Really frustrating to be one down. We have been on top in the first half. So frustrating that Arma's shot hit the crossbar and Leo couldn't quite guide it into the corner. Then we conceded from trying to play out from the back. Hopefully we can go again in second half and get back into it. COYR 😊

We looked fine for 40 minutes. Scienza shocking header, just get it on target and ask the question of the covering defender, rather than trying to find the side netting. Their goal also very poor. Don't play football around your own six yard box! We aren't Barcelona. Although, another example of our playing out of the back leading to a forced mistake by pressing from the opposition. If our players could learn to press teams playing out of the back that would be good.

We lose this, but not as embarrassing as I thought it would be earlier.

Well that was a lot better than I was fearing - we actually showed some attacking threat. Yes, of course we dicked around at the back and got punished... I guess you could have put money on that. Hey ho. More of the same in the second half, please - never expected to get anything out of this, it was all about the performance: and that was a decent performance in the first 45.

Saints best team on pitch. 500% better than Pompey game. But again stupid keeper passing mistake, when will Saints learn that keepers stop the ball going in net they are not out fielders dribbling and passing. Should have been 1 up before lucky Liverpool scored.

Thant’s Saints for about the last seven seasons. Miss chance after chance, before gifting a goal.

The Archer chance should be buried. Really bad miss IMO. How Scienza doesn't score, I will never know.

How has McCarthy still not learnt not to pass it stupidly across his box, he had plenty of time to not be an idiot and hit it upfield.

He'd been doing that most of the game to be fair.

How is Fellows on the bench? I’ve checked and he started for WBA v Derby in the 1st round.

Allowed to play for two clubs now, see Guiu at Chelsea. No idea why.

Brooks is still cup-tied, so we're allowed one exception.

Honestly think we need to not play THB or Macca again (or at least for a very long time until the rest of the club has settled). Stephens and Quarshie for a back pairing for me - and i'm in two minds about dropping stephens as well... the scar of martinball on our defence is just horrendous.

You want to play Bazunu 🤣

The sequence leading to that goal, we’ve looked to play backwards when it wasn’t on about 3 times, with much easier passes forward or safely into the channels. What the fuck are we thinking. And Macca, put your fucking foot through it.

That completely sums us up

Yeah, I was thinking exactly the same thing, we won it in midfield, someone coming back from further forward (dunno who) played a completely stupid ball backwards when he should have turned, that happened twice more and I thought we were going to give it away. Looked safe then that brainfart by Macca. 'sake.

Make no excuse for starting on a positive note because that really was a very good half and no way should we be behind. The 3 centre backs have been superb and far superior than Capt Jack and THB. Jelert has been good as has manning. Midfield buzzing around and forwards with good movement and decent press. We should score from AA's shot that hit the bar then 30 seconds later comes the usual goalkeeping howler under zero pressure. Real shame because up til then McCarthy had been faultless with some good saves. More positives than negatives and we look like a team tonight.

Who knew it, we needed a first choice keeper

Add a decent central striker to you know do that  put the ball in the net thing and we could be decent.

Again, who knew?

Macca doing Baz things 😂

Honestly is there another club in the whole league pyramid with worse GK options than us.

Baz keeper distribution is world class, that's the one thing we presumably all agree on.  McCarthy has better positioning, but he makes these mistakes every time he plays.  Baz all the way for me.

Like FFS. Can we just play a game without gifting the opposition multiple defensive fuck ups? Its a joke at this point. Teams don't even have to play well against us - they just wait for us to gift a goal.

Of the two, yes, but why can't we have better?

Why is he attempting that pass?

It's brainless

It is a ridiculous high-risk pass to a defender who is not a natural in that position with the ball

There’s the difference. We have an easy chance off the bar, and miss it. They get an easy chance and bury it.

We also fucked around when we won the ball back and eventually it went back to AM who fucked it up. Baz wouldn’t have done that, mind you, we’d have been 2 down by then.

Agreed. Macca is a calamity. Bazunu has to be let down by his defence first - macca just gives goals away left right and centre by fucking insane lapses in judgement/concentration.

What, and why ???

Is this subject to any time limits, before and after window closes for example?

It must be so frustrating for the team when the opp scores from our mistakes… we need some luck and some goals to show for the good play. You can see why heads drop. Equally, a Ricky lambert up top… and confidence would be so much higher all over.

Really pleased we've shown up and moved the ball really well. Such a difference to recent games. There have been patterns and tactics that look coached (gives me hope for the future) and carried out very well.

The goal = bad. Warning early on when another bad choice of pass let them in. These things happen, sadly to us a lot, and we do the happening.

Yep, I believe it's based around the window closing date

I swear I heard Matterface say that Liverpool can call on the likes of Salah, Szoboszlai off the bench.

has he had another stinker?

Yep, he should be looking at that and knowing it has to go long, there's no way Quarshie wants it on the inside there, it's completely brain dead. No words.

Macca has been superb and Butter fingers Buzuno lets in at least two goals in that half.  Macca is a great shot stopper. Yes he made a fatal mistake but still streets ahead of Buzuno.

The difference is we executed a fantastic bit of play to generate our 2 shots... Macca basically passed to the most expensive player in British football history whilst under next to no pressure, all inside the 6yard box. Its just appalling.

Who knows, maybe we will actually get a new GK in january and sell THB and the rest of the season will be golden and we'll do a reading under mcdermot.

Still shoudl be throwing a cup at his fucking head at HT. Not acceptable from a professional goalkeeper

And that's a shame because Wood hasn't put a foot wrong. Quarshie has been ok and Edwards is having a much better game today.

In fact, this is the most accomplished we've seen Saints this season.

Bazunu doesn’t save the two MaCarthy did and does his fair share of fuck ups

Baz has zero positional sense

Why play Stephens? Wood and Quarshie have both been far better than him tonight, Edwards too. Both Wood and Edwards confident enough to bring the ball out of defence and get forward under the pressure of Anfield. THB and Stephens are done for me after seeing that 45 minutes from our 3 CBs.

Decent showing, McCarthy always a brain fart away from a fuck up.  Liverpool obviously don't need to sit deep (low block for those who use fancy new terms) against us, which many teams in the Championship will so that's the test once we get back to the league after this little free hit.  Plenty of food for thought for Will with many of the players tonight showing more than the first teamers selected so far.
