Assuming we don't get promoted this year how many players will still be around in 12 months time who AP hasn't brought in for next seasons promotion push(hopefully).

I reckon he will bring 1/2 more this window

Another 3/4 in Jan

And Another 4/6 next summer to build his squad.

I reckon Thomas,Perry,Wotton,Rasiak,Saga,Pulis,Molyneux and Boyle will all have gone.

James,Gillett,Lallana,Holmes and Morgan have it all to prove this season

The only ones I would confidently say will be at least in the squad if not the 1st 11 are Davis,Mills and Patterson.Gobern and Thompson should still be in the squad.

Shows there is much rebuilding still to be done over the next 12 months. Will be interesting to see who is left as I bet there will not be many

If all are fit

Davis,Murty,Trotman,Thomas,Harding,James,Hammond,Schneiderlin, Mellis,Saga,Lambert

Subs,Bart,Perry,Gobern,Thomson,Gillett,Rasiak,Paterson

I was going to put Thomson down to start but I am not convinced by him yet and he appears a bit lightweight. Could be a useful act as sub though if needed.

one of the 4 remaining places.....

With Kelvin Davis as first name of the team sheet, and AP's six new signings

WHO...... will fill the remaining 4 places ?

DAVIS

MURTY ? TROTMAN HARDING

? HAMMOND MELLIS ?

LAMBERT ?

SUBS : ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Here's my first team as of 20/08/09:

DAVIS

MURTY THOMAS TROTMAN HARDING

GOBERN HAMMOND MELLIS LALLANA

LAMBERT PATERSON

The back 5 picks itself now.

If Hammond's as good as we hope he is, we've got 3 options to partner him in the middle, in this order - Schneiderlin, Lallana, Melis.

James on the right & Mills left when he's fit.

Lambert & Paterson up front.

My first choice 11 would be:

Davis

Murty Trotman Thomas Harding

James Hammond Schneiderlin Mills

Lambert Paterson

Subs: Bialkowski Perry Gillet Lallana Melis Rasiak Holmes

Just cant have lallana in any team at the mo

He disrupts any team shape by his indisciplined wanderings. Besides there is no end product. I'm not sure they will but he along with the other youngsters should be sent back to be re-educated in the reserves and given appearances on the bench if they respond well.

Interesting that people a banking on the likes of Hammond and Trotman we haven't even seen them play yet.

Obviously I hope the fit well but just making an observation.

True - but one thing that seems obvious about AP is that he's buying and/or loaning players that he thinks should be first team regulars. Not reserve team bench warmers like last season.

A team that is not tinged with the losing mentality:

Poke, Murty, Trotman, Thomas, Harding, Mellis, Hammond, Gillett, Schneiderlin, Rasiak, Lambert

Only pre-Pardew Saints I would use at the moment would be:

Rasiak (not here last year)

Schneiderlin (used to success with France u21)

Gillett (mostly because there is not much option, but I think he is what we need in MF)

Thomas (didn't play under Agents Orange)

Poke (success with Torquay, used to winning)

I know the last one is controversial, but I don't agree that Davis should be automatic choice. He is part of the problem, not the solution. Great shot stopper, crap at corners, poor at kicks and distribution.

Once we get back to a winning/not losing mentality then bring some of the other players who are clearly talented back in. I cannot put up with any more of the negative football I saw on Tuesday night, back passes to the GK who then gives it to an opponent either directly or via a throwin.

There is nothing better than Davis available to us where we are right now. We may be able to get someone who can kick a ball straight and collect corners well, but they're shot stopping will not be as good - all the keepers who can do all three are playing in the Prem, La Liga, SPL etc.

Thomas, Lalana, Schneiderlin and Rasiak

My word - with those guys, you would think we would walk all over this league. Trouble is it doesn't seem to work much like that....does it? I am so hopeful of a turn-around game on Saturday. On paper we really should trounce the oppos.

Totally agree with everything you say. Apart from the Davis; for which the point you make is absurd.

Saying that..i still think Adam could do with a break from the team, but i'd like to see how he does in this sort of position and shape first.

It totally make sense!

By playing in that position he isn't ''directly'' affecting the teams balance, as we still have Mills out on the left. (ok he is injured atm..but you get my point)

Also you'd think lambert will hold it up, move it on, flick it on etc...adam could kind of play as a 2nd forward - i think he'd be great there...i just wish it would be tried!

I was only thinking about this this afternoon as to who would be out of contract at the end of the season or heading for the retirement home. It doesn't look good with so many potential changes to the first team squad.

My team at the moment:

Davis

Murty Thomas Trotman Harding

James Hammond Melis Mills

Lambert Saganowski

We need a right winger badly and maybe another striker because I presume some may leave. A CB would be nice as well.

How could you leave Paul Wotton out ??? An outragous oversight!!!

Nice looking side, but I think you may be in a minority of one on here, as that side simply has a whole bunch of Central Midfielders in it

We've already spent hours dissecting opposition and our own tactics and there is no way we will see any width with that formation, the ball will go down the middle into a wall of lumps who will hoof it out to their wingers who will again tear us to shreds because of the gaps

I would pick Holmes or Gobern on the left and Thomson on the right for the next match. I would also like to see us sign a right winger with pace for extra competition there.

We now have two good full-backs capable of supporting their winger and getting crosses into the box. In Rasiak and Lambert we have two strikers who will score loads of goals if decent crosses come in. Whilst Rasiak is here we may as well use him.

We need to play with some width and attack teams.

He played better against a poor team but still provided nothing down left side the goals came from the right. Raziak put his 'tap in' on a plate for him. He comes inside far too much and plays in the old inside forward position and gives no width which we need, so as not to waste a £1m forward.

He is becoming a sacred cow to some people but his output doesn't rate a place in the side. He needs to play in the reserves and continue his education.
