Our chief scout Tim Lederer, worked at Hoffenheim last season. Johannes Spors will also know the German market.

It's about time we took advantage of this type of knowledge. It pissed me off that Ralph joined us and didn't help unearth any hidden gems from Germany for whatever reason.

Yes but does he know the market in Marrakesh?

Completed 9/9 long balls attempted in his last match so will fit in to the system well. Brilliant tackler and dictates play from deep. Just what we need in the middle and some proper competition for Downes at last.

Where you getting this briliant tackler from? Admittedly the highlights video I watched was from 2022, but it didn't look like he was the sort that tackled much at all. If he has added that to his game, brilliant, but it surprises me to read that.

Are you currently lost? It can be really confusing.

Well he averaged 3.4 per game last season which was more than any other player in Bundesliga 2.

This is the kind of signing I was expecting Spors to be making all summer. Hopefully he makes a better immediate impact than Damion Downs.

Exactly - this is exactly the kind of signing we need to be looking to make. We can't just go out and buy proven players - we need to find them before they become so well known and that is what Spors and his team need to deliver. The proof will be in the playing ultimately. For now - in Spors we trust.

Having had a dig around a few sites, Janer's name does pop up as one of the rising/ potential stars of German football for CM - so there is something there....hopefully he achieves it with us.

Spors joined us in Feb 2025 when our kit manufacturers were Puma. Therefore he would never have worn Hummel made Saints apparel. Another fail.

Someone I know that watches nurnberg every week:

”he is brilliant. Surprised he’s coming to you guys. Thought he’d go straight away to the Bundesliga”.

Interesting one

From what I've seen / read, I think he looks pretty decent, if I'm honest.

Guess I shouldn’t rush to judgement… Matty aside, some promising news today.

I like the sound of this guy, everything seems to be very positive about him. Seems like most people expected him to end up in the Bundesliga so if Spors has pulled this off and he's anything like he seems then he gets a massive pat on the back.

Yep. I know others might not agree but I certainly don't think picking out the best players from the Bundesliga 2 is a bad thing.

Maybe it's because we are offering a reasonable route to the Premier League as well if he backs his own abilities to get us promoted? We did it for Fernandez and perhaps we'll get a couple of seasons out of him if we're luck..

I know nothing of the guy but we needed another CM on top of Downes and Shea and we'll now have one. I'd like 4 CMs in the squad but we have Sesay if he doesn't go out on loan and Matsuki can play there, assuming Smallbone and Aribo are on their way out.

A lot of the time for players I don't know I gauge forum positivity or negativity as to how good a signing this is and this appears to be positive. So yay.

Really like the look of him he’s very diminutive.. first touch looks excellent and he looks good recieving the ball under pressure twisting and turning  a little modric like in the way he does this from deep .. no idea if he’s seen as a starter over downes etc but he’s a lot more cultured

I'd be shocked if he doesn't come here as a starter. Ok he may have to work his way in but you shouldn't be spending £10m+ on a sub in this league.

The players he is competing with to start (Downes and Charles) also cost over £10m.

£18m and £15m respectively.

All 3 of our cm’s are over 10m buys, so one of them would need to be on the bench.

True, but I can't see him coming here to be a backup player.

Then he has to be good enough to start, as that is what he would be

In fairness, we signed Matty as a 'future promise' kind of signing, he came highly rated after a loan to Estoril, but really having only played in the Sporting U21s.

Similar vibes to this one

Would Shea Charles £15m or Flynn Downes £18m? Might just rotate so they all get gametime.

Downes has been crap this season tbf. He was crap last season too. So yeah, maybe he should be.

Victor Wanyama also cost around £12m when he signed. Doesn’t mean he should be starting for us now.

The post clearly implied we wouldn’t be spending that sort of money right now for a back up. Charles and Downes weren’t signed in this window for that amount of money.

Downes isn't the most reliable either. Misses a few games through suspension and illness/injuries. Was very noticeable last time we were down here because we didn't have anyone else to cover his role. Hopefully Jander is the answer to the problem, and yeah I could see him pushing Downes out of the eleven as he's another who has suffered in form following the departure of Martin. Chases shadows these days.

From the clips i like the look of his build, he has that endurance bleep test god build that signifies an endurance machine.

Hard to work that into a chant though.

Haven't heard of him much, apart from my FM travels. He always ends up in top clubs on there.

His reviews sound top, looks like a player who will go on to hit top levels. A '6' is how I'd describe him, a deep sitting playmaker - absolutely exactly what we need.

6ft and 75kg, this appears to be the perfect size for a modern day midfield player from my extensive research on the subject

Wrong website for that kind of thing. And you probably need use a vpn if that’s your particular area of interest though frankly I have no idea what you are talking about. Only that it sounds disgusting and really you ought to seek help.

Wouldn't surprise me if Downes leaves late in this window. Don't think his heart has been in it since we sacked the snake oil salesman.

But Downes was really good in the Championship two years ago....

My feel on Downes is that his rep has been tainted by his actions in January. So, everyone is on heightened expectations with him - i.e. he's going to need to be amazing to appease us. I remember in our last Champ season he often did similar, gave away the ball, or left large gaps in CM - but he was still good.

Because of how he acted in January it's altered our opinion of him IMO. I wouldn't be sorry to see him go, as I think a fresh start would be good for both.

It wouldn’t have been a great surprise if Downes had joined Lego at Ibrox. But I suspect this might have been dependent on Rangers getting into the Champions League to fund it. Without that and uncertainty over Martin’s position it now seems unlikely
