily aimed at DT, but those calling for Romeu to return really need to get over it.

He isn’t coming back. It’s like watching a crazed ex be convinced that they can rekindle their romance.
Or a stalker. 🙄

They've got the offer already written out. Just cross Eze's name off and replace with Dibling. Job's a good'un.

You're right. If you search Dibling on twitter there are Spurs fans crying about how "they're now going to end up with Dibling or El Khannouss" 😂

Aribo and Smallbone out, Romeu and Azaz in would be very nice indeed

Agreed I think they would work very well together but I wouldn’t want to sign Oriel and not Finn, though I wouldn’t mind just signing Finn and not Oriel. So I guess what I am saying is don’t offer Romeu a contract until Azaz az signed iz.

Coat please someone.

Would be pleased with this. Hot prospect and knows the league.

He's 24 and easily one of boro's best attacking players by all accounts. Their fans seem incredulous that they'd sell a 20 goal contribution player to a division rival for £12M.

23 goal contributions in 24/25 from 45 appearances.

21 goal contributions in 23/24 from 45 appearances (between two clubs).
17 goal contributions in 22/23 from 34 matches (league 1, but equally when he was fairly young).

image.png.d309f94c7ed8281548d5e78b021036b2.png

That's a very consistent output.

If we were selling him we'd want a lot more than £12M... lets see how this plays out. Will need to get him in before a big sale is agreed for Dibling/Fernandez, otherwise the price will go up.

Azaz seems like an alternative to Spertsyan position wise, albeit a different profile - less creative, more powerful.

Good player for this level but not sure he would make much of an impact higher - probably quite far down our original list.

Can we at least sign the guy and let him play for us in the league we’re in before we write him off for a league we’re not in?

Jose Fonte is still playing top flight football, surely he could do a job for us

He might not be PL quality, but he's two footed, sees a pass and has scored some nice goals.

Basing that on what? His stats at Championship level are probably the best of any mid in the league over last two seasons. He’s only 24 - why do you think he won’t make an impact higher than championship?

It’s funny some guy from Russia 99% had never heard of is the best thing since sliced bread all of a sudden, but an Irishman from championship who has produced 20+ returns for past two seasons and only 24 is at his level and not PL quality according to most.

Gotta love the logic sometimes hey

This entirely. No one on this forum had heard of this guy three weeks ago. I bet most hasn’t even seen a single clip on YouTube 🤣

Most appear quite happy about it...

Hadn't heard of either of them TBH. The Armenian looked decent in the live game I saw a bit of recently, his clips look good and he's been linked with some bigger teams....part of the reason we won't get him.

Azaz is well rated on Boro forums and stats look very decent. Yes please.

Who has said Azaz isn't prem quality? Regarding Spertsyan, the entire 90 minutes of the game on Sunday was available to watch.

I don't. Fernandes isn't a defensive midfielder. Not sure Charles is to be hinest. Whenever I watched him for Wednesday he didn't seem to play a holding role.

I wouldn't imagine Romeu intends to come back to England.

I have no idea, but Romeu loved living here and was often out on long walks with his dog along South Downs , I think he'd be perfect short term signing to add experience and good influence within the dressing room

Pretty sure he’s in the final year of his contract, so they wouldn’t need to finalise an option to buy.

With all due respect read between the lines here - if he wanted to be here he would be. If he was serious about coming why play last Sunday?

I may just be going on tweets out of Armenia but I would be gobsmacked if we are still pursuing this.

By that logic(?) Dibling and Fernandes aren't going anywhere this summer - which is good for us I guess.

I'm surprised the club is trying to get anything at all for this disaster. Mutually agree to cancel the contract and he can swan off to whatever unfortunate club he likes.

I think the 'finalisation' bit is just sorting out which one of the dozens of willing volunteers will be driving him there.

He might not mutually agree. May want paying up in full, or a "loyalty" bonus linked to a transfer fee. But I agree in principle that we need to bite the bullet and cut him loose.

He is. The inaccuracy undermines the credibility of the story a bit, but Nantes have bought and sold 30 players this summer, so could well be true - a total revamp of the squad, with plenty of foreign signings. The mistake appeared in a L'equipe item that appeared 9 days ago linking him with Nantes.

What makes you think Dibling can replace Eze immediately and perform well in the PL

I’m not certain he can or will in that Palace team - only that he’s got some similar characteristics - ball dribbling skills and playing off the wing.
Oh, and probably most importantly that Palace may try £35m cash plus sell-on plus Rak-Sakiy thrown in -and that might tempt Saints.
In any case I think Spurs are a better fit. The supporters would love his style of play- they’ve had magicians like Ardiles, Hoddle, Waddle and of course Gascoigne. They always appreciate that type of player. Though they will not want to pay what we want unless totally desperate!

YouTube keep suggesting this guy to me.

Aside from the Azaz rumour, he reckons three clubs are after BBD. One of them is Boro, maybe potentially a cash + player swap. I've not seen that mentioned elsewhere

We have a clause to extend his contract by a further year, if we wish. So if it’s a successful loan, we could activate that and then seek a transfer fee. Most likely he will continue to disappoint and we just let him walk free at the end of next season.

I’ve seen some posts online criticising moving from Spertysan to Rudoni to Azaz. Personally don’t blame the club for trying to get Spertysan and we will soon see where/if he goes. It’s only right to consider alternatives, especially those proven at the level we are at.

When it comes to Rudoni (who apparently rejected us) and Azaz (who we’ve looked at before), they are both 24 (room for further development) and play the same position. Goal contributions wise, Azaz has been more effective/consistent (23 and 21) last 2 seasons vs Rudoni (22 and 8 goal contributions). Azaz also looks like he would cost less. Remains to be seen if Boro would sell or if Azaz is interested but this argument that he can’t step up to the PL would be the same question mark for all 3 linked players.

What Azaz appears to bring is guaranteed 20 plus goal contributions at this level, we have better players than Boro and Plymouth had, so maybe scope to even improve those numbers. Seems like a very sensible and logical buy if we can make it happen. I’d be very happy with this signing.

Very well presented, I see he offers a subscription channel. The naming of the Channels and associated prices was amusing.

Is this the modern, enhanced replacement for the COT? and is he already a member of the COT?
