This might be how we can get the most out of Fellows - by taking on the LB, getting into the corner and then laying it back (seeing as his crossing and shooting are both appalling). 

Stick them onto the head of Larin and we could be onto a winning formula.

Two link ups we didn't expect this season. JWP/Larin and Salah/Tall Paul

Reckon Matsuki would benefit from having JWP around. Pretty similar players so maybe a bit of competition but if we think Matsuki could develop into central midfield then there’s worse players to learn from.

Probably need to temper expectations that we’re not getting the player we sold in 2023. But he’s always been a solid pro who was regularly putting in the most miles on the pitch. Him Downes and Jander, yes please. And just give him the armband back, another reason to jettison captain Jack.

Not ITK but he was on £110/120k per week in the PL apparently and they had a 50% relegation clause. So would have been on £55-60k/week at WHU for this season.

i believe Azaz is now our top earner at £50k/week, you’d expect JWP will be on similar.

FLW think he was on £50k for this season at WHU.

Interesting watching his highlights from his first season at WHU before he got Nuno’d. 

Im sure I’ve read some posters saying his corners aren’t very effective, plenty of assists for WHU from them and even scored one. 

After this we have a 2 year period of not seeing enough of him to judge but I can’t help but feel he is going to be very effective at this level where set pieces can be very important. Much more of a goalscoring threat with late runs than any of of existing CMs too.

The more I think about this the more I think this could work out excellently. There's still a worry about balance and missing a central midfielder but JWP was excellent in his first season at West Ham. Then Nuno came in and they didn't get on and he's had a bit part to play ever since.. He will bring an brilliant mentality and set standards, obviously cares for the club, will be 32 soon but has excellent fitness so I don't think age will be much of an issue at the moment. We have never seen him in a saints team that is one of the bigger boys in the division and expected to go on the offensive against teams. Despite what some people say about crab football and being negative, much of that occurred when we were a small fish in a big pond rather than the other way round. Lets not forget that Charles got 3 goals last season and Jander got 2. I would be happy to wager that JWP will get more than both of them if he stays fit.

Just a bit of fact checking.  Charles scored 6 goals last season for Saints in all competitions.   JWP scored 7 in his first season for West Ham; one from a corner. He didn't score a goal in the following two seasons.

Interesting watch, not many West Ham players actually thank JWP for his deliveries from corners when they score? I'm pretty sure most of our team acknowledge a really good corner or pass?? I know Scienza definitely does.

It didn't need fact checking. I was referring to the league last season where Charles scored 3 goals and Jander scored 2. As I said, he had a bit part in a west ham team where he wasn't wanted by the manager and then a terrible Burnley side -both in the league above.

Indeed. 7 years younger than Messi, and a similar physical stature / engine. Loads of life left in him yet I would venture.

I doubt he’ll play or be in the squad tomorrow.

I imagine the media team and trying to decide how to frame his return. He didn’t leave under a cloud, but it’s a bit different to Lallana and Walcott where at least they left and won trophies before returning.

I doubt it will take much thought about how to frame his return. It will be obvious and the copy and media framing almost writes itself.

Wonder why the delay in the announcement if the reports were correct in saying it was definite? Never thought he'd come back because his wages would be too high, but presumably west ham's relegation helped that-- with a cut written into his contract.

Hope that there's not a hitch and/or they're not waiting to announce to coincide a positive with the negative of THB going.

There's no delay. They normally like to release it at a certain time and will be doing interviews etc (particularly for JWP who isn't some normal player.) Quite possible they will announce at midday.

Not sure why you think that he has been playing for West Ham has had a full pre season. He will at least be on the bench

allowing for the inevitable criticism from " the usual suspects * " on here, this deal may turn out to be the most 

significant signing of the season. Without delving into the record books ..I think Prowsey's goal tally is on a par

with the likes of Steven Davis and Dusan Tadic (based on assists / goals to games in the last 10-12 years.. or?

His contribution to the club's history.. years of service / appearances / etc must be as good as anyone you name.

 

For some*  ...the comparison between the previous "old returnees"  is probably obvious ...but I don't think

anyone should make accusations, at least until the season is in full flow, and then we can make judgments.
