Looks to be done according to Turkish press. Initial rumour was that he was traveling to have medical yesterday, so probably won’t be announced until Monday.

BREAKING | Elias Jelert has been loaned to Southampton.

There is a conditional option. (not mandatory)

This amount is also 8.5 million euros.

Looks like a €1m loan fee with an €8.5m option to buy. Can play both sides. Wonderkid on Football Manager 😉

Don't know anything about him, but it's good that we've got more reinforcements at FB. With Wellington out for a while we need someone who can actually defend at LB, because Manning is a liability.

If he can play on the left, would get him in straight away, he’s scored two free kicks but Manning can’t defend.

Seems very promising, but not sure if he's here to start at LB, or give bench cover for both sides. 

Sounds like the end for Bree, and possibly Taylor. What's gone on/wrong with Taylor is a bit odd though. Personally I'd have him at LB in a 4.

We are definatly making some signings that are promising on paper and face value

Does reminded me of a comedy scetch a bit, along the lines of playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order. Making good signings of player quality but not necessarily in the right positions. 👍

When you look at his pedigree, Champions league last season, Europa league with Copenhagen, U21's in the summer and Danish senior prior to that - he has no right being in the Championship. Based on that alone, it's a ridiculous addition.

Sounds like he's a right back or left back, but also offers the versatility to slot into CM - so maybe we have our CM too?

Yeah, he has a good CV doesn't he, especially for the Championship. Two time Danish league title winner and played 20 league matches for Galatasary last season, who won the Turkish league.

With Roerslev looking so comfortable at right-back, I guess it's safe to assume Jelert's coming in as a left-back for the first instance and then right-back cover should anything happen to Roerslev. He could also be seen as the long term right-back if we get promoted as he's still got a lot of growth and potential, while Roerslev is at his peak. Two Danish full-backs.

But, yeah, despite his free-kicks this season Manning has been a weak link in the side and was the same two years ago. Left-back needed strengthening, wasn't a priority, but a good move from the club.

Wasn't expecting another LB, maybe Welington's injury forced out hand? I know nothing about him. Hope he's as good as everyone says.

Considering we have sub-standatd players in virtually every position going into this season I'm afraid that you are missing the jokes that have been on full display for the past 3 years at least.

The loan fee looks very reasonable indeed  compared to the option to buy , assuming he is even half decent. Or is the “option “ to buy binding in some way, making the loan payment effectively a downpayment ?

It is an option to buy, not an obligation to buy

Their fans seem a bit disappointed to see him go - it appears their manager isn't a fan of younger players.

They say he has great potential, is hard working and quick. Seems like his main weakness is strength - does look like he could do with hitting the weights.

There is a slight feeling of 2009,if we could get a Rickie Lambert then yes I'd be on board with this, until then I'm more reserved, we have failed so consistently in buying players these again are gambles, we needed a centre back to partner Wood (so we can play a 442 or 4411), a versatile full back (bought) and a striker.

I wonder why he was available for loan, and option to buy?   Contract running down, Galatasaray have better?

Galatasaray only signed him last summer (for €9m).

Missed the back end of last season with a knee injury. We'll see whether that's a long term issue or not..

A transfer that goes against modern football, there can never be a full-back in a 4-man defence, he is short and thin even for a wing-back, his nickname in Turkey was pretzel, all the players were heading over the back post.

Do you actually play football in Turkey or just drool over how tall the players are?

While the average height in the Premier League is 1.84, Southampton competed with an average height of 1.78. While the average height in the Turkish League is 1.83, Göztepe competed with an average height of 1.85. We were the team that spent the least in the league, and we won for less with our technical skills and physicality.

Messi is such a rare talent and example. Why would I take the risk of signing a short player? Jelert is a defender, and he's not a right-winger like Messi.
