I’m surprised he’s gone there tbh.

they are no doubt paying him more than anyone else offered. The Calvert Lewin signing was a good one last summer and on paper this is another. Those kind of moves are what turns you from relegation fodder to mid table comfort. I wonder if it impacts the Charles move?

It can, but it can backfire as well. Over the years we’ve bought plenty of stars past their sell by date. Some revelled in a last hurrah, whereas others never fitted in. Going way back Ball, Watson, Osgood and Mills were amongst the signings that worked, whereas Dixon, Speedie, Hughes and, arguably, the return of Romeu were all largely flops.

he's only 29 and coming off the best season of his career. Not sure he's past his sell by date. Dixon on the other hand was 32 and had only scored 5 goals the season before. Speedie was also 32. He had scored a shed load for Blackburn, but in a lower division. Hughes was 35 and Romeu 34. I think most knew there best days were gone.

I still think they'll be in the market for Charles, like you said, they are slowly moving towards a midtable side and even a player like Charles will offer some worth to achieve that.

Osgood was only 27 and in his prime when joined…

I guess we're just all trying to bridge the gap while we wait for some actual transfer news. After the peak of activity on here about the miscarriage of justice around our playoff expulsion, we had a congested period with the announcements of Peretz, Larin and Bree. But it seems that clubs and agents are currently operating on a delayed timetable because of the world cup, and we're all just looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, and let us know if the head codes tell us anything useful..

Any actual transfer news?

I don't log on this forum to talk about flaming Hornby club.... 🤣

No. None. Nothing.

But some great deals available on The Flying Scotsman in its original livery, and up to the minute news about track issues due to the heat.

Still, in three hours we can at least talk about our fixtures, and how quickly we can overcome starting the season in last place.

Good points! Do you think they'll keep to the original timetable?

I was actually pleased you'd reminded me but it unwittingly ended up on theme, sorry!

But are you a first class coach?

If you mean do I offer wider, more spacious seating, then yes, but otherwise no, more like a sleeper.

Close to signing Dan Neil on a free according to Sky.

Solid signing that. Was very good for Sunderland when they went up, not quite as good for Ipswich last season (according to their fans) but still. Guessing that's the replacement for Charles.

Saw that and immediately thought that it means the Shea Charles deal has gone through or is near enough deffo. Or is two and two making five here?

Guy who sits just across from me in the office is a Sunderland fan, his response was:

Dan Neil can be a Rolls Royce. Will help you win the Championship, classy on the ball, great passer, rarely loses it under pressure and keeps the team ticking over from deep. Knows his role and delivers. Think he’s got it in him to be Prem quality but just wouldn’t get in our team anymore over Xhaka

He said that Neil was the hometown hero and Sunderland captain before they signed Granit Xhaka and promised him the captaincy. That experience seemed to have knocked Neil's confidence a bit, so probably just needs some building back up

No YouTube yet?

Seems to like a cross field 40 yard pass to a winger a lot. Looks more like a deep lying CDM rather than box to box from this video.
