I think their 'almost' season when we got promoted killed them. I thought they were a good watch, they had stacks of good players of which they did spend a fair whack on with loan fees, and wages - they built a strong squad for that level.

Feels a bit like our Burley playoff season, gambled a bit too much, failed and that was that. They'll probably be L1 soon.

It's not just finances though - their owner is barking mad.  His managerial appointments are generally bizarre and whenever he gets a decent one like Rosenior he sacks them.

Yeah the owner is a bit mental, he did come in with a big fanfare and promise them PL football etc - I don't think Rosenior was perfect though, I think he should have done a bit more with the squad he had (especially the 2nd half of that season). They should have at least got Top 6 IMO, certainly when the likes of WBA and Norwich got in there, and they didn't have Tyler Morton, Carvahlo or Delap.

Not sure he deserved sacking, but he should have done better that year with the squad he had imo.

I'll be amazed if they and Sheff Wed don't go down. No idea who the other spot will be, Oxford suffering second-season syndrome maybe.

Skates hopefully.

Not exactly #WishWeWereBirmingham but Kyogo has looked a really good player when I’ve seen him.

Furuhashi didn't last long at Nice then.  Didn't he only sign in January and for a decent wedge?  Clips I've seen of him at Celtic looked decent but lots of players look good for Celtic and fail elsewhere.  Shows the amount of money Brum are prepared to spend though.

Is this the same owner that tried to formally change their name to the Hull Tigers a few years ago and was told to fuck off by literally everyone including the FA?

I'd take the one on the right, but leave the lesbian.

So how are Birmingham able to spend all this money? They signed a very average young striker last year for well over £10 million and now all this. Wouldn’t their revenue be quite low from the season in League One? Bit like Ipswich buying the league a few years back, seemed to have spent miles more than anyone else but not at risk of PSR?

Some serious cash being spent by clubs you wouldn’t expect it seems.

Looks like a decent signing. Small though so not really one that fits our profile.

Look at how other clubs are setting precedent for accounting tricks, spend a fortune, if needed sell your women's team to a sister company to plug the gap. If you have owners willing to spend their own money it's quite easy

It just makes a farce of the whole thing doesn’t it?! Do Birmingham have one of these dodgy sponsor deals too like Wrexham?

What is dodgy about the Wrexham sponsor deals?

It will be nice to be one of the bigger fishes in the pond next season, but will we be more Man Utd than Man City - full of promise but ultimately still shit.

If we still have the likes of Manning, Taylor, Stephens, Taylor, Oribo, Armstrong, Archer and Smallbone playing, we're more like to do a Luton. Hopefully Still has a pair and bin these turds. I'd rather our destiny relies on the youngsters than any of these.

Wrexham have a lucrative sponsorship deal thanks to their huge global exposure from Disney documentary, particularly U.S. market. they can offer sponsors a lot more than other Championship clubs

No, Allam family sold up to the Turkish TV mogul currently owning them in 2022.

After looking at the fixtures and the state of inactivity and managerial appointment we will end up with 48 points. Just escaping relegation.

Its 'only' 12m ish for that disney deal. Its why they are going for old freebie players - owners don't want to put their own cash in. 12m makes a difference in the lower leagues, not so much for them now.

So who do we think main contenders for autos and top 6 are, as it stands?

Ipswich, Leicester, Saints and Sheffield United favourites to battle it out for autos?

Then Birmingham and West Brom just behind those 4 and the likes of Coventry, Bristol City, Norwich fancying a play off place too?

You can probably add Brum into the mix for automatic - they've got momentum and cash.  I reckon West Brom will fall off a bit and Derby could surprise a few people.

Ipswich, Leicester (I don't believe they'll suffer as much as others do), Sheffield United, Birmingham and ourselves are all contenders for automatics. I also think that Norwich will be up there if they somehow keep their best players. Bristol City I believe will fall away this year.

I know a lot of people are already writing of leicester because of a possible points deduction plus losing players etc, however they kicked off their preseason today, 1 week ahead of us!

The result matters not, apparently thet won 3-1 but no idea who they played.

They are obviously trying to get in the best shape as possible for another go at getting promoted first time of asking.

If that were true... they'd have a manager in place for the start of preseason... which they don't.

I think you will find it is the players that will be the ones playing the football and who's match fitness matters not whoever their manager is!

Lots of uncertainty at that place, no idea what their squad will look like come Sept.

They will have to sell, and I doubt they'll be able to add anyone. Be interesting to see who the manager will be, but he'll have his own idea of squad setup, style.

Bit of both, if a new manager comes in and completetly changes the style/shape of the team it will be a detriment to them.

All of those are top players at this level.

Luton over-achieved the season before when they got promoted. We'll be fine. We could be utterly shit and we'll still finish 6th minimum.

The manager decides the structure of the squad, what fitness levels are required, recruitment, the tactic etc etc. To sack a manager in late June and not have one in place for the first week of pre-season is clearly not "obviously trying to get in the best shape as possible" as you claimed.

What reason have they got for sacking their manager in late June and not having plans in place for the new season? It can't be PSR as they did it before 30th June! Just comes across as a mess and not organised or prepared at all!

Exactly. Teams are in pre-season already, a new manager will want time to implement a style, new tactics. 5 weeks until the new season is still enough time but not ideal compared to everyone else.

Leicester may be OK because they have a lot of quality but it doesn't bode well for them. At least we got our house in order in advance.

Barcelonasaint's point concerned player fitness, and was supported by his second post. Trolling that it's suddenly about structure willfully misses his point, and is a return to you being a bell end.

Not been following but has anyone said they wish we were birmingham yet ?

If they have please advise username as need to have a chief wet wipe for this season.

I was tempted, but it turns out it's not Lisa Stanfield playing up front.
