I can see Leicester getting revenge today. We have very little on the bench to change the game with if it’s going badly…

And to all the comments about ‘the league is more important than the FA cup’, when exactly can we take the cup seriously?!

Not last season - fighting the drop, not the season before - going for promotion, not the season before- fighting the drop etc etc etc

Should we just not bother entering? As only the top 6 can win it (but not last season…) should we not just make it top 8 in the prem, just to save wasted time…?

I used to love the FA cup 3rd round draw etc. it’s been totally buggered for TV and ruined just like football in general.

Rant over.

Come on you reds !

When it isn't a choice between players playing in the league which we're now competitive in, or the FA cup.

That said, I wouldn't have rested first team starters who aren't playing through knocks, and are able to play twice a week. I'd be surprised if Bree and THB, for example, couldn't have played today.

For me the club are making a decision on what is best for the clubs future not what football fans romantically would like to see. If we go back to 1976 when Saints won the Cup there was not the Sky money and there was not the huge wages being earned by todays players. It is all about money today even if we do not like it!

Even if we a slight chance of reaching the Premier League then it has to grasped and the FA Cup play second fiddle to it.

Tbh Jelert is a decent enough player instead of Bree. Wood and Quarshie is as dodgy CB pairing as you can get though.

They've got Long behind to get them out of trouble and Manning will keep our left hand side locked down just like usual.

Charles not playing is a surprise as he hasn't played too much since his injury and with Downes and Jander fit too i thought it would have been good for him to get more minutes under his belt. That said Romeu and Bragg is still a decent enough midfield as long as Rom still has the legs. We need big games from Matsuki and Edozie and it'll be interesting to see big Cyle get a start.

Has a non-Premier League side ever won the FA Cup?

A non-Premier League has never won the FA Cup, but teams from outside of the English top-flight have won the competition before the rebrand of the Premier League in 1992.

And as sure as night follows day, the first round of "3-0 and you fucked it up" rings around St Mary's.

I thought they were singing ‘…..and you fluffed it up’

We look well balanced. Nice to see some of these lads get minutes I’m sure we will need some of them towards the end of the season. Edozie looks lively again.

For all the "respect the cup" stuff, the ground is half empty and I had to spend 10 mins looking for a stream from some obscure Australian TV channel.

Interesting that Blackmore was saying before KO that Saints wanted to give a free ticket to each of their ST holders but they needed Leicester to agree to that pricing strategy and they rejected. Ended up agreeing on cheapest priced ticket option but it’s a shame and you end up with a half empty stadium.

Seems the players are treating it with similar contempt. Neither team had a shot on or off target yet.

And as I type that, Ayew hits a very tame header straight at Long.
