We've also been heavily linked. I can't see why this wouldn't happen. 1
Hopper Posted yesterday at 15:18 Posted yesterday at 15:18 Adds further weight to Scienza coming in as just Edozie to cover for Robinson at this point and likely on his way too. 1

Numbers-wise I still want another CM as I think we're light with 3 but beyond Scienza and Jelert, we're there. That's numbers-wise, not quality-wise, where we can all see the positions that can be upgraded. However our recent transfer activity does at least show that our transfer decision making has got better. You can only look at Spors for that. Hopefully come January we have one or two lined up that improve the team and that aren't panic signings.

sockeye Posted yesterday at 15:34 Posted yesterday at 15:34 I think Scienza will be the finale, unless we have an unusually large exodus (like 3+ plus) that would gather enough for an extra body in MF. Good luck to BBD, never really did anything here and needs to find his feet again 5

Stewart's stats since he joined us. So that is, 25 games in 3 seasons, 3 goals and 1 assist. I mean I agree, he's been an absolute liability. I'm basing it off what I've seen so far this season. I cannot watch another fucking moment of AA as a no 9, Archer is still hit and miss (great first half yesterday, offside liability second) and whilst Stewart's scoring stats do need to improve, so does the opportunity to do so. Downes looked great briefly in pre-season and more like a conference player since. It's not the best stable to pick from mind. Just IMO you get more out of AA on the left and one bigger man up front if our game plan is to cross it tons. 2

Hopper Posted yesterday at 16:14 Posted yesterday at 16:14 Did a bit of research with Chat GPT on the profile of Still's build-up and shot conversion and it appears there's much more of an emphasis on low driven assists over aerial chances. Worth a read, and makes me feel a little better about the 9 situation as it sounds like it would suit our current roster. --------------------------------------- At both Reims and now Lens, the profile of strikers and forwards under Will Still has generally not been classic “target-man” aerial specialists. Instead, he looks for forwards who: 🔑 Traits Still Wants in Attackers Mobile, Vertical Runners Pacey, direct strikers who attack spaces behind the line. Example: Folarin Balogun at Reims (22/23) — thrived on balls slid in behind, not dominant aerially. Good at Link Play in Tight Zones Forwards are asked to combine with wingers and No.10s in quick exchanges. That demands close control and short-passing vision more than height. Pressing Workhorses His attackers lead the press. He values aggression and stamina as much as finishing. Clinical Inside the Box, Feet First Finishing chances created by low crosses, cut-backs, and through-balls — meaning composure with either foot matters more than heading. 🏟️ Examples by Club Reims: Balogun (1.78m) – not aerially dominant, more of a sharp finisher. Jun’ya Ito (1.76m) – wide forward, pace merchant. Arber Zeneli / Alexis Flips – technical creators, not physical No.9s. Lens (2024/25 under Still): Lens historically had a more physical striker profile (e.g. Sotoca, Wahi), but Still still prefers them for mobility and pressing, not just headers. Elye Wahi (1.84m) – quick, direct runner, not an aerial-first striker. Florian Sotoca (1.87m) – decent in the air, but Still uses him as a versatile link-forward, not just a target. 📊 Overall Height & Heading Ability: Useful, but secondary. First Priority: Speed, movement, pressing, and foot-based finishing. Headed Goals: Come occasionally (back-post overloads, set-pieces), but not the core of his striker’s brief. 👉 In short: Still doesn’t build around tall aerial strikers. He wants attackers who can press, run, and finish low. Aerial strength is a bonus, not a must. 5

Regardless, what else did he do? He's never been prolific before and I've seen nothing that makes me think he's suddenly going to become so. Both AA and Stewart have at least been so, if in small sample sizes in Stewart's case. It's actually more of a shame that we've got 4 to choose from, none of which are actually any good anymore/ever have been. I think Stewart + AA is a better option than Archer or AA leading the line.
