saintant Posted yesterday at 10:24 Posted yesterday at 10:24 Would have liked to see either Downs or Stewart up front as we are lacking height and power there. 1
SouSaint Posted yesterday at 10:24 Posted yesterday at 10:24 Quite a bit weaker than the starting 11 that beat Leeds in the PO final imo. 3
DG Posted yesterday at 10:25 Posted yesterday at 10:25 New manager, different league, clean slate and all that but I have so little faith. 3
macca155 Posted yesterday at 10:25 Posted yesterday at 10:25 I liked that team until I got to the strikers. No target man again. Solid defence and midfield, I guess the plan is to withstand the inevitable pressure. Take control and then increase the pressure in the 2nd half. Very safe perhaps a bit too much. 5
Lighthouse Posted yesterday at 10:26 Posted yesterday at 10:26 That's probably about as good a line up as I'd ask for. It suits the players we have available, with the creativity coming from the WB. I do prefer a back four but RB and AM positions are a bit of an issue until we get some players in. 3
notnowcato Posted yesterday at 10:26 Posted yesterday at 10:26 6 minutes ago, Saint_clark said: Fernandes on the bench is a pretty clear indication he's off, not just protecting him but also we won't want to get a false idea of how our team performs like we did with JWP and Tella last time. Would rather see Wood in for Stephens and Downs in for Fraser but hey ho. In still we trust. Matty was only back training this week, he wouldn’t be risked as a starter if he wasn’t off.
SWLondon Saint Posted yesterday at 10:26 Posted yesterday at 10:26 1 minute ago, RedArmy said: Back 5 again? Why are people down about this? We looked way better last week with 5 at the back. If it helps think of it as a back 3 with 1 pushing up when in possession. 3
kjurwi Posted yesterday at 10:27 Posted yesterday at 10:27 As folks has said, would have liked Downes or Stewart up top. Or many even Archer. 2

Probably because Still himself said he’d want to play a back 4 when he arrived. FWIW I agree with the decision to go 3/5. Gives us options up the wings. 2
obelisk Posted yesterday at 10:28 Posted yesterday at 10:28 The plan is evidently to really go for it in the 2nd half.🫣 1
James Posted yesterday at 10:28 Posted yesterday at 10:28 Pretty happy with that. Would have liked Fernandes to start, bench is ominous. If Stewart had started in place of Fraser with Arma on the wing I’d be much more confident. Don’t fancy Arma as a lone striker.

You echo my thoughts precisely. At least we have plenty of options on the bench.
Saint NL Posted yesterday at 10:29 Posted yesterday at 10:29 I expected Downs to start, but otherwise no real surprises.
tdmickey3 Posted yesterday at 10:29 Author Posted yesterday at 10:29 3 poor players in team but let’s see what happens
Scoobysaint Posted yesterday at 10:29 Posted yesterday at 10:29 That’s a pretty strong team really. Charles and Eddie were POTY at their clubs last season, now, would I lie to you? Admittedly it’s a bit weaker up front but Armstrong knows how to score in this league, Robinson can create and the WB’s will have freedom to attack. 1 1
CB Fry Posted yesterday at 10:29 Posted yesterday at 10:29 All the talk of height/power/etc so surprised that there is no big man up front. 5

Not as far as I recall. 2
notnowcato Posted yesterday at 10:30 Posted yesterday at 10:30 I think it looks more like a 3-4-2-1 when in control of the game. 5-4-1 when Wrexham are launching it into our box.

2Morrow Posted yesterday at 10:31 Posted yesterday at 10:31 (edited) Matched Wrexhams formations to try to leverage the talent differential as much as possible. Loads of bench options to change the game Love that will wants to play a 4, but isn't so rigid he doesn't pick the best formations for the players and game that are available. After signings, Fraser wont be near this 11 and I imagine a cb drops out for the CAM Edited yesterday at 10:31 by 2Morrow 3
SWLondon Saint Posted yesterday at 10:31 Posted yesterday at 10:31 Plan is clear, keep possession and wear them out in the initial stages. Expect to see it played to feet as much as possible or possibly into channel if Armstrong can get a run on them. No idea how quick / big their CBs are. 1

Harry_SFC Posted yesterday at 10:32 Posted yesterday at 10:32 (edited) Not got a problem with that apart from AA upfront. Everyone knows my views on that. Get Downs in the side FFS. Edited yesterday at 10:33 by Harry_SFC 1

Think like last night space will be at a premium. Wrexham will be in our faces so possession football is going to be tough which is why I would have liked to see a target man through the middle as an out ball. It won't be pretty and if we try to make it so we'll struggle. 1

Sheaf Saint Posted yesterday at 10:35 Posted yesterday at 10:35 2 minutes ago, saintant said: Agree. Has Arma ever worked as a striker through the middle? Not as far as I recall. No, but on the right of a front 3 was where he was very effective for us last time in the championship, and it looks like that's his role today. Just not sure exactly where and how Fraser and Robinson will line up.

AlexLaw76 Posted yesterday at 10:37 Posted yesterday at 10:37 Get amongst them from the off, they have half a new team playing.
Tamesaint Posted yesterday at 10:37 Posted yesterday at 10:37 Think that something must be wrong. After seeing that team I am beginning to feel confifent about today.
Oisin Posted yesterday at 10:40 Posted yesterday at 10:40 8 minutes ago, Saint_clark said: As it hasn't been posted yet... Think the 4 in the 343 look really strong. Happy with the back 3 (as happy as you ever can be with Stephens but without THB …) Delighted for Robinson to get the start - what a moment and opportunity for him. Id rather see ArmA wide right and Downes cf but otherwise pretty happy. Only disgruntled with Bazunu (resigned to it) and Fraser if I’m honest. Shame Sessay didn’t make the bench, thought he’d earned it. Not sure on the need for 4 strikers on the bench either. Not quite Bompey last year but a waste of at least one spot. Have some balls and leave at least one of them out. Sun is shining, feeling positive. C’mon lads!!! 5

coalman Posted yesterday at 10:42 Posted yesterday at 10:42 That's a strong defence and midfield. Excited to see what Downes and Charles can do in the middle and we're going to get crosses in from our wing backs. Fraser up front is a bit meh and Armstrong not the greatest focal point but I think he's, at least, getting service.

sockeye Posted yesterday at 10:50 Posted yesterday at 10:50 (edited) Satisfied with the team. Hope we shoot right out of the gates. They aren’t used to top quality opposition so could shell shock them. Edited yesterday at 10:50 by sockeye 1
V.Johnathan.Wilson Posted yesterday at 10:50 Posted yesterday at 10:50 (edited) In Will's system at Lens the full backs push really high, they're more like out and out wingers so I think it'll be a different kind of 3 CB system to ones we've experienced in the past. Edited yesterday at 10:50 by V.Johnathan.Wilson
Saint_clark Posted yesterday at 10:51 Posted yesterday at 10:51 The only confusing thing for me about the attack is that Still likes to mix up short and long passing. If we're going direct there's nobody there who could bring it down, take a touch and play someone in. With that line up direct play can only mean balls over the top, and I highly doubt Parkinson is stupid enough to play a high line in the championship like Wrexham have been all the way up so far.
suewhistle Posted yesterday at 10:54 Posted yesterday at 10:54 I'm in a mild state of Shakespearian era inebriation so am managing to avoid too much worry. Bench looks suitable for significant positive changes but I'm hoping Robinson avoids the need to be desperate and they can be used to add to a convincing win. Buzzy in the pub, let's hope we can maintain the positive atmosphere. 1
Thereisonlyonemickychannon Posted yesterday at 10:54 Posted yesterday at 10:54 Midtable this season. We just don't have the players 2 2
