Obviously the season hasn’t gone as expected and despite the recent few wins we are still 16 points off Coventry who look like an unstoppable train.

I know most fans would take a playoff place again but I’m pretty furious that we have blown a golden opportunity to add a piece of silverware this season. It still irks me that when we were down in league one and became that unstoppable train we got promoted both times without finishing first and a trophy.

This season was a golden opportunity for us to be streets ahead of everyone else. Leicester are in trouble financially and didn’t do anything in the summer and finally don’t have Vardy. Ipswich sold their best players and don’t look much.

We are clearly missing two big glaring pieces. Obviously it would have been hard to have kept Ramsdale, although even he should have known he was going to sit on the bench. It also looked like Onuachu wanted out which I can’t blame him after the ludicrous abuse he got from some of the fanbase. But hypothetically speaking, would we have won the league had we kept them two?

In my opinion yes. Ramsdale for me is one of the best keepers even in the premier league and certainly would be in the champ. Onuachu might be a bit limited but he’d score for fun in this league especially now we have actual wingers in Fellows and Scienza who can cross a ball. Just having a focal point would improve us. But despite what some say on here, he’s a proven goal scorer. He has 8 goals in 12 games this season in the Turkish league and has Trabzonspor in 3rd in the league. The manager has come out and said their improvement this season is directly down to him. For those that think the league is not much look at the squads of the big Istanbul clubs and they all play in Europe. I would confident bet he would have been the leagues top scorer this season and we would have won the league.

Not in my opinion. Ramsdale is massively overrated, hence the lack of suitors when we purchased him and when we went down. Paul was a novelty player but would have scored a lot, but wouldn't have played much anyway.

The reason we are where we are is Still was not a good fit.

Having any kind of centre forward would have improved our squad, as would an all round better goalkeeper. But both would have had to have wanted to be here, which I'm not sure is the case for either of them.

Since the tactics would have had them running through treacle anyway, it would be a no.

Can't believe people still mention Onuachu.

Just the latest in a long line of "better now they're not here" or "better when they're not playing" .

See also Matsuki this season.

I mean, we have people on here that rate Archer more than AA...

Hard to say, but we’d have looked a lot better in my opinion.

Championship is actually really poor this year and those 2 would have made a massive difference.

We saw the 1 game Ross Stewart was fit how much better we looked with a focal point.
So I think there’s a very good case yes.

I think the last couple of matches have shown you don’t need a lump up front to score and win.

Would Still have had more success with Onuachu? Maybe, but you also wouldn’t have had a performance as we did against Charlton with them in place.

Ramsdale on the other hand would improve our team hands down.

Thanks for semi restoring my faith in Saints fans. The above posters again abusing Onuachu are the real reason Saints have had years of misery. Awful awful judgement that has led to Sports Republic’s poor decisions. That might be a hard pill for some to swallow but the majority of you seals go easy on the dross and hard on the good players.

We seriously have people calling him gash and that he can’t score goals. Guess what? He scored again last night so that’s now 9 in 13. I get a bit fed up with the race card being played but I have to question if the above posters are closet racists. There is no other explanation for hating on someone that always tried his best in a team that wasn’t set up for him to shine and who shines everywhere else he has been before and after. He has scored 26 goals in 38 games for Trabzonspor whilst being a Saints player and at no point have we thought maybe we should see what they are doing to get that out of him. I know some of you dim lot only have a goldfish memory but Damion Clownes was what we got instead. Now tell me your abuse was worth it.

I'd give up mate, people on here are blinkered when it comes to Onuachu. Was he poor at Prem level, yes. Are we playing at Prem level, no.

In the handful of games he played in one of the worst prem teams ever last season he managed to equal the amount of premier league goals Armstrong has scored in two full seasons, yet nobody questions that Armstrong is a very good player at this level.

Ramsdale and Onuachu didn't want to play for SFC in this division, so not a case of the club wanting to 'keep' either.  The real issue is that neither was effectively replaced in the summer window, and the manager chosen for our promotion push was a poor fit. A majority of the fanbase realised this at the time.

The whole saga had SR written all over it. He was bought under Nathan Jones and you could see the logic in that. Until however, you consider that SR must have already had provisional plans to replace Jones, and with him, his stye of play. No following Managers had a style of play that particularly suited him. Until now. It's almost as if we bought him intentionally not to fit in and made sure he was gone before he could.

We all know he isn't Ronaldo but I do believe as a target man he could have offered a focus which could then bring in Armstrong and Archer, playing off him. Old school. I understand the justification for the original question, as whilst it may not be for the purists, wingers going at fullbacks, crossing in to the big man to attack the ball or knock down to a second striker, might be football at its most basic, but for all the Martinesque poncing about, it would make a refreshing and excitable change and makes me think back to wins at home to Liverpool back at the dell in the 80's.

A number of good points mixed in with lot of ridiculous points in this post!

Quite simply, no.

Onuachu has to be one of the poorest footballers I’ve seen.

recently, and we have still got a few,Downes and Baz......................

Couldn’t have afforded the wages of both I suspect, probably needed THB to leave if Ramsdale could be accommodated, if he had wanted to stay (unlikely).

Still no excuse for not getting a new keeper on far less wages than £120k or so per week though.
