SylvianSylvian Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago If we can get Peretz over the line, this is massive. If he signs then hopefully Larin, Stewart, etc could follow. In Tonda we trust! 2

Pwoite Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago With the changes to how clubs can spend and manage losses, the fact we only have one more parachute payment, P&Os announcement, and the departure of several high earners, I do wonder whether Dragan might be prepared to financially gamble in an all or nothing approach to promotion. Whilst we might not be able to stop some departures, might the incentives to stay and chase promotion be dangled in front of key players. After all, the financial risk of not going up is so significant that failure next season will mean massive cutbacks and a potentially prolonged period in tier two. The alternative of gambling that bit extra to get promotion might actually be pretty good odds. If I’m right, this summer could be another rollercoaster.
SylvianSylvian Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I think it’s worth reflecting on just how much Tonda improved so many of the squad. THB, Downes, Manning, Archer looked so re-energised and started playing to their potential…. Could Tonda get a tune out of some of our unwanted loanees… I wouldn’t put it past him. There’s more to the likes of Diaz and Downs than we’ve seen…. 2

SylvianSylvian Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago True, but no doubt these players would look better under Tonda than Still or Martin. Diaz has banged in goals for Chile…. Yet he looked like a Sunday league pub player at Saints….

THB and Jander would be my guesses. Also Charles if he doesn't want to sign a new deal. I think Scienza might stay though. I’m sure he’d be open to a move, but who’s stumping up the £25m+ we’d want for him? We paid £20m for him so would want a return and he’s already been found out in the Prem once, though that can be partly mitigated by the Russell Martin experiment. He does get found out pace-wise at times. Not sure any of the promoted sides will be spending that much on CBs?
St Chalet Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Peretz, like Boruc turned around a season for us. If he signs then we are good to go. Am sure we will lose two out of THB, Leo, Charles and Jander to pay some bills, but we’ve recruited well (sans Downs) and have other options. Bree and Larin deals and Stewart option would be next priority. 2
Saint Fan CaM Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Top news about Peretz and indeed P&O this evening - hope we get Peretz over the line quickly. Feels like there’s an intent in the players, so maybe Dragan will use investment funds to keep our better players with us rather than sell…who knows? 1

saintwbu Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago We also sold Edwards and Armstrong in January, without buying anyone, so we have brought a little bit of money in already. With Ramsdale and Sugawara likely to bring in fees this summer, maybe the need to sell isn’t quite so severe as we think. Charles is the obvious sell, not a regular starter but still seemingly in demand, whilst THB being linked away back in January makes it feel like it’s inevitable he goes this summer. Jander is the one i’d most like to keep, but equally given all the suggestion of being homesick for months, it feels like he’s probably off back to Germany. 1
JohnnyShearer2.0 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Where has Jander being homesick come from? Nobody in Germany is gonna shell out +20m for him. 2

Dman Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago imo, Jander leaving will be the biggest loss and hardest to replace. He's brilliant in pretty much every department. If the best THB can get is West Ham, Cov or Hull, would he not be better of sticking around for another season!? 2

Ideally with an experienced second choice. 3

Bob60 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I bet it's sign Peretz, Larin, extend Bree and Ross then hit is worth increased season ticket prices. Great start if it happens.

Saint86 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) If Saints have the money available within the PSR accounting period, there is merit to us getting deals done before June 30th. After that, the 3year rolling accounting windows no longer apply and we move to the new squad cost rules. Signing players before June 30th will mean that any transfer fee outlay this summer doesn't fall into next seasons, "squad cost" rules (i.e., 85% of revenue). Would be shrewd business to get a few deals in before the world cup... Doubly so for players like Larin or Peretz, as they're likely to be fairly key for us next season, and i suspect a lot of other clubs will be stuck waiting for the inevitable domino chain transfers to complete - which will push them after the world cup. Similarly, unless we "need" the money now (for PSR balance reasons), there is bugger all point making sales this side of June 30th - but make them under next season's rules and it increases our squad spend allowance. Could be interesting for teams like West Ham etc. as well. The guardian posted an article on them in May this year. They recorded a loss of £104M in their last set out accounts, albeit they are carrying a profit of £57M for the year before that. Apparently they're expecting a £70M-80M loss last season though... so basically they're right on the cusp of breaching PSR and its very likely they'll see at least a couple of big sales in June... Which is good news for their promotion rivals, as they lose that income from next season's income / squad cost allowance. Edited 1 hour ago by Saint86 1

SNSUN Posted 49 minutes ago Posted 49 minutes ago I was reading the Werder Bremen forum (yes I speak German, I just have to use Google Translate to do it 😁). Their fans really want Werder to take up their 6 million purchase option on Sugawara as he's been consistent but apparently they don't have the funds without selling someone. Their option to sign him is up at the end of the month. With Yuki at the WC it may benefit us if they don't take up their option if he has a decent tournament. I can't see him back at Saints, that's for sure.

LaptopSaint Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago I really hope Jander stays because I love watching him. And Shea Charles’s goals provided some of the best moments of the season. But if we only lose one of them, I guess I can live with that and we give Cam Bragg more minutes as well as letting Spors unearth another gem. I actually think THB would be the biggest loss but is the most likely to go. Huge if he stays. 1
