He played half a season it seems before injury. Not overwhelming references on their Forum though as someone posted earlier.

Fair point re the England U21’s.

Fret ye not... Dragan promised us a team that'll get us excited and up off our seats and I, for one, trust him to deliver on his promise 👍🏻

Question is do you consider that promise fulfilled if we end the window with:

Peretz/new gk

Bree/Roeslev Stephens/wood thb/Quarshie Manning/Wellington

Fellows/Matsuki Downes/Jander Bragg/new CM Scienza/Edozie

Azaz/Dobbin

Larin/Mubama

Obviously dependent on the cm but I think we'd be one top attacking signing away for me. Ecstatic that we didn't have to sell any of the other big fish though if it does happen.

I did rather think we'd be up for making one more high profile signing this summer if I'm honest (if we had kept Stewart for example would we have just signed Dobbin and the Charles replacement?) but maybe our financial situation is a little bit worse than I considered it to be. Obviously the window isn't shut yet it does sound like we would have to sell in order to properly strengthen elsewhere.

That’s a mid table premier league squad with the best fans in the world behind them. Nothing can go wrong. Everyone hates us too Which is brilliant

Arthur Dennis'in Coventry'ye transferinin gerçekleşmediğini görüyorum. Shea'nın yerine iyi bir alternatif olurdu ve Goztepe ile de bir anlaşma yapmanın zor olmayacağını düşünürdüm. Bu çok kulüplü transfer saçmalığından biraz fayda görmek güzel olurdu.

While the multi-club system poses absolutely no downside for you, the potential benefit is massive :) This transfer will happen if you pay 8 million euros. Alternatively, you would need to offer Jander as a replacement for Dennis.

Who the fuck is Arthur Denis? Is he a soccerballist? I can’t only find an Arthur Denis who is a Canadian liberal party member and if we sign him the only ones who will benefit are the Rainbow Saints

Edozie has interest from Rennes, Cardiff and a couple of Dutch teams.

Offer Edozie in a deal for James.

Archer's not a world beater but he's about as good as you can reasonably expect to get for 3rd choice CF at Championship level.

He’s a first or second choice for most Championship clubs, IMO.

We are unlikely to sign a third choice CF who is even as good as Archer, let alone better than him, again IMO.

I thought that Mubama caused our CBs a lot of trouble last season when we played Stoke.  I believe Tonda will help him thrive in our team and he should benefit greatly from the better service from both wings and from midfield than he got while at Stoke.

I’d be surprised if we have three strikers better than Archer, Larin and Mubama after the transfer window closes.  We then have to hope that Larin does not get a serious injury.  🤞

I agree with others that having BBD or DD as the third striker would consign us to another year in the Championship.

He's had a lot of injuries since going to Stoke but he is happy there. He's in the lasst year of his contract so needs to hit the ground running. Looking forward to seeing him at St Mary's in a fortnight. He's never played there since leaving. Stoke have spent a bit in the summer and there are rumours they are chasing George Hirst which will have an impact on Sam

Of all of the ones we look destined to get rid of, Archer is the one we should probably keep imo. We saw during last season's run in that we can use him. There is a good player there, its not worked for him at saints, but i don't think we'll get better than him for the money - plus he could strengthen a rival club potentially (if they use him in a way that suits his game). Potentially Edozie as well - depending on whether we can replace him in a financially sensible way. We need depth on the wings imo.

He scored 11 goals per season in the last two seasons he played for us, so not too shabby for a midfielder not known for his attacking prowess*

(* Yes, most of those were probably set pieces, and yes, he was 4 - 5 years younger)

If he is available at the right price, its a no brainer bringing him back imo -  He'd bring us quality, professionalism, experience - and is a player who we can take into the premier league next season. Although whether we can afford to do a sensible deal with west ham for him is another question 🤷‍♂️

Hes a good player when played to his strengths but he’s not good enough that the rest of the team should play to them. Hes  good option to have as a squad player but I suspect he’s on relatively high wages do that role

If we’re serious about top two then we need a second proven striker.

This Man City lad scored five goals last season - the first two came in the first two games and the final three were a hat trick later in the season.
Not glowing in terms of stats, but I appreciate he was playing in a mediocre Stoke team.

I have concerns about our wide players, all of them simply do not provide enough goals, someone with even an ounce of end product as a winger would allow us some attacking flexibility.

The centre of midfield is a concern too, that Shea Charles replacement is probably the priority.

That's fair. I just don't think i'd be shifting him unless doing so allows us to strengthen. He's the sort of player i could see doing well elsewhere this season (potentially at a play off rival for example), or coming back to haunt us in a crucial game etc.

I agree Archer showed enough towards the end of last season that ideally it would be good to keep him if we can to be our third "provides something different" striker option. I don't see him as a lone striker but he is good option if we want to go 2 up front alongside one of the bigger strikers, which may be useful when chasing a goal late in games. He's also shown he can be an option in the wide areas.

I think Ball was only 31 on joining us. Although past the prime of his career he had some years ahead of him, and a fantastic football brain to make up for his ‘older’ legs. Not many players of his calibre would drop a division now.

Agree with your  points though.

I never liked Alan Ball as he kept Terry Paine out of the 1966 World Cup team and on Boxing Day told Bob Wilson where Micky Channon was going to place a penalty at the Milton Road End at Christmas 1973.

We drew that match and hardly ever won again that season and eventually were relegated I met Bob forty years later and he remembered that penalty save as he was useless at saving them.

At Christmas 1977 I went to the Valley when we beat Charlton possibly 3 1 and saw what a great player Alan Ball was and convinced myself that we would be promoted that season which we were in a 0 0 draw with Spurs. It was the first time I saw Glen Hoddle play and he in my opinion was one of the best managers we have had in the PL

With regard to strikers when we have been promoted we have had top class Championship goal scorers Chivers Boyer/Macdougal Lambert and Armstrong so we need another one although Larin may become one but it is a gamble

He did well coming on from the left last season. Agree if we go 2 up top then playing off Larin he’d be a decent option. There is a good player there when used properly. Difficult to see a future for Double D now we’ve got the city lad in.

Once again, we have this in Diaz and Archer but it's widely agreed they aren't good enough. What we actually need is a striker who is good enough. Proven is not and should never be a criteria.

we obviously need a striker who can immediately come in and be good enough to start in the set up we have.

For me there was a noticeable difference in Archer toward end of last season and even the Colchester game. He has upped his work rate, seems to have added some pace, and is unfortunately only lacking the finishing touch. If he can start hitting the target he could be excellent. He deserves to stay, if we can afford it.

Mubama seems a shrewd signing to me, high potential and ideal back up. We're clearly expecting Larin will kick on this season and pick up where he left off.

Fortunately a great deal of our goals come from elsewhere in the team, I think this is down to how Tonda sets us up. Azaz being joint top scorer speaks to this and Dobbin looks an exciting prospect in that regard.

I suspect it's going to be very quiet until we've got a lot of players moved on now. Perhaps a few last minute loan signings for added depth still to come. Can't see us doing anything until we move on Downs, BBD and possibly Edozie and Archer.

That is why we wanted Stewart and the lad who went to Boro?

expecting Larin to be a 8-9 out of 10 for 40+ games is never going to happen.

I hope the new lad can fill the boots left empty by Ross Stewart

That is fair, but Stewart and Larin were ably rotated without a drop in quality. There were times when Larin was not having a good game at all, or even dropped for Stewart. They were both good enough to be the leading striker in a team pushing for promotion in that set up.

I am unsure Larin can be as good playing way more games/minutes. That just does not happen this day and age (hope to be proved wrong), so I hope the new lad makes the ball stick up top, makes it hard for the CBs and is able to score some big goals (just like Stewart was able to when called upon after xmas).

Lets be honest, signing Stewart would have been just as much a risk. We got 3 decent months out of him in the 4 years he was here.

What I'm saying is if we wanted Lankshire and the finances weren't an issue I'm sure we would have got it done. I do think there will be more business done but not until we've moved people on.

My read: Mubama and Downs replace Archer and Stewart's squad places going into this season.

Call it wishful thinking or being whet behind the ears, but I'm not ready to write Downs off just yet. Hopefully a full pre-season with a competent coach is enough to reset a dreadful first year here. Not expecting the best striker ever but I am anticipating a more effective player.

Happy to eat my words at Christmas when he's shipped out on loan again...

Wherever Archer goes, I predict he'll score at least 15 goals this season.

It's always tough seeing discarded players be successful elsewhere, but the key is what will he do for us if he stays? Will he come on a grab the odd vital goal? Might we change the formation when we are chasing games or even from the start if things are not working - enabling him to play more? If not, is his wage too big for him to be playing the odd game and if we sold him, could we spend that money (assuming it isn't swallowed up by operating costs) on a player that would offer us something similar but on a much lower wage?

Think it will depend on getting rid of Edozie, Ramsey, BBD and Archer. Sell those and there could be a decent chunk of cash for a striker / winger whilst significantly reducing salary costs

I'm sure the club are desperate for him to find his feet and succeed, but I suspect Tonda has seen enough and if a reasonable offer for him come in we wont think twice. Tonda/management wasted little time in getting him out the door in January. Loaning a young guy out so quickly after signing them says it all. We never do that.

I watched Boroughs cup game against Wrexham and thought both sides looked well ready for the start of the season, in fact i would say they were 2/3 weeks ahead of Saints in that respect and Boroughs new lad Lankashire was a real handful, got into all the right places and eventually got his goal after missing a few half decent chances. I think he will have a good season unfortunately!

Totally fair. Unless they thought: "this kid's confidence is shot, the fans are on his back and have made their minds up. Let's take him out of the firing line, tone down the heat on him and start again next season."

Maybe it's me doing 2+2=5, but if Mubama's the only striker we're bringing in and we're getting rid of BBD and Archer, he stays as third striker. Nobody's going to pay anywhere near the amount we did, so I'm sure the club are willing to give him another shot.
